QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Jan 11, 2005 -> 01:03 AM) So a film that plays fast and loose with the facts and actually had the opposite effect that it was intended to have is now film of the year according to these idiots huh? More reason why the so-called experts are totally out to lunch on what constitutes a good movie. Nuke, Star Wars insn't real either, and there wasn't really a Napolean Dynamite. Movies can be fiction. Godfather was a great movie by most peoples standards. Was the intent of the film to glorify or demonize organized crime? If it was to demonize, would the film then suck because it had the opposite effect? Notice it wasn't nominated as a documentary. This movie was not a journalistic or historical portrayal. Just like Rush is entertainent and doesn't have to stick to facts, either do the movies. Major Payne didn't ride in and save that Military Academy and Bill Murray wasn't in the Army.

QUOTE(qwerty @ Jan 10, 2005 -> 11:23 PM) Wtf? In my humble and often ignored opinion
  3. QUOTE(YASNY @ Jan 10, 2005 -> 11:11 PM) If their targetted clientelle is "Jr. Republicans" then I can see why they'd want their employees to reflect that. But your buddy sounds a bit like George Steinbrenner to me. Not even close. It's the cheapest camp of this sort in Texas. I used Jr. Republicans trying to think of another youth group that would convey the image he's trying to get. Perhaps Mormom Missionaries may have set the image. Like I said these kids are going to net about $250 for the month. For that they will work Sunday through Saturday at the camp.
  4. QUOTE(3E8 @ Jan 10, 2005 -> 09:54 PM) I wish they had those when I was in high school.........and dating. I have a lot of cool memories of the Grayslake Drive-In. Some of them confirm what a dork I was/am.
  5. QUOTE(Molto @ Jan 10, 2005 -> 09:48 PM) I don't see a problem with it. I mean, I think the guy is an idiot, but what is wrong with having employees dress and look a certain way? he wants to potray this camp in a certain way ... nothing wrong with it in my mind. Yeah, I can see your point. You have to keep in mind this Camp pays about $85 per week to the 16 year old staff, you live in cement open wall cells with a metal roof, string some hammocks and mosquito netting to sleep. No privacy. The staff was bad three years ago and down hill from there. Their approach is to have the kids cut their hair?? I agree it's probably a good lesson for the kids to learn, but at what expense? A well groomed, but incompetent staff?
  6. QUOTE(Soxnbears01 @ Jan 10, 2005 -> 09:37 PM) just got back from my trip to canada. they say 'eh' alot. : Yah hey der, did you have a Molsen over by der?

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jan 10, 2005 -> 09:47 PM) Not true, I remember watching without a paddle with a nice buzz at the movie theatres thinking it would be hillarious...not so. All of us just stared blank at the screen utterly dissapointed. We figured drinking would be wise just in case it sucked...boy were we wrong. Another movie that would be that bad is Club Dread. I watched like 10 minutes of it on one of the movie channels the other day and good god did it suck. Thanks for the warning. I was just telling my son we needed to see it. He thought I was wacked. I pointed out he rented Nap Dynomite and Without a Paddle looks 100X funnier, even without a sweet jump . . .
  8. QUOTE(Goldmember @ Jan 10, 2005 -> 09:30 PM) only a couple seconds but still kinda cool... http://www.my-serendipity.net/videos/Episo.../duelforweb.mov Gee it looks like every other Star Wars laser fight I've seen.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jan 9, 2005 -> 01:33 PM) Rented Shaolin Soccer. Very funny movie. Its like an asian kunf foo spoof or something. I don't know how to explain it, but we were all laughing while watching it. Anything is funny with the proper chemicals . . .

    Farenheit

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jan 10, 2005 -> 09:38 PM) Gimme a freaking break. On the viewers choice yesterday they gave Farnheit 9/11 film of the year. Not documentary of the year, film of the year. I can't freaking believe that drivel got film of the year. I know the left side will disagree with me, but its a given that his documentaries are filled with erroneous bulls***. Maybe its just me and my hatred for CBS, but since it aired on CBS I wonder if they had any say in this at all. I guess it had to be the fact that Hollywood tends to be more left, but I can't possibly believe that the people (I don't know how the voting process works) would of picked this as film of the year. I mean, was it better then Ray??? where Jamie Foxx did a flipping outstanding job. OMG, Jas started a thread. Mark your calendars Documentary would imply it was factual, and I do not believe it was. As you noted too many undocumented and/or hard to prove opinions IMHAOIO to be a documentary. I thought the directing, production values, and ability to produce strong emotions made it an excellent film, even thought, as lefty as I am, I did not agree with much of the content.
  11. We could always use a power hitting DH. I hope he's slow. What is really surprising is why it took almost a month to decide? Imagine what this gene pool must have looked like.
  12. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Jan 10, 2005 -> 07:31 PM) It's histerical to quote with people. YOURE MOM GOES TO COLLEGE! It would make a great midnight movie like Rocky Horror. What happened to midnight movies? I cannot remember the last movie theater that offered them. And Drive-Ins. I'll bet there are a bunch of you youngins that have never been to a drive in movie.

    Flintlock Rifles

Anyone here have any experience with flintlock rifles? I am busy selling my bass boat and the guy wants to toss in a flintlock rifle, the kind where the flint comes down making a spark and igniting the powder. I think they are cool but have zero idea what a replica (I'm certain it's a replica) would be worth. I've googled and there are so many different ones, some can be fired, some cannot. I wonder if there is a way to tell which is which. What components wear out first, etc.
  14. Nice up north buck. [emotion=envy]Of course with his money my bet is he's on a guided hunt, on a private reserve, with a ton of support. Kind of like the guys dropping down from the sky in their private jets to attend hunts on the King Ranch. [/envy]

    Ignore Feature

QUOTE(Yoda @ Jan 10, 2005 -> 08:18 PM) IMO, Moderators shouldn’t even ignore a user. What if that person you ignored is causing some sort of trouble? You wouldn’t even know about it! We have discussed this at length and decided as long as we all know who is ignoring who we will be ok. Plus problem posts are usually quoted. We will reverse if it is a problem.

  17. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Jan 10, 2005 -> 07:00 PM) The burden of proof is definitely on the Sox at this point. This could be an interesting season. I think the Tigers will be even stronger and the Royals could rebound, and of course Cleveland could get hot. I can't wait until the 40 game mark and see who's contendin and who's pretendin.
  18. QUOTE(SEALgep @ Jan 10, 2005 -> 06:41 PM) He could turn out to be a decent DH option as well. I don't know why some people are getting down about this kid. It was a PBTN, who you'd think we were going to get? Looking at how lopsided the trade was, it could have come from AAA. Someone mentioned this is looking more and more like a salary dump. I am beginning to agree.
  19. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Jan 10, 2005 -> 06:27 PM) Played behind Prince Fielder=destroys that theory. Prince was one of the most talked about prospects in Brewers history. Who knows what Travis will pan out too, but please don't play the age card. Now, in the Sox organization, he'll have virtually no pressure and can develop at his own pace. He'll be given every opportunity to succeed. Rotoworld seems to think we did alright with this PTBNL, I'm with them. He was behind more than Fielder. The stuck behind works at AAA, or possibly AA, not at High A. We'll forget about him by Wednesday and if he makes a MLB roster, it will be a neat trivia fact.
  20. The other thing that is ironic is one of the most respected volunteers wears a pony tail. I doubt he asked him to cut it. I had long hair in high school and college. In fact when I was running cross country if I didn't feel the cadence of my hair hitting my shoulder during the 880, I couldn't run.
  21. He was drafted in '01 I wonder if he played college ball somewhere. I couldn't find any college stats.
  22. QUOTE(EvilMonkey @ Jan 10, 2005 -> 06:00 PM) Tex, not trying to start a fight, but did he say he wanted them to be 'junior republicans', or just that he didn't like funky haircuts? Yeah, camp counselor seems like a position where a hairstyle wouldn't matter much, unless maybe the kids attending came from more conservative families, and he thought THEY would have an aversion to long hair, mohawks, hair dyed blue, etc. I am just wondering if by his use of the term 'conservative' to describe hairstyles, you are reading too much into it. Maybe, maybe not. Just askin'. The issue is I think it is insulting to my kid. I dodn't take conservative to mean in the political context. He wants to see kids with very short hair styles. He also asked me to inform one of my assistants to remove his earing around the kids. I refused. He said "conservative hairstyles and dress" in the email. He has on two occasions specifically told my son he should cut his hair. My son passed his Eagle Scout board of review with that hair. The kids are coming from all over the area, mostly working poor to middle class. The resident camp costs $140 for the week. The camp has had declining enrollment each year because of the quality of the staff's instruction and the quality of the facilities and food. I have sat in literally dozens of meetings on why Units aren't using the facility for summer camp and the appearance of the camp staff has never been mentioned once. My son's hair is barely past his ears, not even near his shoulder, and not in his eyes except when wet. This guy wears his hair in a crew cut, has a full beard, and a big chew between the cheek and gum. (to his credit, never around the kids) The issue is more if someone says I won't hire anyone like this or that and this and that describes your child, would you be pissed? I'm taking a general comment and making it personal.
  23. Basically a friend of mine mentioned for an upcoming summer project he wouldn't be hiring any kids who didn't have a conservative haircut. My son happens to have long hair. This guy was probably not thinking specifically about my son when he made the remark but I got pissed (gee big surprise from Tex) and told him off. These kids would be camp counselors for a month, earning sub minimum wage, living in crappy accomodations, eating mass cooked camp food, and putting up with 100+ degree heat. And he wants them to by little Jr. Republicans going off to a summer internship :headshake
