Femtocells ~ the future of phones?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Femtocell Basically your cell phone links to your own "mini cell tower" while at home and uses the internet to link to your cell phone service provider. Early plans have made these calls free, or at least not part of your cell packaged minutes. When you leave your house, they start accumulating as always. Better reception, cheaper calls. There are some hurdles left, see the wiki, but overall pretty cool stuff.

QUOTE(knightni @ Feb 17, 2008 -> 10:38 PM) The add did prompt me to start the thread, yes. But I believe that was in the ad as well, or perhaps the trailer.

Chalk one up for Wikipedia.....
It seems they would have the technology to not display unless someone clicked on the image. That might be a compromise.

Presidential Body Double
It seems to far fetched with dozens of people needing to know to pull it off. But I would not be shocked, surprised, but not shocked.
-
Presidential Body Double
It has been the plot line in literature and movies. Is there a stand in for the President?

What I did this weekend

DEM Primaries/Candidates thread
QUOTE(YASNY @ Feb 16, 2008 -> 10:12 PM) Thanks for straightening me out. I keep forgetting. In the good old days we had the Soviet Union also giving aid around the world and we needed to stop that because it would spread communism. So we helped all sorts of nations. Now that we do not have that threat, we can build a wall and let them die! It's fun to be a conservative.

DEM Primaries/Candidates thread
Obama couldn't make it down here so he's sending Ted Kennedy on Wednesday. I have an appointment at 2, I'm hoping to be done in time to see him. Hillary is also suppose to be in the neighborhood. Great article in my local paper on how Texas allocates delegates. http://www.themonitor.com/articles/delegat...democratic.html The supers down here seem to be in line with Hillary. So basically the statewide total isn't used to determine delegates won, it's district by district.

What I did this weekend
I just spent a great four hours hiking one of my favorite places anywhere http://www.worldbirdingcenter.org/sites/mission/ . Some of the greatest birding anywhere in North America. Orioles, Green Jays, Chachalacas, Road Runners, and so many more I can never identify. About three years ago they closed down the RV campground inside the state park, closed the roads, upgraded the facilities, and a whole bunch more making it one of the top sites in the World Birding Centers. We took the trail down to the river and watched as the birds cruised low to the water catching insect. There were perhaps close to 100 Winter Texans riding bikes and hiking the trails. There is a youth camp that roughly parallels the park where my Scout Troop has camped about a dozen times. It has always been one of our favorite places. Sad to know it will basically be shut down forever soon.

Pizza, have you tried every style
QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Feb 17, 2008 -> 10:40 AM) I thought the show was awesome until the end when the taste-testers showed up. I thought the history behind the brands in each city was really interesting, especially all the different naming rights issues and stolen crust recipes. But once those firefighters sat down, the show certainly did suck. What they needed to do was find some completely neutral participants and test it that way. I dont know, maybe some guys in Idaho or Washington or somewhere that those types of pizza arent readily available Or normal New Yorkers. Not a bunch of childish guys. I've enjoyed New York style. In fact, the best pie down here is a NY style. Actually just a little bit thicker, but stil you can fold it over. But I'll pass over it in a second for a Lou's deep dish.

Economic Stimulus Check
I have to, and don't be offended, y'all (especially Kap) I found this BMW dealership that will let me use my stimulus check as a down payment on any one of their cars I'll only be able to drive it for a few weeks, but then I just have to call the media and I'll be out of the contract Where else can you rent a sweet ride for $300?

Pizza, have you tried every style
QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Feb 17, 2008 -> 08:02 AM) "Pizza Wars - Chicago vs New York" was on the travel channel last week, and at the end of the show they lined up firefighters from a New York firehouse and a CHicago firehouse to eat Pizza from the other side. The New Yorkers were just plain ignorant, most of them wouldnt even try the pizza because they couldnt bend it in half and shove it down their throats. Just the idea of using a fork and a knife was offensive to them. At least all of the Chicago firefighters tried the pizza. That show sucked. I don't care if you have crappy taste and don't like something, but those guys were the stereotypical New York assholes. The Chicago guys showed the class that is Chicago.

On-line versus real life
QUOTE(kapkomet @ Feb 16, 2008 -> 08:45 PM) Oh now you went and done it. I have to go find a crooked BMW dealer that will sell me my first Beamer for $100K with no money down and take you for a ride when you come back up here. But you can afford it, you have to find someone to sell you a $500,000 car, and then I can go kick his ass Then we head to Mexico and find the %#()$ tattoo artist who gave me the Israel4Ever Tat

School shooting and God, related?
QUOTE(kapkomet @ Feb 16, 2008 -> 08:37 PM) I guess I missed that part. The point was made earlier by YAS that he and I come at things from the left and right but agree on a lot of stuff. I was merely pointing out that we can view Jesus as a GOP, REP, or, as PA pointed out, a Libertarian. I seriously did not mean to offend you or mock your earlier comments.

School shooting and God, related?
QUOTE(kapkomet @ Feb 16, 2008 -> 04:19 PM) Are you going to go through every thread on soxtalk and mock this s***? Let it the hell go already. Sorry. I meant no offense, I was joking with YAS.

Pizza, have you tried every style

On-line versus real life
QUOTE(DrunkBomber @ Feb 16, 2008 -> 05:11 PM) I think a lot of people use the forums as a tool to portray themselves a certain way with no consequences. Ive never met anyone from any of these forums before so its hard to gage how some people are in real life but theres that occasional ass hat that you know is full of s*** In person is totally different. I can't wait to get back up to Dallas to see Kap. I'll bet crooked BMW salespeople and stupid consumers will never be mentioned

Nick Masset reports 25 pounds lighter and stronger
QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Feb 16, 2008 -> 01:33 PM) One difference, Giambi got lightyear, Masset worked off his fat and put on muscle (which would not be an indicator of cycling off). I for one am happy. The guy has a great build for a pitcher and pretty good stuff (not as great as we were expecting, but it is solid). QUOTE(Kalapse @ Feb 16, 2008 -> 01:37 PM) There's a difference between tubby to toned and ripped to natural. If Masset had dropped 20-40 pounds of muscle (Javy Lopez, Ivan Rodriguez, etc.) it'd be a different story. Exactly
