QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Mar 15, 2005 -> 01:14 PM) Out of curiosity are these real dollar cuts, or are the cuts in projections? Cynic alert -- Depends on who is talking and which would help their cause. If these were Iraqi kids, no problem, we have an unlimited budget for them.

March 15, 2005 Dear James, Thanks to you and other friends of children, members of Congress have received almost 5,000 calls advocating for a budget that helps, not harms, children and families. Unfortunately, Congress still hasn’t gotten the message that every child matters. The Senate and House Budget Committees passed their respective budgets last week. Both budgets will put us on a path that will require budget cuts to proven programs that help children and families. The full Senate and House will be voting on their respective budgets this week. For a budget update and overview, follow this link: http://www.chn.org/humanneeds/050311a.html Call your member of Congress on March 15th and 16th. Use state-specific data to tell your Senators that we need a budget that invests in America’s children, not one that cuts programs for children and families. To contact your member of Congress, use this toll-free number, 1-800-247-2971 on March 15th or 16th, call the U.S. Capitol Switchboard at (202) 224-3121, or follow this link: http://www.congress.org/congressorg/dbq/officials/ Budget Resources: -House Budget Proposal State-by-State Analysis, click here. -Bush Budget State-by-State Analysis, click here and find your state on the map. Next Steps In the Congressional Budget Fight: After the Senate and House pass their respective budgets, the differences must be worked out in a Senate-House conference, and then the conferenced budget will be voted on again by the full Senate and House before being adopted. Senator John Kerry Introduces "KidsFirst" Health Initiative (S. 114) Nearly 25 million children were without health insurance for all or part of 2002 and 2003. That’s simply unacceptable in the world’s most powerful and wealthy nation. In response to this national disgrace, Senator John Kerry has introduced S.114, the “Kids First Act of 2005” which would cover every uninsured child in America under 21. We invite you to join a grassroots campaign to win passage of this historic legislation. You will be joining with thousands of individuals and organizations who believe that it is morally unacceptable to allow any child to go without medical care and who recognize that the long term economic benefits to society greatly outweigh any costs. The bill already has been endorsed by such organizations as the American Academy of Pediatrics, American Federation of Teachers, AFL-CIO, National Association of Children’s Hospitals, March of Dimes, and the National Association of Community Health Centers. With your help, we can pass legislation to insure every child. You can help by: Becoming a citizen co-sponsor of the KidsFirst Act. Just follow this link: http://www.johnkerry.com/petition/kidsfirst.php?source=500 Ask your members of Congress to co-sponsor “KidsFirst” (S.114). QUOTE(AnthraxFan93 @ Mar 15, 2005 -> 12:47 PM) 1. Should Ozzie then tell KW how to be a GM? Granted he needs help but not from a Manager.. Let KW f*** up his own job not someone elses 2. This is a first.. But, lets see a seasons end if things don't go well who he blames for this year? Manage, players, Fans,. Jimmy the hotdog vendor? 3. Why Sign Gooch then if Willie "The Failure" Harris is your starter? Thats like Signing Eldque and then telling Bmac he has a shot at the rotation. 1.) Read slower. I know you thought you saw a chance to rip KW and probably rushed a bit.

QUOTE(mreye @ Mar 15, 2005 -> 12:41 PM) No, I think I just busted you and you're coming over to the dark side and agreeing with us "hillbillies" that NASCAR is indeed a sport. Don't worry. Your secret's safe with me. QUOTE(YASNY @ Mar 15, 2005 -> 12:44 PM) LMAO... Them's fightin' words. You calling a guy from Kentucky a hillbilly? whoa, that's a stretch I kid, because I care used by permission.

QUOTE(YASNY @ Mar 15, 2005 -> 12:31 PM) At $55 a barrel, Texas is probably thinking about drilling again. Hell, we got awhl rigs from the Galveston to Odessa . . . Everyone has got one in their backyard, that's why we don't have a state income tax

Add Your Name to the Citizens' Roll Call Dear James, We have only 24 to 48 hours to try and save the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. The Republicans are trying to sneak legislation through the Senate approving oil drilling and they are incredibly close to winning. We have to stop them. I am joining with Senator Maria Cantwell (D-Washington) in offering a critical amendment to stop this sneak attack on our environment. We will fight on the floor of the Senate, but we need you by our side. There are seven key Republican Senators whose votes will decide the future of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. Before they vote, we need to make sure they know that their constituents are watching, and that they will not be able to support drilling without anybody noticing. Here are two critical steps we can take together to support our amendment to protect this National Wildlife Refuge: 1. Join the Citizens' Roll Call First of all, take part in a massive fast-moving display of citizen support for the Arctic Refuge. Sign our Cantwell-Kerry Citizens' Roll Call now. http://www.johnkerry.com/RollCall To make our Citizens' Roll Call impossible to ignore, we have alerted the media, environmental advocates and my fellow Senators to a scrolling display of the names and home towns of the roll call signers. It is posted on our johnkerry.com website, where we hope to soon add your name and a running tally of the number of citizens on our Citizens' Roll Call. 2. Bring the fight to the home states of the seven senators We need to launch emergency online advertising campaigns in the home states of those seven critical senators: Senator Coleman (MN), Senator Smith (OR), Senator Specter (PA), Senator Martinez (FL), Senator Lugar (IN), and Senators Gregg and Sununu (NH). We need your help to bring our Save the Arctic Refuge message home in these six states. Help us fund an emergency ad campaign to make sure they know how strongly the people they represent feel about protecting the Arctic. Please make an emergency donation right now. http://contribute.johnkerry.com/ When Senator Cantwell, myself and other Senators stand up in support of the Cantwell-Kerry Amendment, we will have powerful arguments on our side. (I have recapped some of those arguments at the end of this email message) But, to win, we need to be able to report directly to our Senate colleagues that massive numbers of citizens around the country - and in their own states - are rising up to demand that the Senate protect the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. That's why your immediate signature is so critical. http://www.johnkerry.com/RollCall The Bush Administration and its oil industry allies want to send a message that they can drill for oil wherever and whenever they want to - even if it means targeting a place as striking, pristine and irreplaceable as the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. They don't care about putting America on a genuine path to energy independence. If they did, they'd support efforts to increase energy conservation and to create clean, renewable sources of energy that no terrorist can sabotage and no foreign government can seize. Let me be very direct with you. It is going to take an immediate and impossible-to-ignore display of grassroots support to stop them. That's why your decision to sign our Cantwell-Kerry Amendment Citizens' Roll Call is so crucial. Thank you for acting quickly on this vital request. John Kerry P.S. Senator Cantwell, who comes from a state in the heart of the Pacific Northwest, has - at considerable political risk - courageously stepped forward to join me in leading this fight. We need you to help us win it. http://www.johnkerry.com/RollCall HERE ARE YOUR SAVE THE ARCTIC REFUGE TALKING POINTS * The Arctic National Wildlife Refuge's 19 million acres comprise one of the last places on earth where an intact expanse of arctic and sub arctic lands remains protected. * Drilling in the Arctic Refuge can't make even a small dent in meeting America's energy needs. U.S. Geological Survey scientists estimate that there is very likely only enough oil to supply America's needs for six months. And oil companies admit that, even that, won't be available for at least 10 years. * An irreplaceable natural treasure, the Arctic Refuge is home to caribou, polar bears, grizzly bears, wolves, golden eagles, snow geese and more. Millions of other birds use the Arctic Refuge to nest and as a critical staging area on their migratory journeys. * Of course, the Arctic Refuge supports more than wildlife. For a thousand generations, the Gwich'in people of Northeast Alaska and Northwest Canada have depended on it and lived in harmony with it. To them, the Arctic Coastal Plain is sacred ground.

Guy: I'm going to see the game tonight! Girl: What game? He should have picked a better name for himself. My favorite band name along these lines was No Cover Looked great on the marquee out front

KW is telling Oz to manage, I like that. KW is taking responsibility for the contracts, I like that. I love competition and if Ozzie believes Harris is the starter, I like the fact that KW has given OZ the green light to play a guy based on merit not paychecks.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Mar 15, 2005 -> 08:49 AM) What happens when the "4th branch of government" is so biased against a single group of people, that they will do anything, including make up stories and evidence to discredit them, their beliefs, and their way of life? Is no one allowed to investigate the media and their intentions? Should no one find out why they are saying what they are saying? Should the media be allowed to favor a certian way of life over another, even while maintaining the charade that they are being fair? Why does the government (who I thought was us incidentally) deserve to be investigated and kept honest, but the people doing the investigating get off scott-free? Fair question and allow me show you how to answer a question. They should be checked and held to a high standard. But adding up column inches and air time and calling some negative and some positive is silly. A Tsunami killing tens of thousands of people is news, millions of sun bathers is not. Politicians taking junkets from foreign agents is news, kissing babies and mailing flags is not. Any negative story is immediately met with cries of media bias. The media has made mistakes on both sides. Remember Kerry and his supposed mistress? Was that media bias? The GOP is not asking for fair, they want cheerleaders. DeLay has called the attacks against him as media bias as evidence mounts. Clinton called his detractors part of a vast right wing conspiracy. Both statements are jokes. Now, would you care to answer my question?
-
What happens when the government is free of any criticism? When anyone who reports that the President authorized a break in, or had sex with an intern, or soldiers murdered civilians, is dismissed as having a bias? Are we better off? By discredting the one group who has the time, resources, and opportunity to "keep the governmnent honest" our elected leaders will have no oversight. This is basically what the Soviet Union had with TASS. And we know how well their society turned out.
-
When a group who appeals to half the population is pushing their self serving agenda at every opportunity, it's no wonder the public is starting to agree. Too bad they aren't using that propaganda for good, instead of self serving interests. What happens when we believe everything our government tells us because anyone who is critical of them can not be trusted?

Steve Stone Joining White Sox Broadcast Tomorrow
Texsox replied to Al Lopez Ghost (old)'s topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Mar 14, 2005 -> 01:03 PM) I know he lives pretty darn close to the stadium. Maybe he's getting some days off to be with the family or the baby? I dunno. I've really come around on DJ. I enjoy his voice and he's good for a couple of yucks. That said, a Hawk-Stone combo in the booth would be one for the ages. Hands down the best in the MLB. I don't know if any of you have the extra innings package, but if you have ever heard some of the broadcasters for other clubs, it's pretty easy to tell we have one of the better duos in baseball. Some are just god awful. I caught almost every broadcast team and the Yankee team is #1 in my book. I loved their broadcast.
