Superstitious? Dump the Broom Smiley?
When I was catching, if the last out was a strike out, I would always toss the ball to the other side of the mound from the opposing team's dugout. After warmups, I would always one hop the ball into second, daring the other team to try and run on me.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Aug 25, 2005 -> 08:32 AM) Exactly. If you can't laugh at yourself, who can you laugh at? Have some fun with it. We could laugh at Cub fans

Ace's being Ace's
October will depend on everything coming together at the same time. Looking a some cosmic biorhythm type event, we could have hitting but no pitching in a month.

Batboy Suspended
QUOTE(Steff @ Aug 25, 2005 -> 08:02 AM) Do you think it can be done with water..? Yes. I was looking at the relative size of a gallon on milk, and the pile of hotdogs that are eaten during the Coney Island contest, and thinking it must be the milk.

Curt.. STFU.
I saw the interview, it was kind of a follow up to Frank Robinson's comments about purging the record book of steroid stats. I thought Shill made a good point, and applauded his willingness to make a stand. If more players came out against steroids, maybe baseball wouldn't have had such an issue. Too many players shun difficult subjects and speak in cliches that say nothing.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Aug 25, 2005 -> 07:53 AM) That and tell Baj he is getting screwed!!! Gee if you have to tell him, you may need to click on one of those spam emails you've been receiving regarding herbal supplements.

adjusting to higher gas prices
QUOTE(mreye @ Aug 25, 2005 -> 07:59 AM) I may be wrong, but I think you're talking about me. I bought my vehicle because I got a damned good price. I don't only use it for "the once a year family vacation" either. We go on a lot of short extended weekend type trips. I can't begin to count the numerous things I've hauled in my Blazer that would have been impossible in a 4 door sedan. No, it's not in our country's best interest to be dependent on foreign oil. That's why I support drilling in ANWAR. A question...do you think our dependence on items made of plastic keeps the demand for oil high? Wasn't anyone in particular. Actually the dependency on foreign food has me more troubled. One report I read showed some serious hunger problems if we suddenly were cut off from foreign raised and produced food. We have the capacity to feed ourselves but have decided in favor of year round availability and cheaper prices.

Batboy Suspended
QUOTE(SHAFTR @ Aug 25, 2005 -> 02:25 AM) This is a dumb suspension. What happened to the batboy has happened to rookies for decades and I'm sure batboys as well. I looked it up and it's not possible to drink a gallon of milk that fast without throwing up. The gallon of milk is more than your stomach can hold, plus the fact that dairy is extremely slow to digest. Thank you, I was wondering if being milk made it more difficult.

From strictly a baseball fan's point of view
It was an exciting game.

Superstitious? Dump the Broom Smiley?
I just realized the team's slump cold be traced to the broom smiley? Perhaps we need to put that one away for a while? Baseball always seemed to be the one sport where superstitions are rampant. Don't mention a no-no, don't step on the foul line, rally caps, etc. Any other baseball superstitions y'all like?

QUOTE(Steff @ Aug 25, 2005 -> 07:37 AM) McDowell would blow Brandon's way and he'd fall over. Are you saying Jack has bad breath?

Mullet March
Y'all think this is worse than Elvis Night? Don't kid yourself, if it put asses in the seats Veeck would have in a heartbeat. In fact, I could see him sporting a fake mullet. Tacky ballpark promotions are a staple of baseball. If we can't laugh at ourselves, we'd all be in trouble. Let me break out in song . . . Damn, I just realized the beach season is over in another month or two. I need to head west and sit on the beach with some BB&B* and contemplate the meaning of life. *Beer, Bikinis, and Buffet

QUOTE(Middle Buffalo @ Aug 25, 2005 -> 12:32 AM) Here's what a fight between Jack McDowell and BMac would look like. Sorry, being in Texas and all, it looked a lot like a Nolan Ryan v. Robin Ventura fight. Damn, now I really want to make the 1000 mile round trip to Dallas. Hey Kap, got a guest room? I think a Bmac start is just what the team needs.

Beef, Dogs, or Pizza?
QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Aug 24, 2005 -> 11:53 PM) I'm stumped........ when speaking of Italian beef, what is giardiniera,? a pickled, hot pepper concoction and essential to a proper Chicago style beef. Link

Beef, Dogs, or Pizza?
QUOTE(Steff @ Aug 24, 2005 -> 10:00 PM) Useless. Run 4 miles a day instead. I've been sitting there watching that video and eating hot dogs, no ketchup, for months and so far my ass just keeps getting bigger.

Beef, Dogs, or Pizza?
QUOTE(Steff @ Aug 24, 2005 -> 09:55 PM) No, no, no... you must indicate you are making a joke so the tight asses around here don't have to jump on and off their horses so much. :rolly I'd rather be a tight ass than have a big ass I kid because I care* ketchup on a hot dog eater *Used by permission.

Beef, Dogs, or Pizza?
QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Aug 24, 2005 -> 06:39 PM) If I may, allow me to add another turn to this discussion... What other areas of the country are known for specific foods? Off the top of my head, I can think of a few. Texas - chili Cincinnati - chili (I'm jonesing for some Skyline right now!) New York - pizza and Italian (maybe that is too broad) Philadelphia - cheesesteaks Memphis and Birmingham - BBQ others that fit specifically and aren't too broad? I'd have to put BBQ at the top of the Texas list, ahead of Chili. We Texans love our BBQ. Give us some pit smoked brisket, rice, beans, a couple slices of white bread, onion, pickle slices, jalapenos, and a sweet tea and man o man, we're one happy state. Most places will have you order at the counter and take it back to long picnic tables where you get to meet some old friends you never met before. The sauce is on the side, the meat is usually cooked over mesquite, but some places will do oak. I've done the Texas BBQ Trail

Batboy Suspended
Back in the good old days during the 70's, eating one of everything on the McDonald's Menu was the challenge. I finally managed once. Talk about a terrible feeling for a couple days. With all the stuff they have now, it would be impossible.
