"Otis! My Man!" "Can we dance with yo dates?"
  2. The mom must be heartbroken and probably beating herself up for being late.
  3. What is alarming to me is all the money we borrow from around the globe. The same countries that would not send troops to Iraq, are happy to lend us money so we can go there ourselves. The rest of the world saves, while we spend and bankrupt ourselves. Bush and the GOP just keep spending and spending and cutting taxes. Let's all take pay cuts and max out credit cards! Then when the economy is "stimulated" we'll all make more money. Don't let the government spend more than we send them.
  4. Intersting the people here who called Maggs a selfish, greedy, MF for becoming a free agent and NOT showing any LOYALTY. Suddenly don't have a problem with dumping Frank if it means helping the team. LOL. You guys kill me.

QUOTE(The Critic @ Mar 16, 2005 -> 09:26 AM) "....this one goes to 11....." I find myself quoting that and people around me giving me a blank look.
  6. QUOTE(retro1983hat @ Mar 16, 2005 -> 09:09 AM) Billy Goat: s***ty, crappy, overpriced, miniscule burgers. f*** Sam Siannis and his uncle's dumb curse. I think the reason I would not want the Cubs to ever win has more to do with not wanting to see that old bastard and his girlfriend (some goat they got from Lincoln Park Zoo), than anything about the baseball team. The popularity is mostly from the SNL bit with Belushi, Akroyd and company. Cheeseburger, Cheeseburger, Cheeseburger, no fries, cheeps, no Coke, Pepsi!
  7. QUOTE(mreye @ Mar 16, 2005 -> 08:56 AM) Exactly! It's a cut in the program's annual budget increase. Not an actual cut! Call me a synic, Tex. It's the truth. Where does it say it is a cut in the increase? Even if it is a cut in the increase, inflation and needs increase, so it would still be a cut.
  8. QUOTE(Wong & Owens @ Mar 16, 2005 -> 08:34 AM) I don't believe the book contains a lick of anti-Catholic "prejudice," but if it does, well, payback's a b**** ain't it? In Catholicism there are Capitol "T" Traditions that are bedrock matters of faith and there are small "t" traditions that are more transitory, and have changed through the years. This book challenges some of the Traditions of Catholic faith. The Virgin Mary is one of them. Jesus not marrying is another. IIRC the book also questions Saints and their roll in faith. I would also assume that it challenges Peter and his roll. For those wondering small t traditions would be things like the frequency of receiving communion. That has gone from at every opportunity to once or twice in a lifetime (preferably near death), to daily. Another one is Priests being allowed to marry. That was changed a few hundred years ago.
  9. As part of a broader question, can someone read, view, or listen to, unhealthy messages as part of research, or questioning, and not be harmed? Pete Townsend was busted for looking at child pornography, he claimed was for a project. Someone at the Vatican must have read the book to form an opinion, were they harmed? Could a loyal Sox fan spend the summer as a Cubs fan to see what it's like?
  10. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Mar 16, 2005 -> 01:49 AM) Congress has better things to do. Unless the cops or the feds want to arrest these guys for steroids. Otherwise, leave this to major league baseball for christ sake. Plus for cripes sake, why put Thomas and Schlling in the same group with all these guys accused of being on roids. A very high profile American industry may have been systematically violating federal drug laws. Seems like a good place for congress to take a look. Thomas and Schilling are examples of how to do it right. That should come out in the coverage. I would want a "victim" to come forward. Mr. Thomas you finished second in the MVP voting to a known steroid user, do you feel cheated? Powerful message.
  11. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Mar 16, 2005 -> 07:36 AM) [Too bad there is no liberal media to investigate this miscarriage of justice. They are all busy reading internet message boards so they can write their stories
  12. Let Our Requests Be Known By Donna Kay Heath Service had started, and the minister began his sermon in our small country church in southeastern North Carolina. Everyone's attention was on the intense words being delivered to us that would feed us for the week and enlighten us on God's word. Because our church was so small, there was no nursery. This gave me the privilege of having my active three-year-old daughter sit with her father and me. Along with being active, Tammie had a gift for words - that is, speaking them - and had not yet mastered the art of understanding that quietness was of the utmost importance in church, especially when the Sunday morning sermon was being delivered! After many admonishments to be quiet, Tammie's father picked her up to take her outside for a little conference. This was not the first time such an event had taken place, and she understood its significance. She also obviously understood the significance of prayer! For as her father picked her up and was walking down the aisle to carry her outside, Tammie reached over his shoulders with her arms outstretched to the congregation and the minister. She then proceeded to call out to all who would listen, "Ya'll pray for me!" Needless to say, it was a few minutes later before we could get back on track with the sermon. Guess it proves we are never too young to "let our requests be known"!

  14. OK, y'all convinced me JR's a lovable, sentimental fool, who I am certain wants Frank to finish his career in a White Sox uniform and if that means signing an admitted steroid user to a minor league contract, then by golly he will. And Frank will consider that magnanimous gesture in his decision to stay, because he and Giambi are tight, like brothers.

QUOTE(YASNY @ Mar 16, 2005 -> 07:03 AM) I can only remember two lines from "The Jerk" 1. The new phone books are! The new phone books are here! 2. I've got a "special purpose". 1. (continued) it is this sort of spontaneous publicity that makes a man . . . 3. I was born a poor black child . . .
  16. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Mar 16, 2005 -> 07:05 AM) That's an interesting scenario. If you are testifying under immunity, can you still exersize your fifth amendment rights? Anyone know how that works? My understanding is the 5th Amendment protects you from self incrimination. Because they have immunity, the person could not incriminate themselves in any crime. Therefor, they must answer the question truthfully or be subject to perjury charges.
  17. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Mar 16, 2005 -> 06:23 AM) What's a fair contract for Thomas to finish off his career then Tex? At the expense of Konerko even? My comment is Jerry has shown through the years that sentimental gestures like wanting Frank to finish his career in a Sox uniform isn't his style. I certainly do not buy the conspiracy theory that signing Giambi to a minor league team is linked in any way to Frank. Maybe tossing a bone to Giambi's agent, but that is about it. Jerry does not allow sentiment to get in the way of winning and money. And as far as it only being 3, name 3 bigger superstars on JRs payroll? Going smaller, Sandy Alomar wanted to play one more year, he's in Texas. He has been praised and mentioned as a possible Manager someday. There's no crying in White Sox baseball . . .

I keep trying to remember the Steve Martin line in The Jerk. Something like isn't being a Dentist great! Everyone call you Doctor, but you're really not . . . all the while in "the chair"
  19. We know how much Jerry values a superstar finishing in a Chicago jersey Fisk, Jordan, Frank? Do we really believe that Jerry is going to care where Frank finishes his career?

  21. With my present web hosting situation I can receive email through my domain, but can not send. I know that is standard for most hosting companies to combat spammers, but are there some that will allow me to send and receive from my domain? Confused? I was after re-reading the above. For example. Let's say I owned the domain http://www.texsox.com My hosting company would allow me to receive mail addressed to me@texsox.com but when I send, I would have to send as me@aol.com or whomever is my ISP. I want to send and receive like I had a dedicated server.
