Mexican government = hypocrites.
QUOTE(samclemens @ May 24, 2006 -> 07:49 PM) shoulda, woulda, coulda. lets face facts, fox is just another banana republic corrupt asshole. we all know that he wants an open border because if all mexicans had to actually work in mexico he would actually have to do his job and try to fix the horrid economy there, instead of line his pockets at the expense of our border. I believe you are confusing Fox with the regime he replaced.

Were there any greats who wore #23 for the Bears or Hawks?
Van Dorp was involved in a very memorable hockey fight against the North Stars. As the teams were skating in the warm ups, he took a swing at a Star's player and the everyone joined in. The refs had not entered the rink and they stood aside and watched. IIRC Hawks coach Keenan also stood and watched. The game was delayed almost 20 minutes from starting, and it took to close to midnight to complete the 3 periods.

Damn, I like the guy. I really am sad whenever any of our leaders let us down so I hope this is all smoke and bulls***.

Ozzie: Mack going to start more games in CF
BA will be out there in late innings and hopefully will snag an AB or two. This takes some pressure off and allows him to develop at his own pace. Maybe he is being pushed too soon.

SportsNation Biggest Blunders from Neyer
draft blunders are a dime a dozen in all sports and especially in baseball are meaningless. The stadium thought is excellent, and often overlooked. Look at all themoney that has been tossed into it later.

ACLU gets prayer banned at a HS graduation ceremony.......
QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ May 24, 2006 -> 08:52 AM) When has 100 kids spontaneously getting together to pray been banned? I can google it. There have been long standing traditions, like at some Texas football games that have been blocked, then when a couple kids have started, they have been silenced. Stuff like that. Better question, why is it ok to get everyone together to cheer the football team during an assembly, but not ok if a prayer is offered? I have never seen a survey where the majority where offended or wanted the prayer banned. It is usually one or a handfull at most. To me, the freedom of speech of the majority is being curtailed.

ACLU gets prayer banned at a HS graduation ceremony.......
QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ May 24, 2006 -> 01:57 AM) has anyone ever stopped you from bowing your head and praying? If a kid wants to say grace before eating his lunch in a public school, no one is stopping him or her. Nor would they ever try. And if 100 kids want to get together and pray at lunch, it does get banned. What is wrong with someone sitting quietly while the majority in attendance at an event offer grace or any prayer? I respect the beliefs of everyone, including those that do not belief in a higher power. I have sat quietly during Hindu ceremonies, and probably every other major religion. If the entire school has to go to a rally for the basketball team, why can't the graduation class say a prayer?

Teeth installed in Senate Immigration bill
Nuke, I am surprised you agree with this proposal, which places us in agreement. It is only checking new hires, and only after a system is funded and in place. That is the perfect solution, IMHO. The competing bill would have employers checking every employee.

Mexican government = hypocrites.
QUOTE(YASNY @ May 24, 2006 -> 04:28 AM) If it's okay for Mexico to set tough immigration standards based on their needs, it shouldn't be any of his damn business what the immigration standards of the US are. It does effect his country's citizens, he should be concerned, he should speak out, but he shouldn't be on the side of illegal immigration. He should be on the side of respecting both side's needs, and respecting the laws of that nation.

ACLU gets prayer banned at a HS graduation ceremony.......
Here's a liberal Democrat that also prays and feels my rights are violated when I can't. I believe I have freedom of speech also.

Mexican government = hypocrites.
Even more shocking is that Mexico and the US has different needs. Who could imagine both countries doing what is best for themselves. Shocking!

Bush to order National Guard to border
QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ May 19, 2006 -> 10:41 AM) Attorney General Alberto Gonzalez' parents may have been illegal aliens. This came out during an interview on CNN so nobody actually saw it. Such is a very common story. Second generation kids do very well. There parents, in many cases, push them to get educated and make soemething of themselves.

Stupid Impulse Buy, Maybe
I was listening to Pat Green Carry On, great song and thinking I'm heading up to hill country, maybe I need a little of that old top down. So I decide to just look (what harm is there in looking) at the Sebring convertible. So I jump in the Sebring, like the car, plus my son convinces me that with him driving and me spending the summer on the Island, we'd be better off with another car. (and who can defy logic like that?) Here's where the stupid part comes in. I decided to not get the convertible. Talk to y'all in a week unless they have access for us to use. The dealer should be here in a few minutes.

Fence Approved
No fence for my stretch of the border. National Guard to build boat ramp, roads. I'm liking this spending bill more and more. One provision has our local business community concerned.

Bush to order National Guard to border
QUOTE(Cknolls @ May 19, 2006 -> 09:56 AM) I think to be fair we all should start posting in Spanish, so as not offend any illiterates Tex. Illiterate means that can't read, so posting in Spanish would not help them. Actually that was a board option, and we do wish to welcome all Sox fans. That does bring up an interesting sidebar. A local town down here started conducting all it's government meetings in Spanish. Everyone in the town speaks Spanish and it was easier for them. If there was a need for a non spanish speaking person to attend, they would switch to English. Local government making an obvious decision to help all their citizens, or something that should be illlegal?

Forum Upgrade
Now that we've had a couple weeks to use it, I really like how the upgrade will automatically combine posts if you reply to a couple posts in a row. And the poll system seems improved. Quoting and linking is a little akward still, but I'm certain that will become routine. Thank you Higher Powers.

Catch-All Anything Thread
QUOTE(Queen Prawn @ May 19, 2006 -> 06:35 AM) It sucks going to a 28 year-old's wake. I think half of all 20-30 year old residants of Mt Greenwood were there. What tears you up worse is when you go up to say your prayers at the casket and you notice a note his son wrote to him saying he missed him. That was only the second time I saw Brian tear up. Death sucks ass (even if he is a funny character on Family Guy - sorry needed some humor in here). Yep, give me some shriveled up octogenarian anytime. I was looking over my living will and final arrangements and realize I still have a provision that a comedian be hired to work the wake and Animal House be played. I'm thinking I need to change the movie choice.

For Dems only.
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ May 18, 2006 -> 04:45 PM) That's North Carolina Democrat Drew Saunders, trying to argue that a $200 disclosure requirement for non-family-gifts to Congresspeople was too low. What a stupid statement :headshake I do think $200 is too low. That will create way too much auditing. I'd be comfortable with something around $500. If we elected someone that could be swayed for $250, we're already in trouble,

Bush to order National Guard to border
QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ May 18, 2006 -> 11:49 PM) You know what I think is ironic is that you're always up in arms about Americans giving up their rights to prosecute the war on terror but you are pretty darn quick to give away our sovreignty. I have always supported having allies on our side. This is no different. Soveignty? Are we that worried about a bunch of Mexican illiterates sneaking across to become busboys? This is political grandstanding. The issue has been there for 50 years. Now the parties have an election year battle. They can spend our tax dollars on a nice civil service project that will create jobs, they can act tough against a 3rd world country that won't fight back like Iraq. This is more about an election that could take away a lot of power from GOPers and less about soveignty. So now we move some troops to the border, then Mexico has to move some troops to the border and we have those nice images of two country's military staring at each other across a no man's zone. Of course we would never invade Mexico to fight the war on illegals and protect America under seige, unlike Grenada, Somalia, Iraq, Pananama . . . QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ May 19, 2006 -> 07:02 AM) Another factor is that it is getting to be summer down there... winter is definatley the season to trapse accross the desert if you have the time. I'm not certain how they are computing those crossing, if they also include legal crossing, it drops because of the retireees that head back up north during the hot summer. There is also spikes at Spring Break and Holy Week. There are also more manual labor jobs in the spring, so the push is to get across during Feb/Mar and make your way further north.

QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ May 18, 2006 -> 05:26 PM) Who gives a flying f*** what the Mexicans think?!?!?! Who gives a f*** what an ally thinks? Too bad they don't have more oil, then we'd be kissing his ass.
