Nascar and #3 Fans
I have a very nice NASCAR Dale Earnhardt commemorative knife, in a decorative tin, that I will trade for a White Sox item. If anyone is interested, PM me to work out a trade. The knife has never been used.

Jason & Co...
QUOTE(kapkomet @ Aug 25, 2005 -> 04:50 PM) Sorry - did you even know what I meant about the server load? Anything less then 3.00 is meaning the server is functioning well. It's usally anywhere between 0.50 and 0.75 when we have 250 people on here. It's the database that's the problem, pure and simple. I can probably shut the site down this weekend and rebuild the database, that might help some. Personally, I'd dump anything more than 1 year old. Trust me, I've read most of the posts, and wrote way too many of them, there isn't anything there worth savings. or Let Jas rebuild the database and solve it that way.

QUOTE(Brian @ Aug 25, 2005 -> 01:11 PM) The worst part is the first minute, than it goes numb and you hardly feel anything. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Aug 25, 2005 -> 01:13 PM) I think that is the 'birds and bees' talk mothers used to give their dughters in the 1950s. Taking one for England . . .

adjusting to higher gas prices
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Aug 25, 2005 -> 10:24 AM) So now that I know who has the big trucks... Who is coming to help me move here soon? No problem, let me know when you're moving and who to send the fuel bill to. I'm guessing 3400 miles round trip, 10 mpg, $900 should about cover it.

Beef, Dogs, or Pizza?
QUOTE(Middle Buffalo @ Aug 25, 2005 -> 02:17 PM) Pizza, hot dogs, beef. Who cares? I'd commit Harry Caray for a White Castle's slider. I found the Mexican equivalent that is also great after a number of beers. Tacos Nortenos. Basically they sit on greasy corn tortillas, add bistek (chopped steak), cilantro, and onions. Some places add white cheese. Grease, beef, onions. Same as a slider. The corn tortillas are small, usually 2 bites if drinking, 3 if not. Added bonus, my favorite place also has a liquor license.

Bobby Jenks
I think Ozzie is trying to bring him along and keep his head in the game. Jenks' physical talents are immense, but his head hasn't always been screwed on right. Ozzie is doing the right thing in picking a choosing the spots and last night with the pressure of really needing the win, wasn't it.

Of All Gas Consumers, Bush May Be Biggest
QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Aug 25, 2005 -> 09:29 AM) Yep, no big surprise here, and the least of my concerns as far as the President goes. Now, the 330+ days spent on vacation at his ranch during his time in office, and the fact that he's the only working American I know of that can be on vacation 20% of the time, that I take some issue with. Just because he's at the ranch doesn't mean he isn't working. Besides, based on what he has done, do you really want him working more? And replace Bush with Clinton, Bush, Reagan, Carter, Ford, etc. and the article is probably still true.

QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Aug 25, 2005 -> 09:47 AM) Wow, no respect. The guy was actually in the room. :headshake GOOD LUCK B-MAC! Better than talking behind his back. Hey, Crede*, nice season, you are so clutch at the plate. *for the record, I think Joe is a great infielder and I hope he patrols 3rd for many a season.

Superstitious? Dump the Broom Smiley?
QUOTE(Y2HH @ Aug 25, 2005 -> 09:33 AM) And speaking of what you said, there is so much of that out there, the very VERY bad coaching and improper fundamentals. I started playing for Ron Schmidt as an 10 yr old. First day after tryouts he explained that he knew we would be making physical errors, but we were going to think like major league players and mental errors would not be tolerated. That sounded sooooo cool. We were probably the best coached by a volunteer team in the league. Outfielders, hands on knees, weight balanced, where are you going to throw a fly? Where are you going to throw a ground ball? Be ready, no hesitation. Infielders, gloves brushing the ground, same thing, where does the ball go when you get it? So many lessons he taught. And talk about respecting the baseball traditions. Amazingly, he was a die hard Cub fan. We wore blue pin stripes and he had the bus painted white with blue pin stripes.

Superstitious? Dump the Broom Smiley?
QUOTE(Y2HH @ Aug 25, 2005 -> 08:58 AM) Touche back at ya. Of course, this isn't at the major league level, but the second I get on base, I can tell whether it will be easy to steal on a pitcher or not. What was your pop time to 2nd, ever get it measured? No. What helped me was a very quick release which made up for less than spectacular arm strength. I also had a great coach for 4 seasons playing traveling ball who knew the mental side and the nuances of the game better than anybody. Being ready and knowing in your mind what you will do before the situation presented itself was key. I remember tryouts for a different traveling team and the coaches wanted to see our throws to second. I was up on my toes, instead of back low, so I could be ready for the throw to second. Another kid yelled, hey, he's cheating, he's almost standing. One of the other coaches came over and told me to get low. I looked at him and said, this is how a catcher is suppose to be ready when a runner is on first or second. The guy had no clue. I almost walked off that team a few times that season. The worse was when he asked me to switch hit lefty with a guy on third. I was confused but went along with it. On the next pitch he had the runner try and steal home. Of course the kid was out by 20 feet. I paused and then went down the third base line and screamed Idiot. You want the batter to conceal the runner. I'm the best bunter on the team, at least suicide steal in that situation, and if you really want to try and steal home, look up delayed steal in the dictionary. I sat the next two games

I agree that Shill isn't always correct, I just am tired of guys protecting their PR image and not speaking up. Raffy has lost credibility, no doubt about that.

QUOTE(Y2HH @ Aug 25, 2005 -> 07:58 AM) Things like this are for Cub fans. QUOTE(Y2HH @ Aug 25, 2005 -> 08:42 AM) I'm guilty of this, too...when running off the field, I will NOT step on the foul line, and if I strike out, I will not use the same bat the next at bat even if struck out looking. See, I guess there is a little Cub fan in all of us
