It's a Trend
Thought number one, this current Administration probably didn't invent this. How long until we find out that this reaches way back? I will be shocked if this didn't happen during Clinton administration as well. At least the people that accepted the money are also the same ones that reasonably would have been accepted to approve of the plan even without the money. Maybe we are talking government waste here? Personally, IMHO, any columnist who has accepted money like this should be looking for new work.

QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Jan 27, 2005 -> 03:18 PM) Dang, I pegged you as one of the few here that might also own a copy of that on good old vinyl. Cheater. I knew it was a Pink Floyd at least. It just took me a while to search out the exact title.

Top 10 Most Improved Teams Of 2005
We lost Maggs and Lee, and Frank is a question mark. That's a lot of negative on that side of the scale. 5 of the 9 starters are gone from a year ago. They are replaced by a guy from Japan, guys coming off less than career years, and a guy trying to shake a clubhouse cancer tag. Where is the love?

Nuke, is this true?
QUOTE(mreye @ Jan 27, 2005 -> 03:01 PM) While I agree with you, I also see the miltary's point. Think about the costs. I know that the cost shouldn't really matter when it comes to the troops, but in reality, it does. Look at the budget to rebuild Iraq. I know there must be some accountability, but begging phone cards from US citizens isn't how I think our Troops should be treated. I want Nuke to have internet access to argue with me

Nuke, is this true?
QUOTE(mreye @ Jan 27, 2005 -> 02:36 PM) No comment, Tex? I still think it is ridiculous that soldiers rely on gifts and charity for a lot of their calls home. It is also up to their CO to determine if they even get those two. We are asking a whole lot of these people, and I believe close to unlimited calls home is the least we could do. Bush just asked for $80 Billion more, aren't are service men and women worth a few million in phone calls.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jan 27, 2005 -> 02:18 PM) Placing a player with a well run organization isn't a consideration of an agent? Yes, but telling a player to sign for less so the team can pay other players isn't. If the team doesn't think they can be successful paying the player that contract, THEY should not sign him to that contract. How do you define well run?

It isn't up to Boras to tell a club how to run their business.

Crede...Don't be greedy
QUOTE(gotoh00 @ Jan 26, 2005 -> 10:33 PM) Just wanted to say it once By that do you mean he should just accept whatever the club offers?

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jan 27, 2005 -> 01:00 PM) Or at least more agents that will place his players interests ahead of their own... I haven't heard a player complain about what Boras has done for them. He isn't for everyone, and certainly small market, low payroll teams, need not apply. But name another agent with his stable of players. He also does an incredible job of taking the villian role and allowing his players to somewhat be shielded from the uglies. Taking the PR hit is exactly what most agents should be doing and helps to maximize his player's marketability. In this case he's trying to get Maggs a long term deal. How is that not in Maggs best interest? It isn't up to either side to find a "fair deal" they each try for their best and in the balance something fair comes. Everytime you sign a free agent you are the high bidder. Is every free agent an asshole and greedy? Is every agent that fights for every last dollar an asshole? If he's so bad, then why does he have so many top free agents every year?

U of Col prof essay sparks controversy
I could see his logic that the people in the Pentagon were a military target. Retailiation for anything? Certainly he could say the attacks were in retailation for anything inclusing Big Macs giving the world heart attacks, it doesn't make them justified, and it doesn't mean the victims were not innocent. Nice way to get some attention.

The Sox need more agents that will place the team's interests ahead of their clients.

News on Maggs
QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Jan 26, 2005 -> 11:48 PM) Haha Maggs is stupid. If he gets an 8 digit figure, he can go to hell, and so can the team that caved, and if that team gives him a multi-year deal, they can go to hell twice. I don't wish ill will on people...but this guy's a true asshole. Thankfully, karma will take care of his ass. Baseball is a business. Remember all the nice things the club said about Sandy Alomar? Then they cut him. Remember the glorious way Fisk was treated at the end of his career? Dumped on a road trip. Are the free agents we just signed ass holes because they went the free agent route and signed with the highest bidder? Grow up and enter the real world.

I would like to thank my parents who allowed me the freedom to listen to all kinds of music. The inventor of the 8-track player who allowed me to listen to 2 1/2 song per track endlessly looping until a lever was hit, and most of all to google.com for finding me the answer.

QUOTE(winodj @ Jan 26, 2005 -> 03:52 PM) I remember my local cops. I'd never want to remember them naked. yuck. I have to disagree, there is something about a woman, a gun, and handcuffs that sounds kind of fun . . . in that hold it against me sort of way. :rolly

11 killed in trains derailment near Los Angeles
If you are going to kill yourself, don't involve other people, do not make a mess. If you are the cutter/slasher type, do it in the bathtub. Gas, garage with the engine running and plenty of fuel (Some people underestimate how long it takes and do not start with a full gas tank). No swallowing a gun, it's always messy, ditto on jumping. An overdose would also work nicely. Park your car on train tracks so other people are also killed?? :fyou
