  1. QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 4, 2007 -> 04:25 PM) If he wants to spend that much money on an outfielder for next year, then hold on to Dye the rest of this year, get the high compensation picks, and then go after Ichiro. Bobby Abreu is a bad baseball player. He's lazy, and his power numbers make it look obvious he was a steroid user. Oh, and the last thing we need is another guy who can't his lefty starting pitching. I was reading a scouting report on Abreu the other day about how he looks like he's done. BTW, Jermaine Dye is likely to be the best power hitter, along with Teixeira, that could possibly be available come the trading deadline. You absolutely should expect to get good prospects in return. Beutiful...

  3. QUOTE(southsideirish @ Jun 4, 2007 -> 04:16 PM) What don't you like about KW. The fact that the White Sox have the 6th best record in the major leagues the last 5 years. The fact that he has never had a losing season? Yeah - lets get rid of a winner. We don't need those kind of people. People that want to win all the time suck. Thats not being a winner... thats being mediocre... besides from 05, of course.
  4. QUOTE(southsideirish @ Jun 4, 2007 -> 03:04 PM) Boo Dye and Abreu - Hooray prospects! I really don't understand this logic. Unless of course this prospect is major league ready - but then why would the other team do that deal. Like I and many others have said numerous times, this team needs a rebuilding. I don't see how anyone can realistically think we can compete with the Indians and Tigers, and even the Twins, with this current team and with such little trade bait we have...
  5. QUOTE(iamshack @ Jun 4, 2007 -> 03:02 PM) Fields has not even proven he is ready to play! This isn't like a Ryan Braun situation or a Ryan Howard situation. The kid still has plenty to improve upon in Charlotte and should do so until we have either no Joe Crede on the club anymore, or we get to September call ups. Crede has proven that he sucks... does that count for anything?
  6. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jun 4, 2007 -> 03:00 PM) Something only Sox fans think is possible. Could be... My hope is that right now, Dye goes on a run. By July, he will hopefully be batting .260+ with around 20 homers and 40-50 rbi's. With those type of numbers, we could most certainly get something good out of a contendor who needs hitting.
  7. Dye for Abreu would be a lateral move (at best). We'd be better off trading Dye for a top prospect...
  8. This current team will win nothing. It needs a rebuilding...
  9. QUOTE(southsideirish @ Jun 4, 2007 -> 02:37 PM) Yeah, because 2K5 is completely right on this issue. I don't see a point where you can win this argument at all. On a winning team there is no place for fields right now. If they decide to rebuild or look towards the future later in the year then Fields should get a chance. I think that would be the wrong move though. He really isn't ready. The Sox too often rush guys that look like they could be stars. If you are really a fan of Fields you don't want this to happen to him. Let him take his time and be fully prepared so he can stay here for good when he does make that jump. If this was a winning team, they'd be above .500.... embarrising to see 100+ million dollar preform like garbage...
  10. Looks like I owe you a coke...
  11. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 4, 2007 -> 01:00 PM) So history isn't a good guage of future preformance? What should you judge then? I think closing your eyes and blinding hoping is more assine than studying the history of players and organizations, but that is just me. Yeah yeah, you got the history and such, but no two players are alike. There is no way of saying with 100% confidence, like you are right now, that a player would either incredibly suck, be mediocre, or flourish.
  12. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Jun 4, 2007 -> 12:55 PM) So you'd give up MacDougal for the right to be the only team that gets to bid for Rowand? What about the alternative, trading MacDougal for something of value, or hoping MacDougal can turn it around, then signing Rowan when there is no talent-cost to be paid. In one scenario you have Rowand, but no MacDougal or whatever he brought in return. In the other, you've got Rowand plus MacDougal or whatever he brought in return. For a team that'll be lucky to win 80 games, you don't make a trade hoping to win 82. No MacDougal for Rowand. For some reason, I didn't think of it like this......... good post.
  13. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 4, 2007 -> 12:52 PM) First of all on defense, do not even try to compare Crede to Fields. There are not many in the majors who compare to Joe, especially someone who is considered to be way improved, and still considered average, at best, at 3B. Secondly, as for the hitting, I have historical evidence on my side. First of all go back and look how Sox minor league prospects have hit when they first get to the majors. Go back and look at Crede, Anderson, Sweeney, Rowand etc and look how long it took them to adjust to a respectable level. If you want a more accurate comparison take a Joe Borchard who came from a similar backround of not playing baseball everyday, plus having a huge powerhitters swing with a large number of strikeouts.... How long did it take Borch to make it? You can also look MLB wide at hitters who strikeout in about 1/3rd of their ABs in the minors and tell me how many of them hit for a high average when they make it to the majors. Now how do you know he will hit when he gets here? I don't know if he'll hit in the majors. The only way anyone can tell is if he gets his chance. You can't just go through a list of all minor league prospects and automatically say depending on their numbers whether a player would succeed or not. That is asinine. And, right now, a monkey could probably put up better numbers then Crede.

    Mel Gibson

He should stick with movies like Lethal Weapon
  15. QUOTE(southsideirish @ Jun 4, 2007 -> 12:48 PM) Blah blah blah - dude, every week is the mark or break point of the season. There will still be over 100 games left after this week. THe Sox need to win series against everyone. That is just reality. And you expect that to happen with this team? lmao...
  16. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 4, 2007 -> 09:53 AM) Fields would probably be hitting about .150, striking out 35-40% of the time, and not fielding nearly as well as Joe.And you know this how??? Also, I think you are very much underrating Fields D at 3B. From what I saw last year, he looked like a natural out there. And IMO, it is best to call up players when they are seeing the ball well like Fields. Help add extra confidence.
  17. QUOTE(Jimbo @ Jun 4, 2007 -> 12:39 PM) our bullpen is now our minor league team. what would you have called our old bullpen?
  18. I'd do a MacDougal for Rowand trade, if we can extend Rowands contract for a reasonable price...
  19. Hopefully we can package MacDougal with someone for something good. Even though he has been piss poor this season, Mac still has a live arm... the problem is getting his pitches over constantly. The Phillies would probably be a good candidate to try and land him... QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Jun 4, 2007 -> 10:27 AM) Its just a no-brainer... relief pitcher can get hot and look great then you trade for them and they are s***... as all relievers are basically what? Failed starters? If I'm giving up a package of players... its NOT for a reliever. Mostly. Just look at our pen. Jenks, Thornton, MacDougal, Aardsma, and Massett all started at some point in their professional careers. However, a lot of the top relievers are usually people who specialized in relief pitching. Like Houston Street or now Joe Smith.
  20. Michael Young... don't ask me how, just remember, Michael Young @ 2B.
  21. What do you guys think about Eric Sogard from ASU as a possible 2B prospect? Obviously not in the first round, but he seems like he could be Dustin Pedroia 2.0... Another infield prospect I like is Danny Worth from Pepperdine as well. He isn't the most flashy player, but he is the type of hitter we need. He doesn't have big pop or anything, but he does have very good gap-to-gap power, and can get a lot of doubles and even triples. Plus, he is a stud defensively at SS... He just seems like the type of player the twins would get and just shock everyone.
  22. Wing and Vazquez should be called up... IMO.
  23. QUOTE(Jim Spencer @ Jun 3, 2007 -> 09:39 PM) I'll take plenty . Anyone you want to see? Maybe Sisco in his Knights uniform. Maybe if Aardsma and Mac can be at my house by 2pm, I'll give them a ride down Well, if you could post the pictures, that'd be great!
