  1. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Feb 5, 2005 -> 07:51 PM) Beltre was paid soley on this year and his career year blew out of the water what maggs has ever done. I loved maggs when he was here also but you're sorely overrating his value. One guy has 5 years of .300/30/100 vs. a guy with one great season. Baseball salries are insane to begin with, but Maggs earning more than a guy with one great season behind him makes sense. If Maggs hadn't been injured, he would have been closer to 6/90
  2. Beltre has had exactly one season over .265 avg., over 80 rbi, .426 slugging, and over 23 HRs. Beltre signed for 5 years $64 million. Tell me Maggs is worth less than Beltre. GMAB. Maggs averaged for 6 seasons over Beltre's one career year. With protections in place in case the Doctors here are right and he loses major time, something over $64 million is within the insanity that is baseball salaries.
  3. Salaries increase every season. 15 in 2009 is far different than 15 in 2005. Career .300 hitters with some pop in the bat make a lot of money.

    Adopt a sniper

What Nuke is trying to explain is MAN decides what is murder, not GOD. Duh. The US Government defines morality. If the government decides someone should be dead, that is their right and it isn't murder. Thou Shall Not Kill really means Thou Shall Not Kill unless your government tells you to. Of course GOD only gave this right to the US, not anyone who we disagree with. Of course what Sadaam did was murder.
  5. A contract between Beltre and Beltran is about right. How many other guys put up that many seasons over .300, 100 rbi, 30 hr? If he returns and puts up those numbers, they received a bargain. If he cannot play, they are protected.
  6. From CrimsonWeltall in the thread about the teenagers who were sued for delivering cookies at 10:30 PM and scaring a woman.
  7. Of the billion plus humans on the planet, these two wastes of oxygen, make up such a small, small, percentage. Let's remember that most parents would gladly give up their own loves for their children.
  8. Learn to speak Texan phrase #173 "I'm off like a prom dress . . ."
  9. QUOTE(Jeckle2000 @ Feb 4, 2005 -> 01:33 PM) Those people could have easily choked on those cookies. Then we'd have a cereal killer on our hands. Especially if they were Rice Krispy Treats
  10. I forgot about him until you mentioned it. I was more wondering how Lorne Greene was feeling.
  11. John Vernon, Ossie Davis, and ?? Celebrity deaths always come in threes? Who is it going to be?
  12. Wait until we trade for him again. He'll wind up like Baines and have three or four stints with the Sox.
  13. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Feb 4, 2005 -> 09:23 AM) Now that this has come out are you people gonna lay off Rummy? by "you people" I assume you mean Americans?
  14. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Feb 4, 2005 -> 09:26 AM) Common sense? If some of that would be applied in jury awards there would be no reason for this debate. The fact of the matter is that lawyers care nothing about the welfare of their clients, all they care about is getting the big awards and then taking half or more of it in fees. Nuke, your view of your fellow human is truly inspiring Are lawyers the only profession that doesn't care about their clients? Kind of like soldiers that don't care about their country, they only care about collecting a paycheck.
  15. Florida has the death penalty, they use it, and it didn't prevent this It was just a matter of time before one of these kids died. Thank God they were found first.
  16. Actually I'm predicting the Sandy Alomar trade at the deadline to bring veteran leadership and to catch Buerhle.
  17. No doubt attendance would be better. I always felt the Arlington Park site, with rail access, would have been excellent. Problem is not very many suburbs could afford to build a stadium.

    Stress relief..

OMG, I thought this was Steff Relief, and who'd want that?
  19. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Feb 3, 2005 -> 11:56 PM) Egad, a base life defiles a bad age! Oh, wait, crap... I think I wrote that backwards. (wait for it... ... ...) From Tommy Shaw Jim, Go hang a salami: I'm a lasagna hog two can play at the Palindrome!
  20. Each of the past few seasons at least a couple guys would pick the Sox, and I canot recall us being lower than 3rd. Most called it a 2-way race. I really cannot wait for ST this year to see how it all shakes out.
  21. I don't put all that much stock in what baseball experts are saying, but when we get so little love in the off season I have to reevaluate what's happened. Pitching, both starting and relief are no doubt better. Speed and defense are also up. We lost power. Lee, Maggs, Jose, gone for certain and Frank returns whenever. Maybe we haven't increased all that much.
  22. It's all about the money and exposure.
