QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jan 11, 2005 -> 11:05 AM) We do buy a 1/4 cow every year now from a local butcher/friend of the family. The taste of unprocessed beef is sooooo much better than the crap you get at the supermarket. unprocessed? how?

Red Sox & White Sox Trades???
QUOTE(YASNY @ Jan 11, 2005 -> 11:03 AM) I remember that Beltran specifically expressed his objections to playing in NY. Yet, he's in NY. Boras has a way of manipulating players into signing for the most money, regardless of their personal desires. Not too difficult for a good salesman I guess. But it allows Boras to tell the next guy, "Look what I got for him....." I guess some people could be intimidated by Boras. I wonder if Beltran made that statement as part of a carefully scripted Boras ploy to get more money out of the Mets? Really meant the Bankees? Really meant it? I would want the potential for winning, stadium suiting my playing ability, and a couple other things weighed into the equation, but very few players seem to.

Red Sox & White Sox Trades???
QUOTE(YASNY @ Jan 11, 2005 -> 10:57 AM) Honestly, no. I think I'd be leaning toward an agent that listened more to what I had to say than what the union and Boras' bank book says. You don't hear his clients complaining. In the end he does work for you. You can control who you sign with. There seems to be a right of passage in being his client. You reach some All-Star dividing line and he seemingly has everybody signed. I wonder what the reality is behind the public image? I know I would not want some father figure patron saint telling me what to do.

Red Sox & White Sox Trades???
QUOTE(YASNY @ Jan 11, 2005 -> 10:48 AM) Figuratively speaking of course. Seriously, if you were a superstar player, wouldn't you want Boras negotiating your contract? Say what you will about him, he gets some deals for his players. If you got the bucks, step into his showroom. Who has represented more Hall of Fame bound clients?

Will Brett Favre win another playoff game?
No, but not Favre's fault.

Anyone grown their own?
I was just sitting here enjoying some fresh squeezed OJ from my tree and thinking about the whole earth bounty, back to nature movement that fizzled out. I still grow some citrus and herbs, but no more vegetables. I'm thinking about digging up some area and getting started.

Lee trade completed.
QUOTE(YASNY @ Jan 11, 2005 -> 10:35 AM) I can see both sides of this debate. There is certainly some validation to the point that Carlos Lee was worth more than we received from Milwaukee. There is also the very valid point that we also "got" Hernandez and Pierzynski as a result of this trade. Taking into consideration the stuff that came out about Carlos immediately after the trade, perhaps KW decided to strike before the stuff leaked out and lowered his trade value. Perhaps it came out only because the trade had been made. We don't know about all that. So, basically, we don't have all the information to make an informed, intelligent judgement about the trade. All in all, it looks pretty damn good for us at this point and that's about all, as fans, we can expect. As trades go it wasn't unreasonable. I just expected a top 15 prospect, possibly a pitcher. Teams now practically reinvent themselves each year and forgetting the past is almost manditory. I feel a dump everyone and sign free agents mood this off season.

Would you be pissed?
QUOTE(mreye @ Jan 11, 2005 -> 10:34 AM) I know that sound. When I was in 8th grade at our conference meet, I was the #1 seed and was leading going into the last 100. I finished 3rd. :puke My coach was laughing so hard he almost wet his pants when he saw me standing there looking like WTF. This guy was so obviously the better runner. This guy finished 1 in the state, and was just incredible. I watched him destroy the competition in the Regional meet. The only think that moved was his legs. He just floated once he got out of the blocks. My biggest thorn in the side was a fellow by the name of JC who beat me in our conference 880 by about 5 yards. He had a go out fast and burn everyone out strategy and I preferred the hang on the shoulder of a slow pace and kick. I gave him too much room and couldn't catch him. He also finished just ahead of me in the mile and in the county cross country meet. I wound up with a locker next to his in college

QUOTE(mreye @ Jan 11, 2005 -> 10:23 AM) Our cross country course was at a Monestary. I didn't break any records. I did hold the Junior High 400 record for 3 years. I thought I could run the 440. Then a relay at Waukegan East proved otherwise. I was run down and whipped. I took a 15 yard lead and turned it into a 30 yard loss. As I was runrunrunrunrunrunrunrunrunrunrunrunrunrunrunrunrunrunrunrunrunrunrunrun I could hear woosh whoosh whoosh whooshwhooshwhooshwhoosh whoosh whoosh and he was gone

Lee trade completed.
QUOTE(YASNY @ Jan 11, 2005 -> 10:21 AM) Just consider who we were trading with. Money was not an option, I'm sure. A better prospect should have been doable. Perhaps someone off AA or AAA not High A would have made this closer IMHO. What I like the most about this team is the pitching and having a decent potential lead off guy. Downside, we overpaid for that.

QUOTE(mreye @ Jan 11, 2005 -> 10:12 AM) 880? You're showing your age there, Tex. Coolest thing. A couple years after I graduated they converted to metric. AFAIK, I hold the school's 880 record 1:54, the 1 mile record 4:33, and part of the 4x880 Relay records for now until enternity. I also hold the old Cross Country course record. and unless they tear down that subdivision, it will be mine forever So I got dat goin' for me . . .

QUOTE(YASNY @ Jan 11, 2005 -> 09:52 AM) My point is that he tried to mislead the public and affect the election with bulls***. Whether he accomplished or not is moot. Michael Moore is lower than shark s***, imho. I can't say I disagree with that assessment. If I was in charge of politics, I'd toss him out in the first purge. But Moore is a different animal than his film. There are actors and athletes whose personal life and ethics are different than mine. However, it doesn't prevent me from seeing their work and appreciating it, even paying to see it. Seinfeld is still funny even though Jerry tossed aside his wife for the babysitter. Annie Hall is still brilliant even though Woody Allen and Diane Keaton are a couple of nut jobs. Best example, is Jackson's performances any less deserving of their Grammy Awards? A lot more than Moore is in that film. I'll bet a GOPer or two snuck in.- Farenheit
QUOTE(YASNY @ Jan 11, 2005 -> 09:45 AM) OK ... Marketing had something to do with it. I give you that. As for your other question, if he was a RWN ... Yes, he probably would have twisted and misrepresented that point of view as well. And then maybe Kerry would have won. I do think Moore cost Kerry votes, not gained any. The GOP did an excellent job of deflecting and then turning around those attacks. I cannot think of a bad misstep that W and his campaign made. Compare the GOP deflecting Moore vs. the Kerry campaign dealing with the Swift Boat vets and many a political science paper will be written. At the core is profit margin. The swift boat guys had millionaires lined up to spend millions on ads, tours, etc. Moore had millionaires lined up to make millions. Americans don't like profit in opinion.- Farenheit
QUOTE(YASNY @ Jan 11, 2005 -> 09:36 AM) You specualte about that all you want. That scenario didn't occur. Moore trying to pass this off as a documentary during an election did occur. It has nothing to do with marketing and everything to do with politics. I am not 100% disagreeing with you on the politics but I believe it was secondary to artistic and career matters. You don't think he wanted to sell tickets to his movie? I think it had everything to do with his career as a film maker and making gobs of money. The storm of controversy, the notoriety, the selling of tickets allows his next film to be produced. Do you disagree if he was a Right Wing Nut he would have made something about the Swift Boat vets? I think his professional drive would stay the same, his style would stay the same, just the material would change.- Farenheit
QUOTE(YASNY @ Jan 11, 2005 -> 09:21 AM) Whatever was submitted to the Academy is irrelevent. He tried to pass it off to the public as a documentary. I agree that passing it off as a documentary was wrong. I just believe each film, song, painting, essay, etc. should be judged on it's own merits, without explanations without gaining or losing points from marketing and "intent". If Moore would have been a Right Wing Nut instead of a Left Wing Nut imagine the Swift Boat film we would have seen. A little kid in his jammies being gunned down while holding a lolly pop.- Farenheit
QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Jan 11, 2005 -> 09:15 AM) I didn't think so... as long as it had a theatrical release that preceded the DVD release. I could be wrong though. I thought there was discussions months ago that Moore, who has control of the movie, refused to submit it as a documentary, only as a film.
