  1. QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Jun 13, 2005 -> 11:09 PM) There weren't enough steryotypes in that post... LOL
  2. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Jun 14, 2005 -> 07:18 AM) What is most troubling is that at the same time the government is making it easier for big busines to default on their promises in bankruptcy scenarios, they are making it much harder for individuals to seek bankruptcy protection. This will be an incredibly painful irony for all the individuals whose retirement savings are wiped out by irresponsible big businesses that are given a free pass when the restrictions are tightened up and the individuals can't file for protection. Why the country is not up in arms about this double standard I can't even fathom. I guess individuals just need to make bigger contributions to politcial campaigns.
  3. Hey Kip, you missed this one
  4. The problem we have here is a lack of public transportation to get to the grocery store. Most recipients have to walk to the food stores and suffer with poor choices, inflated prices, etc. Imagine doing all your grocery shopping at a White Hen (7-11, Circle K, Stop & Rob). And as Evil so nicely put it, there are also some poor consumer choices. They never learned how to stretch a food budget. Most of these people are not on public aid because NASA already had all the rocket scientists they needed. When the government proposed shopping classes back in the 1980s they were voted down as too costly. Many of the recipients cannot do the math to see if 4 for $1 is better than .29 each. They didn't know they could just buy a couple bananas, not the whole bunch. Things like that. Although it is easier to just think these people are trying to rip you off and are the smartest people on the block living in luxury. A few years back a study I read opened my eyes to a couple things. Based just on numbers, not percentages of the population, the largest group on public aid was rural, white, single mothers under the age of 25. Think Appalachian backwoods. Before someone states the obvious, there are more white females than any other category in our population. So it stands to reason they would make up the largest group on public aid.
  5. QUOTE(aboz56 @ Jun 13, 2005 -> 10:37 PM) I think I may be the only one who is glad Mike is free. Favorite Album Eva No WinoDJ thought he was innocent as well.
  6. I've become a Spurs fan since moving down here. I always appreciate class in athletes and teams and the Spurs seem to have the market cornered in the NBA. I believe David Robinson was one of the truly great gentleman athletes who actually believed he should be a role model and was. Tim Duncan learned a lot at Robinson's side and has continued that tradition. Being a Bulls fan through the years, it's so very easy to hate the Pistons, so this is an easy final as far as picking a team. Evil vs. Good.
  7. I think part of my issue was we were seated in the center field mezz area. It created a boxy, rectangular, feel. The giant glass wall and train was also a bit unnerving as well. I love a more classic diamond like Cominsky Park. I was shocked when they announced tha attendance at 34,925. The place didn't look that crowded. I also could have used an armrest and a knowledgeable usher.
  8. Obviously they were not Texans, then y'all would have heard, hold my beer, I'm taking this bubba to 41,000 feet.
  9. Now put the dumb ass parents that drove victims to Neverland Ranch on trial. ANy parent after his that allows their child to anytime, supervised, unsupervised, it doesn't matter, with Jackson deserves to be locked up.
  10. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Jun 13, 2005 -> 04:30 PM) Pigeons = domesticated/semi-domesticated rock doves, Columbia livia. [/bio geek commentary] I started to research that. I'm wondering what she was going to do with them if he was going to prison. Tie a file to their wing and teach them to find Michael?
  11. QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Jun 13, 2005 -> 01:21 PM) I don't like the idea, it will only make matters worse. If you think PHT has a lot of fluff posts now, just wait until every newbie must post hundreds of times before starting a thread about the only question he's really interested in. Plus, I don't like the idea of a class system based on post counts, but that's jmo. And I agree w/ ss2k5 -- basic questions are not the problem. It's 2 posts, question and answer. (And maybe a thank you, depending...) That's not the problem. (Actually, I think it makes the board better, more useful.) It's the 20 20-page threads about how much the team sucks after every loss, the flame wars reenacted over and over, and the trade threads rambling endlessly about how we're going to acquire any given player in the league w/o one scintilla of rumor (I'm not even asking for a credible one). And more, just some examples. Anything tied to post counts contributes to spamming threads. Most of the issues, IMNSHO, are interpersonal. We have posters, who cannot take it outside, so they attack each other in every thread, in every forum. I have learned a lot from people ere who took the time to disagee with me *and* explain why they felt that way. Far better than to tell me to go screw myself.
  12. QUOTE(ChiSoxyGirl @ Jun 13, 2005 -> 12:24 PM) Or a hold on while I throw up. Cliches are soooooo not erotic. I'd toss on a comedy album, maybe vintage Robin Williams, because I am The American Giggle-O™
  13. Two signs that some people are morons Lady #1. Releasing a dove for each not guilty verdict :puke Lady #2. Sign: On Behalf of Mankind -- We're Sorry :headshake Does anyone get conficted in California?

    Anti-Spam

I switched anti-virus programs and just now realized the version of Norton I bought doesn't have an anti-spam filter. What's everyone using? I get most of my mail through gmail and don't have a problem with that, it's my Outlook 2002 email that is the problem right now.
  15. Interesting. The dialog worked so well by saying Zeppelin 4, but Physical Graffiti adds an interesting twist.
  16. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 13, 2005 -> 11:28 AM) I know the OKC families got nothing. I don't know about the Pentagon. IIRC they questioned it when the 9/11 Fund was established.
  17. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Jun 13, 2005 -> 11:16 AM) "And five, now this is the most important, Rat. When it comes down to making out, whenever possible, put on side one of Led Zeppelin IV..." And of course, in the very next scene they cut to, the Zeppelin song they are playing in the car is.... Kashmir, off of #%#@*&*!! Physical Graffiti and NOT Zeppelin IV. Can you feel my pain? I always thought that was on purpose, showing that he was still a bit of a nervous, sweet, insecure, teenager. Are you thinking it was a mistake?
  18. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Jun 13, 2005 -> 11:20 AM) Michael Jackson Entourage... ... Paging the Michael jackson Entourage... If they are unavailable, Mike Tyson's entourage is also available . . .
  19. QUOTE(mreye @ Jun 13, 2005 -> 11:14 AM) I think the people accepting these trips and gufts are worse. What kind of a person accepts all these trips from someone they know has a problem? That's the other problem. I am certain that some people smelled the money and suddenly became her friend. It seems to me she was trying to "buy friends" and probably didn't succeed. No doubt some relatives came out of the woodwork also. A terrible tragedy happened down here about 15 years ago. 21 elementary school student were killed in a bus accident. Almost all the kids came from very modest means, many of the families lives at or below the poverty level, many were first generation immigrants. All of a sudden, these people, who were masters of stretching a $20 per week grocery budget, were asked to manage hundreds of thousands of dollars. Some went out and bought "dreams" like new homes and cars. All were criticized for their lavish spending. In reality they were ill equipped to handle what was a lifetime of income in one check. They fell prey to con men and their own shortcomings. Even when steps are made to schedule payments, companies are out there that will advance you your settlement, giving you dimes on the dollar.
  20. Some people just cannot handle the sudden loss of a spouse in a senseless act of terrorism. In the middle of the grief, they are given millions of dollars. There are stories all over the place of lottery winners who wind up broke, or worse. And they haven't suffered a loss.
  21. QUOTE(3E8 @ Jun 11, 2005 -> 11:06 AM) Personally, I think some Zeppelin can always work. Bunch of youngsters missing the Fast Times reference
  22. It does show that money cannot replace a person. It also shows that the money will not heal, or buy happiness. I disagree that she was "lucky enough to have her husband die" :headshake
  23. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 13, 2005 -> 10:00 AM) Pardon me while I got all philosophical for a second, but I think part of the reason we exsist, is to serve as a learning tool for other Sox fans. Especially when you factor in the age difference between some of the posters, basic questions are to be expected, and if we want to help them along their trip of learning, these are minor inconviences. Also questions like that are harmless. Southsider, why did Ozzie have our pitchers batting this past weekend? That sux and is really stupid. Kenny should hire a new manager, then fire himself.
  24. What a treat. We scheduled this Boy Scout trip to Houston a long time ago. It turned out to be Scout night so we got cheap tickets and the pitching match ups changed and Clemens was pitching. Nice to see Scott Schoenweis drop in to offer up a couple base runners and lose the game. I felt so bad for Roger. Gives up 1 run, leaves with a 3-1 lead and "Lights Out" wasn't. The "stros won in the bottom of the 9th with a 3 run walk off HR. I have to ask. I just did not like the stadium. All the services, the concession areas, etc. were very nice. But the weird slope in center field including a flag pole that is in play, the giant glass wall, etc. just seem so weird and unnatural to me. It is probably the worse layout of any stadium I've been to. Everything else, from the parking to the concessions were great, but the inside design and layout drove me crazy.
  25. QUOTE(Steff @ Jun 10, 2005 -> 01:06 PM) I'm not eating lunch today.. I'm scooting out of here soon to go lay by the pool and drink a few cold ones.. LOL I had to slow down and re-read that. I thought Steff had a *great* afternoon planned.
