QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Nov 15, 2007 -> 03:46 PM) I think it's not discussed because it's obvious Hunter/Rowand/Jones in CF makes the 2008 Sox better than the 2007 Sox. It's not really a discussion that needs debate. Giving one of those players a 7 year deal to play CF is another story, one that is good for 200+ posts..... But for many, the most important difference between the three is money.

Maybe he stays the token REP so the Washington Post can point to him and claim to be balanced.

I really do not want to beat this into the ground, but when we spend 90% of our time worrying about how a player will fit into the payroll, and 10% how they fit on the field, it seems out of whack. We really do not know how much they can spend. The payroll always feels fair, but who knows. I also think it kills the casual fans and kids from becoming avid fans. But hey, debate on. It takes armchair GMing to greater heights, and that's good.

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Nov 15, 2007 -> 12:17 PM) While a fair question, it's not that simple, and you know it. I know you don't like hearing about the $ and how much a player is making/worth, but it's part of the game, now more than ever. You can ask the question, "Which guy makes us better" but there are a few different ways to look at it. -This team has payroll restrictions, simple as that. While Hunter could provide better numbers than Rowand, at what cost is he providing them at? Because the Sox have Hunter instead of Rowand, do the Sox have to trade away another expensive piece to pay for the production Hunter is providing? -What about in 2012? 2013? You don't want to think about it now, but there have been numerous threads about how Jose and his contract are basically unmovable right now, and how he is tying up 10 million that can be used elsewhere. Can you imagine the threads about Hunter and his 15+ million that he is making when he is 36? Is that going to make the team better? It's just not that simple of a question. Great reply, I just like to remind people where the team's media coverage really matters. On the back page of the newspaper, not the business section. If you knew the team had higher profits in 2007 than 2005 would you be ?
  6. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Nov 15, 2007 -> 01:25 PM) Well if they miss out on the large mix, this is what you will get at soxfest. Hawk at Soxfest "You know who I think is going to have a superstar breakout year, Jerry Owens. I am so glad that Kenny was so wise not to sign a guy to a large crazy contract. I mean I love Aaron Rowand and Torii Hunter is a superstar, but something about speed. You know speed doesnt slump. Stats don't tell the whole story of a players worth. Dont tell me that you hit it, tell me when you hit it. Remember the magical season in 05, what got us there. That would be Scott Podsednik and small ball. I love Ozzieball" I can hear it so well

  12. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Nov 15, 2007 -> 11:41 AM) If you're that much bettter than the other team, it's a no win situation. If you take a knee, it's like taking pity on the other team and it comes across as arrogant. If you continue to score, it's seen as running up the score. The bigger issue for the better team, especially at this point in the season, is balancing playing your starters, keeping them sharp, and potentially running up the score or resting your starters at the risk of hurting your team's chances in the next round.

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Nov 15, 2007 -> 11:55 AM) The question is going to be is Rowand worth 12 million to the Sox? Or is Hunter worth 15 million to the Sox? Those are all questions Kenny will answer for us, shortly. Is the question ever which guy will make us a better team?
  14. Thank you. Great analysis
  15. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Nov 13, 2007 -> 07:19 AM) When was the last time the Sox were outwardly looking to spend huge dollars on a FA? Its been a while. It will be more interesting what the under the radar moves are... Bingo! I have total faith that Hunter will be running around center field at the Cell next season. I just think it is a very low chance it will be in a White Sox uniform.
  16. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Nov 15, 2007 -> 10:02 AM) Especially when you consider Guillianis abortion stance, and the fact that Romney has flipped flopped on this issue. And looking at the polls is what made me question how important it has become in the GOP.
  17. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 15, 2007 -> 08:55 AM) Another random thread from our friend Tex Add him to the list of folks a few cards short of full decks Friends of Tex from the lunatic fringes It's Jim and he to accept the challenges. 18. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 15, 2007 -> 08:53 AM) And it only highlights the endorsement further for Thompson anyway. Makes the story linger. Is Pro-Life that important of an endorsement anymore?
  19. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Nov 15, 2007 -> 12:34 AM) Dan Patrick was discussing running up the score the other day after the Patriots scored like 50+ points. What's more embarassing, a team scoring 50+ points on you, or a team taking a knee? I think the team taking the knee. I could not imagine having a kid all alone, heading towards the end zone and then stops and takes a knee. I am guessing, based on this team's successes through the years, this is not the first time this team has faced blowing teams out by huge margins and he must be doing something right, the other coaches do not seem to complain.
