  4. Could it be that almost no one cared if they played or not? Watching mass career and business suicide was kind of fun to watch for a little while.

  6. QUOTE(LowerCaseRepublican @ Jan 26, 2005 -> 10:49 AM) Critic makes me laugh my ass off 8 ways from Sunday all the time with his posts. LCR makes me think. Always well thought out opinions, backed as much as possible by good sources.
  7. I've seen that dog before . . .
  8. QUOTE(The Critic @ Jan 26, 2005 -> 10:38 AM) "Rye'm Ro Rasted...."
  9. "I said HAIR of the dog, not the whole damn thing"
  10. QUOTE(mreye @ Jan 26, 2005 -> 09:52 AM) I can't help but think of Ray Stevens' "The Streak." LOL
  11. That's a great comparison. I believe consistency is going to be the defining factor in this season. What you pay for when you hire a superstar is consistency. By the season end you know A-Rods going to hit .300. Year to year will be pretty much consistent. The second tier has flashes of greatness, followed by periods of mediocrity. Just like our power was inconsistent, speed on the basepaths is inconsistent if the players aren't getting on base.
  12. QUOTE(mreye @ Jan 26, 2005 -> 09:15 AM) I heard this on the radio this morning. Prayers to their familes and all those who have lost. Add mine. How much is it worth to the US to have Democracy in Iraq? $100,000,000,000 and 10,000 dead? What price is too much?
  13. I know the level of play is very good, I think the best description in AAAA level. I'm wondering about the other issues that effect North American baseball like steroid use, big $$$$ vs. small $ teams, and that sort of thing that may determine the intangibles in switching.
  14. I was reading the Thread title "Man discovered alive in morgue" and thinking, aren't all the workers alive?
  15. QUOTE(Steff @ Jan 26, 2005 -> 09:18 AM) Me. And when I make that decision I expect it to be followed. Most people don't put it in writing unfortunately.
  16. On one hand a husband who stand to inherit the money and is free to marry his girlfriend without losing his status as guardian? On the other, parents who conceived and raised her. Who do you want making the decision regarding your life?

    You puff.. yer out!

    QUOTE(mreye @ Jan 26, 2005 -> 09:02 AM) I don't know about this. Couldn't they refuse health coverage? This gets to probable cause. If they are not costing the company any additional money. No extra sick days, not taking longer breaks, etc. they shouldn't be asked to take any test after they are hired.
  18. OMG That's a nightmare scenario. he survives and meets the guy that zipped the bag.
  19. QUOTE(mreye @ Jan 26, 2005 -> 09:01 AM) I would teach them how to make change without a cash register. Frickin' morons! That would be a good thing.
  20. QUOTE(mreye @ Jan 26, 2005 -> 08:46 AM) Don't speak too quickly. Some people don't buy lottery tickets until it gets over $200 Mil. I assume if you are the one to collect the reward, you basically are getting the money for your survivors, if any.
  21. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Jan 26, 2005 -> 08:48 AM) After grade school, the school year should be year round, with 2 weeks vacation. Get them ready for the real world. We see a lot of recent College grads and all they do is b**** and moan about work and staying late or putting in Saturdays. How would we pay for year round school? In Texas, when it's 104 outside, do you expect the schools to just open windows? Would you ask teachers to work the additional time without an increase in pay? Would each grade level last one year? With an extra 2-3 months per year, we would add 24-36 months of instruction, what else would you teach in the extra 2 1/2 to 3 1/3 "traditional school years" of instruction? Instead of the current 12 years of education, the equivelent would be 15 to 16 years of instruction.
  22. QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Jan 25, 2005 -> 04:54 PM) All egotistical individualists please leave. I sick & tired of hearing this crap. You are nothing but a burden to the system. You are nothing but a burden to the tax payers. If you do not believe in democracy go to Europe or better yet to China. Democracy means majority rule. The school board represents the majority in that district. You as an individual have a right to be heard by the school district. That is where your power & influence ends. The only way this crap is going to end is if national & state congresses pass nuisance laws that costs these egotists $ when they place a burden on the courts with their frivolous suits. These same congresses should decide what constitutes a frivolous suit. There are laws on the books to address frivolous suits and attorneys can face disciplinary actions for bringing suits without merit. We have an extensive legal system because we have so many rights that need protection. Plus, there are checks and balances throughout our legal and judicial system. For example if a school board's policies are illegal, the courts are the place to go, not Europe. I would be surprised if this didn't start with the School itself and move up from there. If all suits could be decided on their merits before trial, we wouldn't need courts, attorneys, and judges. Putting a system of punishments in place to penalize the losing side goes against our freedoms and impedes justice, not enhances.
  23. QUOTE(CrimsonWeltall @ Jan 25, 2005 -> 08:38 PM) If we're going to have sex offender lists like this, shouldn't we have murderer, armed robber, assault lists too? It's partially the rehabilitation angle. Many experts will line up and say that sex is a basic instinct and no amount of therapy, or time in prison, is going to alter their sexual blueprint. Statistically, research has shown that a murderer is less likely to commit a new crime than a sex offender. Which circles back to my question, if they are still a threat, why do we let them out? And if they are believed to not be a threat, why publish their names for ever?
  24. I find the Pats a whole lot more likable for some reason.
