Opening Day vs. Cleveland 4-4-05
QUOTE(Kalapse @ Feb 6, 2005 -> 01:14 PM) Hate to break it to you but this guy is not an intelligent Cleveland fan, he just says that we're bias and pumps up his Indians. You've ever been to Ohio? That's as good as it gets

Opening Day vs. Cleveland 4-4-05
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Feb 6, 2005 -> 01:13 PM) Sure if he wants to act like an intelligent fan, I have no problem with it. Anti-Sox Sig on a White Sox site = not intelligent. The fact that it links to yet another sports board is more annoying. How many guys are starting sites? Fortunately, while an anti-Indians sig would bother Indian fans, Sox fans are too mature and secure in our team, to be bothered. We understand the level of stupidity it takes to put that together, and the kind of person he must be, and are able to laugh at the childish nature of the sig. Perhaps it is part of his therapy. Perhaps it's ncorgbl coming out of retirement Let's pop open a bottle of Lake Erie water and drink a toast to the Mistake on the Lake

Keys to the 2005 Sox
QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Feb 6, 2005 -> 01:06 PM) Shingo? I'm not 100% convinced he'll go the season. Just a nagging thought in the back of my head when I think what is the most likely cause of this team going to hell. I come up with health aka 2004 and closer aka 2003.

Opening Day vs. Cleveland 4-4-05
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Feb 6, 2005 -> 01:05 PM) So I am gone for a week, and we are letting some two bit troll cruise our board with an anti-Sox signature? Oh for shame. Drop the sig junior, or hit the road... you know, like the Indians fairweather fans did when the good players left town. We need at least one intelligent fan from each of the Central Division teams. This one may be the intelligent one, maybe not. I've been hanging out at one of the Tiger's sites with some really good fans. Nice exchange of opinions. They like the new look Sox, are very excited about year two of their rebuilding process. They think any of four teams could win the division, it will take some mid level guys to have career years and the superstars to perform. Let Drew Carey and Cleveland rocks stick around.

Keys to the 2005 Sox
QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Feb 6, 2005 -> 12:46 PM) Mine is not so much in terms of people but in terms of the following. 1. Getting on base. The top of the order has to get on base and do it often. The whole key to the offense is the top 2 in the order setting the table for the likes of Kong & Everett. 2. Starting pitching. MB needs to be MB and everyone else needs to follow suit. 3. Fundamentals. They can't afford to start the season the way they did last time. It seemed that the 1st few weeks they couldn't get out of their own way. They have to cut down on the errors too. Valentin is gone so there goes a bunch and hopefully Crede spent his winter fielding ground balls and mastering the art of transferring the ball from his glove to his throwing hand. Damn, I seem to be following Nuke and agreeing with him. If we don't get some baserunners, the loss in power is worthless. From the looks of it, we have our best starting pitching in years. If the pitching lives up to the billing, we're in a lot of games this season. My worry, something that isn't mentioned often, do we have a consistent closer in the house?

Power Outage
QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Feb 6, 2005 -> 12:41 PM) I dont know why people are so fixated by homeruns. I know they are exciting and everything but the last 4 seasons we've had boppers up and down the lineup, led or nearly led the leauge in HR's and won nothing better than a tee time in Florida in October. I for one welcome a transition from a musclehead lineup to one that has a little more speed and singles/doubles. Even though he swings from the right side of the plate, I agree. The question is, how much did we give up vs. how much did we gain.

Power Outage
Even the optimistic numbers are a 15-20% drop in HR. Which is also a drop in runs scored. Don't forget Maggs was are most consistent (.300+ avg.) hitter. We need guys to get on base. Let's say that the first part of the equation is happening, guys are getting on base and advancing. Pitchers are less likely to challenge the hitters with 1st base open than with no one on base. All of a sudden those 2-2 fast balls out over the plate, become corner nibblers and breaking balls. This changes more than just adding and dropping power numbers.

Magglio contract breakdown
QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Feb 6, 2005 -> 01:42 AM) Seriously, this shows me enough. If anyone ever doubted it, there is no doubt anymore, Boras is the best freaking agent in all of sports. He could represent me anytime. How the hell did he get Maggs 15 mill a year, I'll never now, but good god he did the job. Maggs should be excited as hell. Obviously he should of still taken the Sox deal (cause they are a better team then the Tigers) but this is definately a quality backup plan. I think the Tigers are a nice franchise who have won two World Series in my lifetime. I am honestly surprised at this contract. I really think he could have gotten $100 mil if he hadn't been injured.

Ex-Sox Player Admits to Steroids!
QUOTE(The Critic @ Feb 6, 2005 -> 09:49 AM) Jose Canseco is the male equivalent of an aging bimbo who can't deal with the fact that nobody fawns over her anymore. He's a pathetic attention whore. As much as I love a good "he's dirty" story, it takes more than Canseco's testimony for me to believe.

Gambling on sports
QUOTE(3 BeWareTheNewSox 5 @ Feb 6, 2005 -> 12:24 AM) I use ********* Are you sure knightni? I don't think there's anything wrong with it, I know lots that bet with that site It is definitely illegal to gamble in the US. Enforcement is next to impossible, so it goes on. I am amazed that they allow advertisements to be aired.

Magglio contract breakdown
QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Feb 5, 2005 -> 10:44 PM) Just what I was thinking... The Tiggies have one void in this contract. One. So, if Magglio makes it through this year, everything else becomes guaranteed (or at least up until the option years?)??? It could get real ugly if the two sides start pointing fingers at each other mid-season, meaning -- Maggs thinks he's OK to go on the knee, the Tigers want him on the DL -- it might get real, real messy... That's why there are team Doctors. I am certain there is some mechanism in the contract to protect both parties.

MLB.tv
I signed up last season and for the most part it works well. When it doesn't, it really sucks. I have a cable modem and wireless network.

Magglio contract breakdown
Looking it over, if Maggs is seriously hurt, the Tigers are out $12 mil. Not a lot of guaranteed money. If I was an All-Star, Boras is the guy I would want negotiating my contract.

Magglio contract breakdown
Probably as fast as Sox fans concluded he was a no talent greedy jerk.

Newsday: Ordonez To Sign 5 Yr/75 Mil Contract
QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Feb 5, 2005 -> 07:51 PM) Beltre was paid soley on this year and his career year blew out of the water what maggs has ever done. I loved maggs when he was here also but you're sorely overrating his value. One guy has 5 years of .300/30/100 vs. a guy with one great season. Baseball salries are insane to begin with, but Maggs earning more than a guy with one great season behind him makes sense. If Maggs hadn't been injured, he would have been closer to 6/90
-
Newsday: Ordonez To Sign 5 Yr/75 Mil Contract
Beltre has had exactly one season over .265 avg., over 80 rbi, .426 slugging, and over 23 HRs. Beltre signed for 5 years $64 million. Tell me Maggs is worth less than Beltre. GMAB. Maggs averaged for 6 seasons over Beltre's one career year. With protections in place in case the Doctors here are right and he loses major time, something over $64 million is within the insanity that is baseball salaries.

Newsday: Ordonez To Sign 5 Yr/75 Mil Contract
Salaries increase every season. 15 in 2009 is far different than 15 in 2005. Career .300 hitters with some pop in the bat make a lot of money.

Adopt a sniper
What Nuke is trying to explain is MAN decides what is murder, not GOD. Duh. The US Government defines morality. If the government decides someone should be dead, that is their right and it isn't murder. Thou Shall Not Kill really means Thou Shall Not Kill unless your government tells you to. Of course GOD only gave this right to the US, not anyone who we disagree with. Of course what Sadaam did was murder.

Newsday: Ordonez To Sign 5 Yr/75 Mil Contract
A contract between Beltre and Beltran is about right. How many other guys put up that many seasons over .300, 100 rbi, 30 hr? If he returns and puts up those numbers, they received a bargain. If he cannot play, they are protected.
