  1. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Oct 4, 2010 -> 02:59 PM) Yeah I doubt that would lead to any lawsuits if he deliberately lied about people being in the house and a fire fighter or two died while attempting to find them. This idiot wouldn't pay a measly 75 bucks a year to be eligible for fire protection services, is it really out of the realm of possibility that he wouldn't consider the ramifications of lying about people being trapped in the house to get the fire department out there?
  2. QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Oct 4, 2010 -> 12:51 PM) "I thought they'd come out and put it out, even if you hadn't paid your $75, but I was wrong," said Gene Cranick. While opt-in fire protection is a stupid idea that should never ever be implemented, what kind of idiot says to themselves "hell if I am paying that 75 bucks every year for fire service". My question would be is if there were people trapped in the house would the fire department be obligated to take the call, I would think they would have to. I guess that is one way for Gene to get out of paying the fee, next time his house burns down lie and say you think someone is trapped in the house.
  3. QUOTE (fathom @ Oct 3, 2010 -> 10:22 PM) Collinsworth taking shots at Cutler every chance he gets. He is a slice of s*** and has always been a pompous ass.
  4. The coaching hasn't been stellar, but Vince Lombardi couldn't do anything with this team considering how far their heads are up their asses tonight. I think Lovie and his buddies are normally hideous, but I am having a hard time blaming coaching for a lot of the s*** that has happened tonight.
  5. QUOTE (G&T @ Oct 3, 2010 -> 10:13 PM) That's season over. It will be weeks before he can play again. Not really, Kolb had a concussion in week one and was able to play in week two but was kept on the bench for Vick. It all depends on the severity of the concussion.
  6. QUOTE (IamtheHBOMB @ Oct 3, 2010 -> 10:02 PM) So, what do the Bears do to improve the performance of the O-line during the season? Take them all out back and give em the Old Yeller treatment? I don't see any way to improve line play midseason, we are stuck with this s*** the rest of the year.
  7. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Oct 3, 2010 -> 09:51 PM) Kurt Warner had a competant line and Marshal Faulk and a series of awesome receivers. Collingsworth of course still needs to blame something on Cutler. So basically we should have cutler just throwing the ball out of bounds all game long. Thats some inovative offense. BLOCK SOMEONE. Yea, I love the whining that Cutler isn't playing as well as Warner, a 2 time MVP and HOF QB. The talent level on the Rams was a wee bit different then the s*** the Bears are running out there these days.
  8. This is so ridiculous you can't even get mad about it..... I'd like to hit Collinsworth in the face with a hammer, he is one obnoxious son of a b****.
  9. QUOTE (lostfan @ Aug 30, 2010 -> 02:26 PM) I suppose, but when I think "projects" I think Robert Taylor, Stateway Gardens, Ida B. Wells, etc. all those high rise buildings in Bronzeville that are all gone now. Those were all close to the stadium but still on the other side of the 35th overpass and more or less separated for all practical purposes. Bronzeville is barely even recognizable from what it used to be back then. It really is remarkable what has become of Bronzeville in the past 6 or 7 years. I started at IIT in the '99, and when I graduated a lot of Stateway Gardens was already vacant and had begun to be torn down. You never thought living in the area in 2001 that there would eventually be a Starbucks you could walk to.
  10. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 30, 2010 -> 02:18 PM) He may be referring to the senior home that is currently just outside of right field of the stadium. Some people think of them as "projects". Or, if you go about 4 more blocks south along Wentworth, you do in fact hit some row-homes that are indeed "projects". This. Even now the neighborhood around Comiskey has a bum rap, imagine what the reputation was like 20+ years ago when the park was being planned. Projects is probably the wrong word, but I don't think the Sox wanted their fans having to wander into the neighborhood to get into and leave the park.
  11. I have read that it was done in order to not have all of the fans exiting the park and walking right into the projects, which is what was there for the most part in the late 80's early 90s when the park was being planned. Part of the decision certainly may have been a "nostalgia" issue, but I think fan safety was the other consideration.
  12. QUOTE (hogan873 @ Apr 3, 2010 -> 11:10 AM) I'm wearing pants! Don't you hate pants?
  13. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Jan 1, 2010 -> 06:54 PM) Ryan is up there in the league in goals, Parise is #1 in +/-, obviously we know what Kane can do, Kessel is a stud, Rafalski is going to be the Wings' next Lidstrom, and Pavelski is pretty damn good. Clearly, it's nowhere near as talented as Russia's roster or Canada's roster, but I think it'll be good enough to compete with both of those countries. Rafalski the Wings next Lidstrom? He can't hold Lidstrom's jock and he is only three years younger than him......

  15. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 13, 2009 -> 10:20 PM) I'll bet most of those unihabited islands glow in the dark. Johnston Atoll was used to store and then destroy a good portion of our chemical weapons stockpile. Its not what I would call a hot vacation spot.
  16. Grade A jagbag, good riddance
  17. QUOTE (flavum @ Mar 4, 2009 -> 11:03 AM) Alexei is under contract thru 2011, but I think he'd be arb eligible after the 2011 and 2012 seasons if they don't extend him before then. Someone smarter than me probably knows for sure, but they may not be able to offer him arbitration after his contract is up. This ends up being part of the contract with a lot of international players, so my guess would be we would have to look at offering Ramirez a long term deal come 2011 if we wanted to keep him.
  18. Getting rid of all no-bid contracting will not save any money. Anyone who has been involved in government contract work can attest to that. I know no-bids get a bad rap because of the Iraq thing, but the fact is there are situations where bids are not necessary, only because certain specialized projects have only a few firms that are qualified to provide the service. The requirement to freeze and review any project that goes over 50% of the original estimate is pretty funny too. I have yet to work on a federal project that doesn't go over budget, and a good portion of that is due to the incompetence or the indecisiveness of the government agencies.
  19. QUOTE (MurcieOne @ Mar 3, 2009 -> 12:57 PM) Really? I'm by no means an Orton supporter, but I'd rather have Kyle than Sage Rosenfels. You're definitely right about Orton though definitely has a lot to prove. He's not going to be an above average QB unless he improves the accuracy on his throws and gets a better feel for moving around in the pocket (which ultimately led to the undoing of my beloved). Orton 4 years younger -- had no receivers -- didn't throw many picks last year (12 in 465 attempts). Rosenfels is 30, he did throw with 66% accuracy, but also threw ten picks in 142 attempts. You can't ignore the fact that Rosenfels had Slaton, the best receiver in the league, and a secondary receiver better than any of our receivers. I'd rather have Sage Rosenfels than Tavaris Jackson, but only as a short term option. If Denver had to choose between Rosenfels and Orton... I would be a little shocked if they chose Rosenfels. Agreed. Orton is hardly an all-pro in waiting, in fact I think his ceiling is "very average quarterback", but he is way better than Sage Rosenfels. Rosenfels sucks, he was a complete turnover machine this year and is already in his 30's, he isn't getting any better. I would go so far as to say despite how bad Tarvaris Jackson is I would rather have him then Rosenfels also. Jackson has a turnover problem too but at least he is young and can move in the pocket. Lucky for the Bears that the Vikings seem content to let AP become the next Barry Sanders instead of bringing in a real QB to help them win.
  20. QUOTE (SouthsideDon48 @ Feb 19, 2009 -> 01:05 PM) Why not have a speedy slap hitter as a DH? That's exactly what this team needs, someone that can slap the ball through the infield gaps for a base hit. The DH position should be utilized similar to how the Los Angeles Angels used it last year with their crowded outfield. I'd also much rather have a player that can actually still play on the field as a DH instead of a guy who gets sore playing 1B in interleague games like Thome does. I think a player like Ty Wigginton, a player that can play multiple positions, would be a perfect DH player. Unless that slap hitter is Ichiro, he has no business playing DH for an AL team that is trying to compete. You know why the Angels used the DH like that, its because they have no power hitters. If we offered Thome up to the Angels right now they would take him in heartbeat and plug him in at DH. Fast contact hitters are fine, but that is a player that should be playing CF or second base for you, not DH. The whole purpose of the DH is to allow a guy in your lineup that may be a poor fielder but a fantastic hitter, which is what Thome is at this point in his career. If you want to bust up the basecloggers, Konerko is the first guy on the chopping block. He is even slower than Thome, not as good of a hitter, and disappears for weeks or months at a time.
  21. QUOTE (SouthsideDon48 @ Feb 19, 2009 -> 05:19 AM) Good OBP or not, I'd rather not have a player who can no longer play a position on the field wasting a spot on the 25-man roster as DH. Thome's nothing more than a glorified pinch-hitter, if you think about it. LOL, glorified pinch hitter, are you serious? I would like to see all the pinch hitters in the league that can hit 34 home runs and have a .362 OBP playing full time. You can't have speedy slap hitters as your DH, Thome is the least of this team's problems.
  22. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Feb 11, 2009 -> 11:42 AM) Yeah, I'd be good with it being just first timers, or once every 10 years as you said. Just to keep the speculators away from it. The Senate version applied to all home buyers, but the catch was you had to live there for a certain amount of time (I believe 3 years but don't quote me on that) and if you sold before that period ended you would have to pay the $15,000 back. There was ample protection against speculators here and for some reason they got rid of it, which I think was a pretty stupid idea. Housing is a huge drag on the economy right now and anything to get that moving again would be a huge help IMO. I don't know if they have gone back to just the $7500 credit that expires June 30th or what, but as of this afternoon the $15,000 was out.
  23. QUOTE (lostfan @ Feb 10, 2009 -> 03:02 PM) This is true, but there's a fine line there, because I'm almost certain he's thinking about how Clinton tried to push his own ideas through Congress early in his administration and it didn't work. At the end of the day Capitol Hill is running the show, too. I agree he probably worries about what happened with Clinton, but the pendulum is swinging too far back the other way, particularly when you are talking about a once in a generation spending/stimulus/whatever we are calling it bill. If I am Obama, I bank more on the fact that I have a very high approval rating and won a nice victory, than defer to a Congressional majority that quite frankly has shown themselves to be totally inept the past 2 years and has dismal approval ratings. I know it takes two to tango but on something that is supposedly this important, Obama should have been steering this ship from the get-go instead of throwing out this ridiculous "4 million jobs" number and letting these numbskulls implement it how they please.
  24. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Feb 10, 2009 -> 01:15 PM) He met with GOP members of the House and Senate on more than one occasion to get feedback and buy in. The bill had additional tax cuts added to appease them. The house version passed with a grand total of ZERO Republican votes. Obama lost his cool for 1 second and reminded people that he won the election. Feedback and buy in? So what, its fairly obvious to me that Obama had little to no hand in writing this bill. This was written behind closed doors in Pelosi's office by her and her lackeys, some bi-partisanship. I don't care if its bi-partisan, frankly I don't blame the Democrats for saying piss off we won, we got the majority, we don't need you. Obama needs to stop with this bi-parisanship nonsense though. Having people over for tea and cake does not mean they are given access to the forming of a bill. Obama's mistake here is letting the two assclowns in Congress run wild with this thing, its making him look bad because he has to defend things I frankly don't think he even wants, and its giving Republicans a lot of ammunition to beat this thing up.
  25. QUOTE (Jeremy @ Feb 5, 2009 -> 06:51 PM) I think that in that quote Kenny comes across as smug and self-righteous; he frequently comes across that way and it's a big part of the reason I don't care for the man. LOL, so who is the humble, soft spoken GM that you would prefer that has a similar track record to Kenny? Who cares if the guy is smug, you're not eating dinner with him, you are hoping he makes the best moves for your baseball team.
