Beat the Streak(White Sox version)
Texsox replied to Timoperezrulez's topic in PTC/Contest/Fantasy Board
The record keeping seems monumental, have you thought about that? -
QUOTE(YASNY @ Mar 30, 2006 -> 06:16 AM) Oh, you pay. You always pay ... sooner or later. Hush, let him dream. We all learned that the hard way . . . When I use to do a lot of business entertaining, and found myself in interpretive dance clubs, we would play count the bruises and/or count the tats. It was also fun to engage them in conversation, so what do you think of the UN resolution to ban uranium enrichment in Iran?

And if no one will take the jobs the company should fold. I don't understand why Americans won't spend 9 months a year following the crops. Living out of their cars, or in rooms that the farms supply. It is an adventure, you get to see the country, and at minimum wage or even a bit more, it's easy money. Piece work is great if you have any sort of work ethic. Or the farms could employ these people year round. Findsome busy work for them while the crops are growing. The poultry processing plants only have problems getting workers because they stopped employing union butchers. Get those union jobs back in there, we'll gladly pay more for the chicken if we know it was cut by a union butcher instead of an illegal. Americans will take these jobs at $25 - $30 per hour instead of $6-$8 per hour. And we'll pay the higher prices at the super market. These 12,000,000 workers only have these jobs because employers think we won't pay more for stuff. Once we eliminate them, wages will rise and that is great for the economy. We won't have to worry about minimum wages, the competition for workers will be so great that even WalMart will have to pay over the poverty level. Of course this also shows how a free economy is a joke. We want all sorts of artificial controls. 12,000,000 people have jobs because the economy needed them. We don't want some free market economy with supply and demand on the labor side, we want controls. Those immigrants who came through Ellis Island took jobs away from Americans. They were willing to work for less, and their English wasn't too good either. Again, it's funny but a free enterprise has retailers and everybody else advertising and conducting business in Spanish so they can make more money. Businesses have a choice, they can work hard to attract new business by speaking Italian, French, Spanish, Korean, Chinese, or whatever neighborhood they are in, or not. Down here not speaking English isn't a problem at all. There will always be a bi-lingual clerk to take their money. BTW, Mexican Nationals spent over $50,000,000 in Hidalgo County on their American Express cards in 2005. LaPlaza Mall is one of the busiest malls in America and it is largly on the backs of Mexican Nationals who come here to shop and play. Supply and demand. Businesses already face steep fines for hiring illegals. They do it out of necessity.

QUOTE(farmteam @ Mar 29, 2006 -> 05:02 PM) The drinking age is 18 in Iowa? Oh right...Iowa... Speaking of Iowa and drinking, what is the age of consent for a cow?

Are y'all taking the stance we should stop all immigration? Anyone wish to defend our present policy of allowing any Cuban who reaches the beach to stay? How does that fit into the equation? We are a nation of immigrants. We all owe our citizenship to a relative who immigrated.

QUOTE(Cknolls @ Mar 29, 2006 -> 02:59 PM) 16.60 billion as of 2004. Not chump change. Against an over trillion dollar deficit, it is chump change. Would you care to compare that to foreign aid dollars or the interest we pay countries like China on our debt? And where did you get that number and what does it represent? How can twelve million people create 16 billion for the Mexican government?

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 29, 2006 -> 11:48 AM) Pizza Hut sells alcohol? Maybe not, I was just trying to think of a place that was nationwide. The principle is the same, just because a place serves alcohol, should everyone have a right to be drunk? Just asking. I get uneasy when we tell the police to not enforce a law. I'd rather get rid of the law.

QUOTE(Cknolls @ Mar 29, 2006 -> 11:52 AM) Why can't we tax the money these illegals repatriate to Mexico? Seems like it would help defray the costs of the social services they swallow. It would also deprive the Mexican gov't from the second largest source of income in their country. Do you have a source as to the second largest source of income to the Mexican gov't? BTW, there is a large number of Americans living in Mexico. They found their Social Security checks go a lot farther in Mexico. Thre are several towns that are almost 100% American. We should also stop Americans from travelling overseas and spending money there. Plenty of nice spots in the US. We have to deprive these countries of our dollars.

QUOTE(bmags @ Mar 29, 2006 -> 09:10 AM) yes. also can't you drink in your cars in texas? Not in a long time. Texas was the last to enact an open container law, but it has been over ten years. I think we all took it for granted you could be drunk in bars, after all they are in the business to sell alcohol. But would everyone agree that you should have the right to be drunk anywhere alcohol is sold? Bars that have a 21 age minimum seem OK. But what about Pizza Hut? Should it be ok to be drunk and sitting at the next table from a family? Should a guy be allowed to be falling down drunk sitting in the seat next to your daughter at a Sox game? I actually think it would be better to have laws against the behavior, not just being drunk. If you are drunk and sit quietly staring at the wall, who cares? But if you aren't drunk but trying to tell me Kerry Woods is a better pitcher than Beurhle, that should be illegal.

QUOTE(mac9001 @ Mar 28, 2006 -> 10:30 PM) From what i saw in a 10 min blurb on MSNBC after the six year worker visa is over the person will be presented with an opportunity for permanent residence if they can meet certain requirements. The only two i remember is pay a $1000 fine and learn English, but there were more. That was a counter proposal to Bush's plan. I've also seen the years dropped to 3 from 6. I like the longer time. Immigrants do take jobs in all sectors. The software companies begged congress for more H1B Visas to bring in more software developers because there wasn't enough Americans. At the lower end of things, we could not feed ourselves without illegals in the agriculture industry. Making them legal is one step to assuring ourselves a future with food. I'm more worried about our dependence on overseas food than our dependance on overseas oil.

However, if there is a law against being drunk in public, and it applies to places that serve alchohol, like bars, restaurants, and sporting events, how can we criticize police for enforcing the law? Shouldn't the response be; we need to change the laws to allow being drunk in bars?

QUOTE(sayitaintso @ Mar 28, 2006 -> 10:00 PM) That's sweet that he believed you, but i have to ask, do you even look anything like bartman? I don't think he could really see me through the all you can drink beer goggles. But, no, I don't look anything like Bartman.

As Evil mentioned, check around on the insurance. I saved a bundle once I found someone who was familar with pressure washing. What can happed is the agent or whomever is processing the quote has to place their business in a category. If they aren't familar with the service, they will always guess at the higher rate to save their asses. One of the biggest headaches and potential problems, believe it or not, is removing the stickers from the high tech windows. Damage some of the coatings and you bought some expensive windows. We do windows as a sidebusiness and I've heard some serious horror stories from the professionals. I agree with Kap, LLCs have been the most common down here for small business. A good accountant to help them set up their books and a periodic review is important. Having a plan, it doesn't have to be elaborate is also important. Understanding the hours and scheduling is also important. The only person I know doing this kind of work quit because of the hours, not the amount, but the demands from his customers. If the closing is 3pm on Tuesday, and they don't get finished with their punch list until 5 pm MOnday, they expected someone to be in there that night. He would up working 7 days a week to meet demands and when he refused, they found someone else.

Well, I'm playing catch up, but no surprise, y'all know what a big Dubya supporter I am, and I applaud his guest worker proposal. I wish there was a mechanism for citizenship after the six year program, but it's a giant step in the right direction.

Next thing you know they will be arresting drunks inside bars in Texas

I can't wait until he gets back to Chicago and tells all his buddies he met Steve Bartman during Spring Break. Not to worry, if they track the rumour down, I'll be Tex from Soxtalk Note to SI. Everyone here knows I am not Steve Bartman

Let's see, we still have drive thru liquor stores (Ice Houses) Don't even have to get out of the car. Ron White "I got a DUI, it was a b.s. arrest. They were targeting every car driving on that sidewalk. That's profiling and that's wrong. You can still buy singles and most stores down here have paper bags sized to cover the can perfectly. They will have a big ol' tub of ice and the beer at the checkout. I lost a brother to a drunk driver. I wish they had been at softball city in Hainsville that night cracking down.

I almost forgot what the internet is. I have over 1,000 emails sitting in my in box, but my first dash was here. A three week spring break on South Padre Island almost killed me. Funniest moment with a Chicago twist. I am in my favorite out of the way, bay side, tavern. Literally bar, sand, surf. Open air. Usually just the locals. But not this year, the owner hooked up with a tour company and had all you can drink from 12-2 and 5-7 for breakers on their package. 9:00 PM, and two BoSox fans, a Cards fan, a decent Yankme fan, and assorted drunks are making fun of a Chicago guy wearing a Cub cap. This guy is getting nailed from all sides for a long while then pleads, is there anyone from Chicago here? I am! Cool. help me out here. f*** You, ScRubs suck! Later, feeling bad, I offer a fellow Chicagoan a beer (.75 draft, lets not get carried away) For a Sox fan, you are an ok guy, what's your name? Steve Bartman No s***! What they hell are you doing here? I had to move, I'm close to Mexico in case I have to hide, some Cub fans are still pissed, I live in a trailer now.

A new spin on the "myth" of Abramoffs Democrats

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Mar 2, 2006 -> 06:31 AM) How many greasy wheels are there in local government? I see it all the time. A sherriff paid off here, a local nutjob there, the racist (see, white) Dallas City Council, etc. The fact of the matter is to get elected you almost have to do it in a dishonest means anymore. That's the truth. Not many greasy wheels. Are you suggesting that 25% are dishonest? 2.5%? .25%? ow many dishonest people do you think there are in government? -
QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Mar 1, 2006 -> 11:07 PM) Considering all we lost, it's not that surprising. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ However, replacing prospects in the cupboard is a nice piece of hardware . . .
