The ten most important players to the future of Sox
BearSox replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
In no order, but in a perfect world, these would be the 10 I try and keep... Paul Konerko (leader, and good teacher for the young-ins) Mark Buehrle (same as PK, but for the pitchers) Josh Fields Ryan Sweeney Gio Gonzalez John Danks Matt Thornton Jon Garland Javier Vazquez Chris Carter -
"Johnny Mac" would beat the sh*t out of ARod. Also, ARod does everything to try and win... to bad he doesn't try and hit to win though (well, besides for April).

QUOTE(caulfield12 @ May 31, 2007 -> 12:38 PM) Possible targets of interest for the White Sox... Mark Teixeira - Boras, too expensive Dunn - too many K's, and he plays just about as bad as Pods in LF, but does have a better arm at least Griffey - we need more youth, and Griffey isn't that Rich Harden - if we could get him just for a few middle of the road prospects, then yeah, I'd love to have him... if he could stay healthy Noah Lowry - Meh. Jose Capellan--Milwaukee (reliever) - sure Jose Castillo--Pitt. - sure.... he's better then Cintron Chris Burke - I still don't think Houston is gonna trade him Willy Mo Pena - platoon partner w/ Sweeney? Baldelli - Injuries, he has really slowed down. Chad Cordero - sure Melvin Mora (OF) - meh.

I love OG as much as anyone else, but I just get the vibe that he'd be happier living in Venezuela and being a stay at home dad with his family, while being a casual baseball fan, rather then traveling all the time and with the stress of coaching. Just my two cents for the day.

I'd feel a lot better about this team if we had a different GM. It seems to me KW will say "We feel we have a really talented team, and with a little more time, we will hit our stride" and then not make 1 move. Or just basically the same crap he said pre 06 trade deadline.

Putting This One Right Where It Belongs -- On Kenny Williams

QUOTE(southsideirish @ May 30, 2007 -> 05:44 PM) How did that work out? I think El Duque is putting up better numbers than McCarthy still. McCarthy is a young stud and El Duque is regressing? Duque was god awful in the late part of the season in 05, and BMac shut down two of the best offenses in baseball. But I'll be honest, I prefered Duque over McCarthy in the postseason because of Duque's past success and experience in the postseason. -

QUOTE(southsideirish @ May 30, 2007 -> 05:27 PM) Are you honestly comparing their young prospects to ours? Plus they seem to trade a lot of them away as well to. where do you see a comparison? well, I could give you one. That shows how bad our developmental and scouting systems are. -

QUOTE(southsideirish @ May 30, 2007 -> 05:21 PM) Who are our young studs that should be playing over the mediocre vets we have? Please point them out to me. PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Did I say we had any? You said which manager wouldn't use Vets over prospects. Like in 05/06 with the Cubs. You have a young stud on one side and a degressing vet on the other. Who do you choose? -

QUOTE(southsideirish @ May 30, 2007 -> 05:19 PM) WHO!?!?!?!?! What manager wants to stick with young players over veterans when given the choice? WHO? A first year manager like a Joe Girardi? He wouldn't want to be in that situation again. That is all you are going to get. A manager looking for his first opportunity. A good veteran manager doesn't want to sit back and help young kids develop. No manager worth anything wants that. You are telling me Coop went to Jenks and Thorton and told them to stop throwing near 100mph and get more control of the pitch? They had good control when they were throwing near 100mph right? But Coop wanted them to have EVEN MORE control of their pitches and throw slower? Yeah, you're right. I don't know what I was thinking. It is all Coop's fault. Hey Bobby Cox and the Braves are horrible. They sucked for the 14 years or whatever it was where the would constantly put in young prospects. -

Another thing no one has really brought up.... The White Sox have a top 5 payroll (probably top 3 actually), and they can't even get passed the .500 mark. Here, http://blog.sportscolumn.com/story/2007/4/9/1367/60158 Look at where the Brewers, Twins, and Indians rank on that list... -

QUOTE(southsideirish @ May 30, 2007 -> 05:13 PM) Stresses, ok, I can see that. I don't think he means stop throwing 100mph if you have control with it. Didn't Big Bobby do that? I don't believe Coop made him stop. There are other things involved in the equation besides the teaching of Coop. If you are that interested in it I think a little more research should be involved before fingers start getting pointed. I'm just sayin, I'm not sayin. You make it seem like Dusty and Ozzie are the only ones like this. If given the choice, any manager would rather have the vets than the young-ins - especially on a talented championship team. EVERY MANAGER! What manager isn't when given the choice? So you say you would play old mediocre "vets" over young studs any day? Especially when you're a team that needs youth desperatly? -

Also, it is looking like 05 was more and more of an aberration. Pre-05, I like many others, was a big anti-Kenny guy. Besides for 05, we have been pretty much mediocre the past 10 so years. Sure there is that year like 2000 mixed in there, but I like many, (who the hell wouldn't?) would like a Dynasty. Not even a big one. 3-5 years of dominance would and 1-2 more titles would do me in more then anything. I'd be set for a long time with that. I don't believe with this current organization with KW at the head will bring that Dynasty any time soon. -

QUOTE(southsideirish @ May 30, 2007 -> 05:09 PM) Absolutely ridiculous. Young players can't tolerate Ozzie? That is a ridiculous excuse. If that is the case then I don't want those certain young players on this team. It is sad that you have to coddle certain young players. I doubt the Sox ever go into full rebuilding mode under KW. It's not that the young players don't like Ozzie, it is because Ozzie is a lot like Dusty and would rather play the "vets" rathar then the young-ins. -
In related news... A-Rod is back to his suck-y ways! What ever happened to all that MVP talk I heard about?

QUOTE(southsideirish @ May 30, 2007 -> 05:05 PM) Couldn't velocity have something to do with the way they are training? Maybe we should look at our trainer and the types of workout he is putting the Sox pitchers on. You really think Cooper has something to do with the reduction of velocity? Why didn't it happen before the 2005 season? Did this happen to the minor league system while he was down there? Maybe, just maybe, there is another reason than Cooper. Just throwing that out there. I think that Coop wants all the pitchers to not throw so hard so they might get more movement? -

The only two people who should be kept on the current coaching staff is Coop and Razor.... And we might need a new GM with a new point of view and who would re-tool the whole farm system coaching and player-wise. -
Yeah, Fields will strike out a lot, but after some development and with players who strike out non-stop like previously mentioned, Fields will hopefully not be top 5.

Adam Russell, Charlie Haeger, Gavin Floyd...
BearSox replied to bigred3535's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Gavin or Charlie, maybe. But I doubt anyone else. -
QUOTE(watchtower41 @ May 30, 2007 -> 11:49 AM) Charles Johnson. What a gun. And he could hit the ball a looooong way...

I would really like a trade for Saltamacchia. The Braves can risk trading him because of McCann, and could getting something good out of him. The Braves right now need some starting pitching help, possibly a little pen help, and maybe another 1B to platoon with Thorman, but not suck like Wilson did. If not him, then try and get the guy from Seattle, Clement.
-
Come back Willie!!! Next year will be the return of 05... Rowand and Willie will continue to dominate the rest of the season, and KW will vastly overpay for both, only to realize that they aren't the players they were last year.

QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ May 29, 2007 -> 11:03 PM) Can we stop with the Brandon Webb comparisons? I've turned into quite a fan of Eggy's, but I think it's silly to compare him to the best sinkerballer in the game right now. I think he'll end up better than the Shawn Hills, Aaron Cooks, and Clay Hensleys of the world, but it's still premature to start mentioning his name with a Cy Young candidate. 2 home runs allowed in his last 200 innings speaks for it self.

With the number Tony Thomas put up... wouldn't he be more of a top 10 pick? I gotta see his career numbers. Also, Thomas looks like the type of athletic player we need at 2B.
