QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Sep 20, 2005 -> 02:28 PM) Between you and Kap, first one to Michigan City gets the spare bedroom Does the room come with Sox tix? My parents just left here a couple days ago. I offered to let them stay and experience a hurricane. I'm thinking of booking a room in Corpus for the weekend. Could be a great show.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Sep 20, 2005 -> 02:16 PM) That one had you guys at the dead center of the track, this time you guys are on the far southern end, but the storm track has been moved about 3 hours south. Whereever it lands, I just hope for the best, because it is blowing up quick. The pressure is dropping, the eye is tightening, and the storm is intensifying, all at an alarming rate. And this is still with a few days until projected landfall. The bullseye seems to be on the Port Lavacca/Victoria Texas area, but if I were anywhere between Port Arthur and South Padre Island, I would be scared out of my mind right now. I'm more worried about tonight's game I always have plenty of survival type stuff on hand because of the camping I do. My water filter is ready to go, plenty of propane and white gas for my stoves, some dehydrated meals, and three white sox fan phone numbers for updates. Hey Kap, remember my cell number if I'm calling, and don't side button me like you usually do :-)
  5. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Sep 20, 2005 -> 12:56 PM) Hurricane Vince sounds appropriate. Right. Hurricane Tammy? That's a joke. If I'm going to die in a hurricane make it sound tough. Buehla was the last really huge one to hit here. Rita isn't bad for a female name. And there is the problem with these names. What we need are names like Hurricane Rip Your Frickin' Head Off. People hear Tammy is coming! Tammy is coming! and take their chances. They hear Rip Your Frickin' Head is coming! and they get out of Dodge. I am preparing a class action law suit on behalf of everyone in New Orleans who didn't flee because Katrina was not a tough enough sounding name.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Sep 20, 2005 -> 01:47 PM) This thing is going to be huge because it's heading into the same waters that took Katrina from a category 1 to a category 5. The good news is that with time, it seems like most of the models have shown it starting to drift south, towards the southern part of Texas, and away from the areas that are already reeling. Hopefully no low pressure areas will appear and change that. That's good news, I can hardly contain my excitement The one that was suppose to hit us, passed south; any bets the one that's suppose to miss us is going to hit us?
  7. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Sep 20, 2005 -> 11:19 AM) Do they skip "U"? wino had to remind me that they don't do XYZ, since we never have to worry about getting down that far. I may have to amend my earlier prediction that we would not get into the Greek alphabet. Stay safe, everybody. Yep, they skipped U2. I guess they couldn't tell if Bono was a girl's or boy's name But then how would they retire a "name" if they use the Greek alphabet?

    Hurricane Rita.

I guess my weekend plans might be in jeopardy
  9. We're running out of hurricane names for 2005. And of the names left, doesn't hurricane Stan and Hurricane Vince sound bad ass? Getting wiped out by Vince sounds tougher than getting wiped out by Tammy, the first hurricane with giant eye makeup. If I couldn't laugh, I would go insane.
  10. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Sep 20, 2005 -> 10:17 AM) That is exactly my point. One guy equals ratings, dispite Farrakhan holding sway over a large segment of population. Just because the guy doesn't have a cable network, doesn't mean he doesn't hold influence. There are many, many people who follow and believe him, just like Robertson. Heck the way the media portrays it the good minister basically speaks for the black race, while Robertson just speaks for the right wing wackos. I don't think you can compare the two in credibility. I believe Robertson has far more credibiity in main steam America. Which is why his remarks are far more newsworthy and shocking. Farrakhan's remarks were not shocking and I think most people reacted like Nuke and found it funny. There is a huge difference in Bush saying something and some psycho guy muttering it on a corner and the media should treat them differently. Same with this. That psycho on the corner may have a great deal of influence with the other psychos on the corner. I guess we should also define large segment of the population. How large do you think Farrakhan has? How do you define sway?

    Hurricane Rita.

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Sep 20, 2005 -> 09:09 AM) The models now have it going a LITTLE further south and then curving up toward just west of Dallas/Fort Worth. If this happens, we get the heaviest of what's left - which means Tropical Storm and Tornadoes. They keep telling us to expect tropical storm strength winds Saturday night and Sunday morning. Our local guys are talking about a hit down here as well. It seems as if the entire Texas coastline is probable. The last one stayed south, if that is repeated, and the weather patterns are similar with the high pressure ridge, I could be in for some wind and rain. Either way, Kap, it looks like you or me this time.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Sep 20, 2005 -> 09:16 AM) I just hope she doesn't tow your heart away... I just wonder about those standing by a parking meter.
  13. QUOTE(ChiSoxyGirl @ Sep 19, 2005 -> 10:24 PM) Don't you love it when someone says exactly the right thing at exactly the right time? Ahhhhhhhhhh. You are so right . . .
  14. QUOTE(Queen Prawn @ Sep 19, 2005 -> 08:44 PM) Emergency vets suck ass. I just tried calling several of them and not one of them see hamsters. I told them what was wrong and they didn't even offer the meds for it (wet tail is a common ailment, but can and often is deadly). She says to call a local vet tomorrow morning. He isn't going to see tomorrow morning - why can't they give him something to put him to sleep?! Oh, that's right he won't make them enough money. Where is that f you finger when you need one?! Editted to add: Apparently the other hamsters are not letting him die alone. The two closest to him have moved their nests to the corners closest to Stinky's cage. Thanks for letting me get this out here. I love my little Stinky. Brian said that is always made him laugh because he knew when I was coming home - within five minutes of me walking through the door Stinky would run downstairs to his little door to wait for me and would stand on his hind legs after I closed the door behind me to get my attention lol. I would put him in his ball and instead of meandering where he pleased, he would follow me around and if I was in the shower he would repeatedly roll into the door until I opened it. I hope a miracle happens, but I think he might be beyond miracles at this point. Sorry to hear about Stinky. If you need someone to roll into the door until you open it, while your taking a shower, I'm certain there are many volunteers here for you. BTW, it is harder to get into Vet school than Medical school. for Stinky and the family.

    Hurricane Katrina

QUOTE(YASNY @ Sep 17, 2005 -> 04:13 AM) Well, just call it a guess, but I believe we'll be needing some oil in a decade. But I could be wrong. And for the oil companies wanting to drill in other areas, wtf is wrong with that? We need oil, they are in business to supply it to us. When 25% of our domestic oil comes from one geographic area, and it gets hammered with a natural disater, it seems diversity in location just might be a good idea. There are economic concerns as well. If this is $100 a barrel oil based on the logistics of getting it to market, will it be viable? There are some places that it just doesn't make sense to drill. Easy example, 1 mile from the water intake for Chicago, where a spill would result in the city having no clean water. So the oil for profit companies do need to be held in check for the public's greater good.

    Is this OK?

QUOTE(winodj @ Sep 18, 2005 -> 07:43 PM) I really enjoyed my time in Boy Scouts. I wish I could still be a part of the organization as an adult and help give back for all that it gave me as a kid. And DJ, that is a source of some inner conflict for me that you couldn't openly and honestly be a volunteer. However, if you are ever in South Texas, there is a Troop that would welcome you with open arms. It's a terrible quandary. I respect the rights of private groups to set membership standards from their group, but don't agree with the standards this organization's Charter Partners (mostly Churches) has set. BTW, I spent the weekend on South Padre Island with out new Venture Crew. 6 boys and 3 girls. We had a blast. Kayaking, snorkeling, swimming, cooking. Monte Cristo sandwiches for lunch, peel and eat shrimp boil for appetizers, fish florentine with rice and snow pea pods for dinner and a chocolate upside down cake for dessert. My boys really know how to cook, I've taught them well. For breakfast, while I was kayaking with some dolphins, the kids set up a pancake buffet, blueberries, chocolate chip, nuts, and whipping cream. Meanwhile, and the parents thank me for being a leader
  18. b****ing about the season at this point, with the mountain of good to me is like complaining about a blemish on . I have spent too much time as a Sox fan in seasons that are over by now, to not want to enjoy this one. Usually this time of year we would be wondering about the September call ups. Anyone want to post when the last time was that the Sox were in the playoffs twice in the same decade? So I respect the fans who wish to wring their hands and concentrate and argue the 100 ways this team could fold and miss the playoffs. Those that want to assign blame before it happens. It seems like mental fan bulimia to me. Eat this great season and then puke it up before you even know what dessert will be? IF we miss the playoffs, I'll be puking with you, but until then, I'm as happy as can be. I still have a lot of faith in this team, holes and all. Come October some of y'all may be happy saying I told you so. But the time you spent being happy will be far less than the time I've spent happy and excited about this season.
  19. QUOTE(knightni @ Sep 16, 2005 -> 12:28 PM) It's football season. For a long time I didn't look at baseball until the Bulls season ended and put them away as soon as the Bears started. Nice that recently, the season has stretched to fill gaps in other non competing teams.
  20. Oops, sweet tea, and no you cannot recreate it by adding lots of sugar to your ice tea. The sugar has to be added when hot so it creates a supersaturated liquid.
  21. QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Sep 16, 2005 -> 10:45 AM) Plus I imagine down there you can't spit without hitting a BBQ shack. That would be my un-doing. Though I have my own pijt and everything...and I'm getting pretty handy with it, so I expect by next year Dom Deluise will be looking trim and fit. Not as many as further north. We have a couple good ones and Rudy's, the best chain. Plus, I'm usually not too bad at a BBQ joint. 1/2 chicken, rice, beans, onion, pickle, jalapenos, and a sweat tea suits me just fine. I also have cut way back on the chicken fried steak smothered in white gravy.
  22. It appears as if mlb.tv will be carrying the game.
  23. QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Sep 15, 2005 -> 05:07 PM) Terry Bevington is still available. He handles pitching staffs equally well. I see Bevington a couple times a year. He's managing in the Central League. Nice guy. Let's fire the GM and Manager for having The best record in the AL on September 16th Rookie of the Year candidate 90+ wins Even if the team fails to make the playoffs, they will have a top 4 or 5 record in the league. If instead, the team was 20 games out and had a great September, would you be chanting keep him? This is a great season by any standard. I hate to say it, but I wish we had a little more Cub fan in all of us. The kind that is willing to see positive through the fog.
  24. Actually Texas was a big part of the weight gain. You can stop pretty much anywhere and get a breakfast taco. I love an egg, cheese, bean, and potato. I imagine there is about 800-1,000 calories in one. Mexican food in general is laden with fats. And I love creamy stuff. Then there is the being on the road, eating fast food everyday. I figure before I reached home for dinner, most days I was at 2,500 - 3,000 calories. Then I love to cook. I was walking while playing at the club, but my regular group went a way and I was in a golf cart again. So I was adding calories again. Little changes I could make stick have made the difference. Cutting back on some foods and walking a bit more. Skipping meals when I am not hungry in favor of a small snack later. Without the snack I would over eat the next meal.
