  1. This is one of m favorite days of the year along with opening day for baseball, christmas , and vacations.
  2. QUOTE (Sox-35th @ Apr 27, 2017 -> 07:44 AM) Somehow the Bears are going to screw this up at 3. I hope they go with Adams After listening to a few analysts this morning I am now sold on Adams. They believe he is the best "football player" in the draft. Matt Bowen was one of them and I just think the world of that guy.
  3. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Apr 26, 2017 -> 04:14 PM) Like I told my dad, sell regardless of record. I really dont think we have anything to worry about as far as that being an issue. The sox record will come around to bad enough eventually. The offense still has a tendency to not show up for long periods of time. The bullpen will normalize. Remember how great they were for the first month or so last year? Even if they have a decent record I cant see the FO having any delusions about who they are this year.
  4. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 26, 2017 -> 03:58 PM) Just call Jerry directly. He will take care of you. MY GUY!
  5. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Apr 26, 2017 -> 04:00 PM) http://www.fangraphs.com/library/pitching/siera/ It's basically like FIP but it tries to take into account balls in play as well. It's a better future predictor than FIP. Thank u sir.
  6. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Apr 26, 2017 -> 03:53 PM) First in K%, lowest in SIERA and xFIP so far Holy s***, what is a SIERA?
  7. QUOTE (bmags @ Apr 26, 2017 -> 03:37 PM) Feels good to do this to the Royals. Yeah. Its nice.
  8. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 26, 2017 -> 03:20 PM) I have to imagine with the 40 man roster full, they would call up someone already on the 40. My guess is Willys Garcia. So they just arent going to take into any consideration of what I want to see happen... is what you are telling me?
  9. Bring on Delmonico and move Abreu to DH. I love and respect Abreu as much as the next guy but I want to see more of the young guys with potential.
  10. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 26, 2017 -> 03:11 PM) But Steven A Smith is still safe... LMAO. Isnt he one of their most recognizable figures though? People who dont follow sports even know who he is. Not that I am in anyway condoning keeping that knucklehead but a big part of media is hiring personalities and no one can argue that he doesnt have a huge personality. Hes an idiot and has no substance to his ranting but still has a huge personality that is marketable.
  11. QUOTE (Sox-35th @ Apr 26, 2017 -> 12:34 PM) Jayson Stark was let go. That's surprising to say the least. Wow what a day for a network that was once considered the giants of sports coverage. Maybe they still are?
  12. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Apr 26, 2017 -> 09:58 AM) Here's my 7 Round Bears Mock if anyone is interested: https://www.bagadonutssports.com/blog/2017/...ound-mock-draft Every pick seems totally feasible and yet none may happen, good job. I love the NFL draft, I have felt the butterflies of excitement for it since last week.
  13. Werent people talking about Mike and Mike being canned a while back? I know they have still been the air since its been mentioned in here but maybe now is the time.
  14. I am surprised by Lopez's numbers. Everything I have read about him so far has always been really positive as if he is tearing it up down there.
  15. QUOTE (bmags @ Apr 24, 2017 -> 11:30 AM) I guess I just think the Nats getting killed for that trade was overblown, but especially when Eaton is providing exactly what they wanted on a team that will be in a penant race. They moved Turner to his preferred position, and replaced that poor SS production with a high OBP offensive force. I still think that trade was even and exactly what I expected for 5 years of cheap eaton. It was totally over blown and we all kind of knew that at the time. We couldnt possibly know who got the better of that deal or any other deals until it plays out. Some people were acting like it was an absolute steal before anything even played out which was ridiculous.
  16. QUOTE (Jack Parkman @ Apr 24, 2017 -> 11:19 AM) Guys, It is going to be incredibly hard for Q to get his ERA below 4 this season, even if he's typical Q for most of the rest of the year. When you go through your first 4 starts with an ERA approaching 7 it is not easy to recover this season. We might be holding on to him until trade deadline 2018. Just be prepared at this point for him to start 2018 on the Sox. I am not a math guy but I dont believe this is accurate.
  17. Eaton playing well helps but the fact that Lopez and Dunning are crushing it as well when they were the secondary and third pieces to the trade it may still be lopsided. We wont know for some time though. I just think the previous trade with them does play a role in how they approach making a trade for Robertson and it wouldnt be in a good way for the Sox. Is that not fair to think?
  18. I am not sure I would even seriously consider the Nats after what happened publicly on the last trade. I really think they would be gun shy with giving up the talent that Hahn will ask for considering the Eaton trade. Whether that turns out to be a heavily favored trade for the Sox or not has yet to be seen but I still think it hinders the Nats on going all out for Robertson. Whether it was a good trade for them or not they looked really unsure of themselves after it went down which gave the feel like they realized they made a huge mistake. It may have been far from the truth but that sure as hell what it looked like. They dont anything like that to happen again.
  19. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Apr 21, 2017 -> 08:36 AM) I love that fans and media outlets predict the season prior to ANY DRAFT PICKS BEING MADE!! Some are very confident in the picks too.
  20. People keep on repeating that JR doesnt like prospects which is taken totally out of context. He hasn't liked prospects because he was always in win now mode. Most fans loved that about him at the time. He didnt want to wait on prospects and while he had this mindset many of the same people griping now are the ones that backed him then because they wanted to win now during that time too.
  21. QUOTE (ptatc @ Apr 20, 2017 -> 02:14 PM) The issue with this is that you may wind up with bunch of the same type of hitters and have issues like the A's of the early Beane era. You'll have a bunch of guys on base but not much power and no speed so it takes 2 hits and a walk to score. Also no one is stellar on defense anywhere. This plays well throughout the 162 but gets stopped in the playoffs when better pitching doesn't give up that many hits and walks. Teams need the high strikeout/high power guys to score on a single mistake. This is a team that needs to rebuild from the draft just as badly as it needs to make trades that land top prospects back. I am not saying to use this strategy of drafting forever but at least to make sure you stock pile the guys that are safer bets at this point in your rebuild. Hoping on a whim and a prayer with these athletically gifted raw talent guys have not worked for the Sox, like at all.
  22. I would like for them to continue to draft "Collins like" hitters if possible. High OBP guys that have natural offensive ability as opposed to raw talent banking on their high upside as the payoff.
  23. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 20, 2017 -> 12:40 PM) This might be the funniest thing I have ever read on Soxtalk. Yeah if it were real. He is obviously doing a bit right now.
  24. QUOTE (reiks12 @ Apr 20, 2017 -> 12:29 PM) Those were established players in MLB though, Reinsdorf is on record saying he doesn't like prospects Oh well, you got me there. I am SURE JR literally doesnt like prospects at all. Especially now when the team is rebuilding.
  25. I know many love to say that JR is like the cheapest man of all time but look around at so many of the guys we signed and traded for over the years. Were they all on the cheap? I don't think so. For a team that cant get anyone in the stands and doesnt have companies bending over backwards to give the Sox money for advertising, they spend a decent amount of money on talent. IMO Could they spend more? For sure, I think many ML teams could but I never had the sense that the Sox were totally hamstrung for signing someone due to cash available. It seems like they certainly have their limits on what they see as value for guys out there (Cespedes) being one of them but its not like they are the Pirates or Marlins of the world.
