  1. QUOTE(YASNY @ Apr 12, 2006 -> 08:52 AM) That was a tongue-in-cheek post. get your tongue out of there . . .
  2. I always slid feet first with a hook or a popup. It was the way my first "real coach" taught and later when I had a chance I tried head first and didn't like it at all.
  3. While it sometimes becomes maddening, there is some value in Ozzie holding everyone in the roster responsible at any time.
  4. Hitting has become way to valued in the Golden Glove. I think it has become almost 70/30 in favor or hitting. If I was picking the bext thrid baseman in baseball, I'd take A-Rod everytime. But I'd love to platoon them, and take Crede on D and let Alex hit for him. Take a little off the top of A-Rod hitting and Crede fielding and viola! you have Chavez.

  7. The Wonders of God A boy was sitting on a park bench with one hand resting on an open Bible. He was loudly exclaiming his praise to God. "Hallelujah! Hallelujah! God is great!" he yelled without worrying whether anyone heard him or not. Along came a man who had recently completed some studies at a local university. Feeling himself very enlightened in the ways of truth and very eager to show this enlightenment, he asked the boy about the source of his joy. The boy replied with a bright laugh, "Don't you have any idea what God is able to do? I just read that God opened up the waves of the Red Sea and led the whole nation of Israel right through the middle."The enlightened man laughed lightly, sat down next to the boy, and began to try to open his eyes to the "realities" behind the miracles of the Bible. "That can all be very easily explained. Modern scholarship has shown that the Red Sea in that area was only 10-inches deep at that time. It was no problem for the Israelites to wade across." The boy was stumped. His eyes wandered from the man back to the Bible lying open in his lap. The man, content that he had enlightened a poor, naive young person to the finer points of scientific insight, turned to go. Scarcely had he taken two steps when the boy began to rejoice and praise louder than before. The man turned to ask the reason for this resumed jubilation. "Wow!" Exclaimed the boy happily, "God is greater than I thought! Not only did He lead the whole nation of Israel through the Red Sea, He topped it off by drowning the whole Egyptian army in 10 inches of water!"

    QUOTE(Soxy @ Apr 12, 2006 -> 06:19 AM) First spot I find Prince Charles or Queen Elizabeth II QEII My one dream was to be the best man at Prince Charles and Diana's wedding. I thought how cool would it be, with the world watching, to end the toast with "So my good friends, let's drink up Chuck and Di" Bad Jokes or Bad Sex
  9. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Apr 11, 2006 -> 02:38 PM) 5. Astros World Series (I loved Bags and Biggio growing up....if we can't get the ring, I'd like them to) So I wasn't the only one with a oh s***, why the Astros feeling. They are the easiest team for me to follow, along with the Rangers. I get to more Astros games than anything. Watched Clemens last season get a no decision when he gave up three hits in 8 innings. Bags and Biggio are class acts all the way.

    QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ Apr 11, 2006 -> 11:28 PM) Regular. Decaf is like beer without alcohol in it. Are the clouds moving, or is the earth rotating? Don't just merely choose one for the hell of it. Give me a serious answer FOR TEH LOVE OF GOD. Because clouds move at differing speeds and on my earth, the rotation is constant, I must say the clouds move. However, there is also some effect from the earth's rotation. circle the parking lot to get close or take the first spot you find?

  14. I'm not certain what conclusions to draw here but Israel has about the most secure borders and the most terrorism. We have about the least secure and also little terrorism. I'm not convinced there is a cause and effect relationship, but I do believe no amount of securing our border will insulate us from terrorism.
  15. QUOTE(flyfishdude @ Apr 11, 2006 -> 03:52 PM) I am curious if anyone knows what hotel the White Sox will be staying at in Seattle this year. I am a diehard Chisox fan from Montana. My son and I have been to Seattle numerous times to watch the Sox. We didn't make it last year, however the year before we were able to stay at the same hotel, the Madison Renaissance. I was able to meet some fans from Chicago that made the trip and they knew the Sox were going to be staying there. I was just wondering if anyone knew where the Sox will stay this year? Any help would be appreciated!!! Welcome to Soxtalk
  16. QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Apr 11, 2006 -> 03:50 PM) There is a great irony that today we sit at a fork in the road, where ex-immigrants are trying to make it harder for future immigrants. No matter how high and mighty I may become, I will never forget that if it were not for the leniant immigration policies of the 19th and 20th century, my family may never have had the chance to come here. So give us your tired, your hungry, your poor, because it is the American way to accept them. Let them take jobs, let them compete, because that is American. It is only those who are lazy, those who are drains on society that fear the immigrants. Because can an immigrant that can not speak my language, that has not gone to high school, college, etc, really compete for my job? The answer is no, and the reality is not one illegal immigrant has ever taken a job that I have wanted. They take jobs from those who are no longer deserving, because they will work harder and for less. Its time to stop crying and asking for a bigger govt to come and protect us.

  18. If we decide to pay billions of dollars to increase our border security, where will the money come from? Another massive tax cut? Soon to have all this money, we'll have to skip paying taxes totally for a year. What problem are we actually trying to solve with this increased expense? We are chasing the boogey man. Read the first post in this thread. They are allowing trucks with no inspection drive right in. And all these posts later, we are trying to link immigration to security.

  22. In the end, it will be her story versus the team's story and who is more believable. Lacking DNA evidence, it will be a difficult case to win. Her line of work, I am sorry to say, will not help her with the jury. Those nice, well groomed, well bred college boys, versus a woman who strips for a living. The jury will have to ask themselves whose story is more believable. Just to be clear, sex workers, strippers, prostitutes, I believe, can be raped. No means no, no matter the circumstances. However, in this particular case, absent of any scientific evidence, I would rather be the attorney for the accused.
  23. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 11, 2006 -> 12:57 PM) While SS's article did contain some snark, it is highly relevant, and makes some excellent points. I stand by SS2K5 on this one. No matter your feelings on increasing visas or allowing a migrant/guest worker program (which I am in favor of), there is just no justification for illegal entry into another country. Nothing positive comes of it. You are correct. This has been a political hot potato that neither party wants to debate. On one hand the majority of these workers are making a contribution to our society, and the other, the growth of Spanish speaking immigrants has been met with resentment in many areas. Being viewed as pro-Mexican immigration is a quick trip out of office. So the politicians have to figure out a way to keep these people in the workforce, yet be seen as anti-illegal immigration. Replaceing these trained workers, with legal, but untrained, is not going to help the economy or our nation.
  24. QUOTE(Controlled Chaos @ Apr 11, 2006 -> 12:46 PM) I don't have a strategy, I just post. As for the 'f***ing' and 'bulls***', what can I say...you bring out the best in me. Just to make you feel better though, I understood your point perfectly while using those words. If I think someone is intelligent and articulate I like to ask questions and understand how they reached an opinion. If it seems like an informed opinion, I enjoy studying it and seeing what I can learn from it. I find there is little to be learned from uninformed opinions based on poor information. I am, by nature, a very inquistive person, as you noticed. I am much more interested in other people's opinions.
