Newt Gingrich lies about Canada&Mexico on Fox News
QUOTE(YASNY @ Apr 23, 2005 -> 03:59 AM) We DO need tougher border controls. Drastically tougher. I assume you are talking about Kentucky and I agree 100% a well armed militia, tanks rumbling down the streets, helicopters flying over head 24/7/365, armed checkpoints when leaving, fingerprint checks, national IDs, brave patriotic volunteers, searches and detainment without probable cause, guilty until proven innocent, make it right cozy to live there If you are talking about the US, we have close to 20,000 miles of border to patrol, both land and sea. How much money are you willing to spend on the people and equipment necessary to accomplish that? Should we stop vacationers? Foreign workers? If we are trying to stop terrorists from getting in, how can we allow tourism and work visas? Interesting that every President has either looked the other way or made it easier for foreign workers from our bordering countries to be here. From the great Ronald Reagan to George W. Bush, they all have embraced these workers. Are they idiots, or maybe have a bigger picture of what is a risk and what is not?

Gun at Bush's head: Art or threat
QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Apr 22, 2005 -> 09:17 AM) then you should have no problem with my paintings of Kevin Spacey and Nathan Lane with the caption "Global extermination: I hate f**s" I think it's probably not a bad idea for the feds to make a little stop at this "artists" place and encourage him to think before he paints. I don't think an artist should have to think if the government would approve of the material. Did you think about the government's reaction it before making your post? I would guess not. When we have the freedom to make this type of statement, we know that the line is still drawn far enough out there to allow for the kinds of statements we all would agree should be protected. Having the government step in on something like this gives the government power to censor any criticism of itself and would be a giant step backwards, but a politician's dream.

Awful Experience at Sox Park (Cellular Field)
Try to get back to your seat during a Hawks game (when they are playing) and NOT waiting for a break in play. It's common courtesy to wait for a break in the action. Plus some of these yo-yos aren't even quick about it. They stand there and block the view and lazily meander to their seat. If you must block the view for a while, at least be quick.

Do you have a problem?
There is the potential for Oz to become a distraction and that should be a small concern. I wouldn't want Ozzies mouth to wrote a check his ass cannot cash. At some point players are going to realize they too will get trashed if they leave. Then they wonder if he's being a bit two-faced in saying nice things. Is he saying this because he means it, or because I'm playing for him? What's he going to say about this if I leave? Those are not the doubts you want your employees to have.

Just wondering...
QUOTE(YASNY @ Apr 22, 2005 -> 09:19 AM) I didn't want to restart the whole discussion. Just that "The Sky Is Falling" stuff you screaming about when this started, did not happen. Which was my point at the time ... wait and see how it all works out. These guys did bring attention to a real problem and that was their goal. I get it, you don't want to restart the conversation just give a little f*** you, rub it in my face, I told you so. Gee Thanks :headshake The vigilantes were talking about the armed confrontation that was coming from Mexico, I didn't see that. The armed street gangs from Mexico, nada, didn't happen. As far as the money, the point I am making is a sane visiting worker policy is needed, that allows American businesses to employ temporary workers from Mexico and other countries to work in the fields. You will not get workers to travel the country for 9 months a year picking crops. They will not live out of their cars, go to the bathroom in porta potties, uproot their kids from schools. Our economy is too healthy for that. Since we have not had any terrorists attacks since they are patrolling the border, should we thank them for that also?

QUOTE(YASNY @ Apr 22, 2005 -> 07:21 AM) The capture of illegals has gone way down .... maybe because they stopped coming because the border was patrolled. Patrolled by volunteers, the professionals are watching the volunteers, keeping them safe. I guess it's possible the volunteers do a better job than the professionals. This may come as a surprise but we do patrol the border. They are called Border Patrol agents and they are are most highly trained uniformed law enforcement group. Where you thinking the border wasn't patrilled until the volunteers came to do it? IR sensors, motion sensors, airplanes, skilled trackers, dogs, cameras, satelite photography, informants vs. a hundred guys with binoculars, t-shirts, and clever slogans I was going to go up north and look for work. I knew I could survive the 200 mile walk crossing the desert, looking for water and food, I could get past all of the sensors, the airplanes overhead, the dogs, the satelites, snakes, insects, but damn, now they have patriots from California with binoculars, it's not possible Maybe we could make decoys that look like these guys, scarecrows of sort and position them all along the border. I just hope some positive change comes out of all this. We have to produce food in the US and we cannot take a huge increase in our food bill, without crippling an economy that is already stressed by $2 gas. I am thankful that at least one GOPer, our President, understands this.

QUOTE(Tannerfan @ Apr 21, 2005 -> 08:53 PM) Don't you guys remember Tony Larussa? And of course the great Chuck Tanner. These are the only 2 Sox managers who went on to manage World Series winners with other teams. Those were the two I thought of.

QUOTE(YASNY @ Apr 22, 2005 -> 06:49 AM) I'm glad to hear that. All that violence had to end. The cops there going door to door rounding up the moon shiners? Not a problem bothering honest AMERICANS as long as we nail a few illegals. Patriotic Americans will give up probable cause if we can nail some Mexicans Remember anyone who looks Mexican within 20 miles of the border must be up to something illegal. Now that the vigilantes solved that problem, let's send them to New York and follow Italians until they solve the organized crime problem. Did you notice how so many GOPer politicians were so careful in how they criticized President Bush calling them vigilantes? I wonder if Clinton said that if they would have been so careful in being respectful to the President?? The biggest problem is the capture of illegals along that stretch has gone way down. While the Border Patrol is busy keeping these guys safe and stopping any problems before they happen, illegals are just coming in. Nothing like diverting already spread too thin resources away from stopping illegals and calling it a success. :headshake

Gun at Bush's head: Art or threat
QUOTE(YASNY @ Apr 20, 2005 -> 07:02 AM) I think the Secret Service is right to at least check into it to see if its a threat. Just to clarify, Don't you mean I think the Secret Service is right to at least check into it to see if the artist is a threat. I don't think anyone would say the picture is a threat?

QUOTE(YASNY @ Apr 22, 2005 -> 06:41 AM) ... if the border area of Texas has solved that "vigilante" problem yet. Yep, we sent 'em to Arizona

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Apr 21, 2005 -> 05:38 PM) Every freaking politician SUCKS. They're ALL corrupt bastard f***s. Every single one of them. So can we stop with the partisan hackery? /off soapbox The system is against the independent thinker. You need party support to win dog catcher, President and everything in between. Vote party line or go home. There are a few politicians I respect as people. They seem to be at the fringes of both parties. I like Kap and my Senator Hutchinson. I also really like my congressman, Ruben Hinojosa. Both seem to have some integrity and work hard to understand the issues that are key to them and important to their constituents. They also happen to be almost polar opposites in ideology. Tom DeLay Gotta Love The Hammer.

A couple days ago I swapped a couple emails with her and invited her to the Visitors Clubhouse, but she declined. She sounded funny as can be and I'll bet would be a forum favorite if she was A. A White Sox Fan B. Posted here

A bus stops and 2 Italian men get on. They sit down and engage in an animated conversation. The lady sitting next to them ignores them at first, but her attention is galvanized when she hears one of them say the following: "Emma come first. Den I come. Den two asses come together. I come once-a-more. Two asses, they come together again. I come again and pee twice. Then I come one lasta time." "You foul-mouthed, sex-obsessed swine," retorted the lady indignantly. "In this country....we don't speak aloud in public places about our sex lives." "Hey, coola down lady," said the man. "Who talkin' abou ta sex? I'm a just a tellin' my frienda how to spell Mississippi."

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Apr 19, 2005 -> 10:49 AM) Twins fans frequent this board= http://p216.ezboard.com/fdtfcdtfcminnesotatwinsforum not a great site however, they also post at the typical MLB and ESPN boards as well. Not much to work with, mostly trolls from other boards. I am not going to the troll boards like espn or mlb. Many of us fled from those boards and their problems. No need to invite trouble.

Friday night lights..
QUOTE(ChiSoxyGirl @ Apr 18, 2005 -> 02:58 PM) Funny, the NY Times just had a story about a girls high school basketball team from Texas that went deep into the play-offs but fired the coach mostly because she was a lesbian.... Now it's coming out that more sports may be caught up in this at Donna. It's going to hurt their recruiting (oops, I mean) I don't think they will get as many transfers as they have in the past. Amazing how top athletes all of a sudden transfer to Donna or Sharyland and fill a starting hole in the lineup. The worse initiation we had in High School was a jock covering someone's head. But the guy was an obnoxious jerk, and it was more in response to that. We also made the Freshman carry our golf clubs to the school bus after their first meet. I'm still trying to comprehend someone wanting to snap on the gloves. :headshake

Gun at Bush's head: Art or threat
QUOTE(winodj @ Apr 13, 2005 -> 11:16 AM) I have a big problem with artwork being investigated by federal authorities. It creates a chilling effect towards the exercise of free expression. And those who believe in democracy and American ideals that we hold dear ought to have a problem with it too. I think there is a difference in investigating and taking inappropriate action. I believe the secret service has a responsibility to investigate any perceived threats to the President to determine if it is a threat or not. Calling it art, does not exempt it from any laws. I do not believe this is a threat, so the feds should look, shake their heads, laugh, get mad, cry, fall to their knees, or any emotional response they like. I can easily see this as art. While it doesn't exactly peg the creativity gage and seems rather sophomoric at best, it does elicit an emotional response, both positive and negative, and I believe art should. The fact that the artist has people here questioning his work, discussing it, arguing it's merits, is victory for the artist. The harshest criticism of an artist is to say nothing, to feel nothing.

I could list a scenario that any team but the Royals would win the central. All four of these teams are relatively thin in key areas and have question marks in others. If someone catches fire and stays healthy, it could be almost anyones division. Now, it would take a bigger hit to slow Minny or the Sox, than Cleveland or Detroit. I thought that Detroit needed Maggs to be, well Maggs.

Bobby Fischer...
QUOTE(LowerCaseRepublican @ Apr 18, 2005 -> 02:26 PM) This guy is definitely a few fries short of a Happy Meal -- being prosecution for a chess game? He played chess -- its not like he did anything criminal while there. Is Fischer even worth the effort to bring him back? Thought not. He does have a mental disease or defect. It is interesting to me that real genius is on such a thin line with crazy. I played a lot of tournament chess, grew up during Fisher's battle against the Soviet Empire, and during the cold war, chess was a source of national pride for the Soviets, so Fisher's win was an epic battle. Kind of like Madagascar beating the Yankees. The crime he committed in playing Spasky was violating an economic embargo. It seems a lot easier and saner to just revoke his US citizenship and be done with him. If you polled all the great chess players and had them list the top players of all time, Fisher would be on everyones top 5 and probably at least half of the #1 spots. In the pre computer days when all analysis of opening theory had to be sweated out, he was masterful. His analysis during adjournments was incredible. It's sad that he is someone who deserves so little respect for his beliefs.
