QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Jan 23, 2005 -> 05:14 PM) It's an honors class, so he should expect more homework out of it. Sure, it's stupid to give out homework in the summer, but suing just because of homework is not very smart either. Maybe it was for his Citizenship in the Nation class

Philly, they aren't good enough to lose again.

QUOTE(Jabroni @ Jan 23, 2005 -> 11:27 AM) No one said it was going to happen or to even believe it. That's why I included the word "RUMOR" in the subject of the thread. Well it didn't seem to be on the Twinds board, or the Astros board, which board did you read it on? What I was pointing out is how these rumors start to seem valid just because it's on a few boards.
-
How dead is he? Sorry, couldn't resist. RIP and prayers for his family.
-
Now add another message board that someone heard the rumor and people are talking about it. . . It must be even closer to the truth with all these message boards talking about it. Notice the pattern. Just because a lot of message boards are talking about it doesn't mean squat. Find the root, find someone even close to official, before starting to believe it.

The only way we see post season play is with a couple players surprising us. It would be awesome if Carl had a great season.

QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Jan 22, 2005 -> 04:27 PM) Real cute. While it is over the top, the example does highlight a challenge we have in witting our laws. The fact is that politicians like to have coattails to hide some legislation and use someones objection to part A of a bill as an objection about part B. We also like laws that actually do what they are designed to do, nothing more and nothing less. We write tough anti-terrorism legislation, then prosecute a guy in his backyard with a laser pointer. We write tough anti-mob laws (RICO) and use it to prosecute anything and everything. I want some group as a watchdog to make certain our legal system is doing what we want it to do, nothing more and nothing less. Competition hones talents and makes most things efficient. Politicians cannot be sloppy in writing laws that the legal profession could exploit against us for unintended reasons. A better example I just thought of. I will sponsor a Safe Kid Legislation making it illegal for child pornography and possessing a handgun within firing range of anyone under 18 years of age. When the NRA objects, we'll label them as anti-kid and pro-child pornography. Further, I will define child pornography as any photo of a child that could elicit strong physical or emotional responses.

QUOTE(Mr. Zero @ Jan 22, 2005 -> 03:09 AM) What kind of moron assigns homework over the summer? :banghead It's becoming the norm. Almost every English Lit course requires a novel be read over the summer. That I can kind of understand, yet it puts transfer students at a disadvantage. Calculus homework and some of the other core subjects really suck with this. No one to help if a kid gets stuck.

Great Map Site. Better than Mapquest or Yahoo

Here's the quandary I feel in our society and my Christian views. I do not want other religion's practices, creed, traditions, crammed down my or my child's throat at school, at a basketball game, or while visiting a National Park. To assure that doesn't happen, I must also respect the rights of others to not have my religious practices crammed down theirs. That in my best opinion is ACLU's position, and in our society, that seems appropriate to me. To say they are trying to destroy Christianity is a distortion. Destroying Christianity would involve closing Churches, tearing down symbols on private property, passing laws making it illegal to practice. Nuke has been in countries where the government and private citizens do seek to destroy Christianity. I am certain he would be willing to share some stories of what he saw in the middle east and agree what the ACLU is doing wouldn't destroy the practicing of Christianity, just place it squarely in the private arena. Further, without winning their cases, based on US Laws and procedures, nothing would happen besides a few donors wasting their money. The fact that they win these cases reflects our society's current views on religion. Can we expect less when most people are not outraged by Janet Jackson's "wardrobe malfunction" or the Howard Stern show? I have also seen where ACLU's attention has increased the outward appearance of Christianity. Wauconda's nativity scene and cross was removed from the city hall back in the late 80s or early 90s. Last time I was in Wauconda, hundreds of residents had erected hundreds of crosses on their property. Score one for the big Guy. From one of the town square, to hundreds on roofs, in backyards, and hopefully in their hearts.

QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Jan 21, 2005 -> 08:38 PM) I know of a REAL hot mom. Luckily I'm also married to her. sorry...dorky...I know... Most every adjective I was going to use would get me suspended I'm kidding. It's nice to know that someone's wife is intersted in what he posts.

My son turned 16 and is driving more. Scary, scary, time for me. Every car crash really hits home now.

Nuke, is your position that is this was a conservative group and a member was constantly criticizing the administration, they would encourage him or fire him? Didn't the Republican Party and the NRA dump James Brady when he started campaigning for gun law reforms and more restrictions?

QUOTE(LowerCaseRepublican @ Jan 21, 2005 -> 08:16 PM) At least she didn't give the kids crack yes, she did, the article said they had sex . . .

QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Jan 21, 2005 -> 08:16 PM) Not the point at all. Last week you people spent an entire evening lecturing me about what a great champion of free speech the ACLU is but now, it seems, that one of their own board members can't speak his own mind and dare to not tow the party line without getting himself in hot water. Of course that's alright with you guys though. Hypocrites is what they are. I cannot remember a time when the ACLU argued that atheists should be allowed on Church Boards, that Catholics should be allowed to be Rabbis, or that Liberals should be on the Republican board. Organizations have a right to set membership standards that reflect their organization. If the board member doesn't support their views, he shouldn't be on the board. I don't see an hypocrisy there. I disagree with the ACLU's positions on several of their cases, they biggest financial backers are far more liberal than I am. But I don't see it as being hypocritical that they want people whose views are aligned with the organization. And by the way, not every Liberal endorses the ACLU, just like only a portion of Conservatives endorse the Aryan Nation.

QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Jan 21, 2005 -> 08:05 PM) This assclown was a Marine too. What a dirty son of a b****. Way to disgrace the corps asshole! http://www.cnn.com/2005/US/01/21/woman.abducted/index.html :headshake I'm going to bet there is a lot more to this story. Too bad the made for CourtTV version that will be spun isn't going to be the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth. Nuke, I'm not certain how much this disgraces the corps. I doubt his defense will be his CO told him to do it.
-
Once again Nuke hits the nail on the head. Conservatives, unlike liberals, agree on everything. All conservatives think the same and do not disagree about anything. From abortion (bad), to same sex marriage (very bad), to Howard Stern (the essence of evil), to Spongebob Squarepants (encourages homosexual behavior) they all agree.

As a parent who has seen this every summer for the last few years, I hope he wins. If the teachers want to make these assignments, then their ass better be available for help when the students need it. Of course they aren't. If the schools cannot teach the full curriculm in the normal school year, then there is a problem. Instead, last summer I listened to my daughter stress for two months that her 8th grade year was already ruined before it started because she couldn't complete an assignment.

QUOTE(winodj @ Jan 21, 2005 -> 05:01 PM) The bones freak me out because they are so jagged and unlike chicken bones. I had horse a couple times. When my father was growing up piss poor in France it was the meat the poor people could afford. Now its a delicacy. It's actually quite good. And good for you too. I am no longer worried about the French taking over the world. Ooops, check that. I still am not worried about the French taking over the world.
