SS reform thread.......
What exactly do you mean by that? Do you mean we will just stop sending checks? We will not pay $1 to any retirees? What do you see for retirees in 2010, 2020, etc.? I believe we can provide retirement help for all citizens. I believe we can provide enought to keep someone from starving or freezing to death. Can they play golf 4 times a week, and take an Alaskan cruise? Nope, not fully funded by their SS checks.

A Must read for GOPers!
BTW, since we are discussing beheadings. I recently read that there is a black market business in these kidnappings. The guys that actually kidnap the person sells the person for $X and then they move again for $X+, on up the line. The ones doing the snatching and reselling are not motivated by religous views, they are motivated by greed and easy money. Many of these people are just criminals. We do not think of most crimes in this country as being committed by religous extremists. Last year 599 people were murdered in Chicago. Were any of these religous fanatics? If this was Iraq and not Chicagp, how would we view these murders?

A Must read for GOPers!
There is nothing inheritly wrong with comparing one thing to another. In a comparison such as this, we noted the differences. Comparing doesn't always default to similarities. One could compare Valentin's contribution to baseball with Hawking's to physics. We would find one is grossly different than the other. We could also compare Lee's and Konerko's contributions to the Sox and find a great deal of similarities. I believe you mean that drawing a conclusion that both are equally the same in evil deeds is wrong. I like your analogy regarding the KKK. Extremism, to anything is usually unhealthy. Check and balance works.

SS reform thread.......
It's a good number, I was just wondering if you were offering some government guarantee. My concern is this will place SS squarely as the main and only retirement planning even more people make. I prefer a solution where SS is the insurance if your other planning fails. I believe when SS becomes your main focus, you will not have as nice a retirement as one would expect. So since it is the place of last resort, I prefer to see less risk than letting people chose which companies to bet on.

4 million emails a day
Technically speaking, isn't spam already cooked? LMAO at who the lucky target is. Some would call it SPAM, some would call it customer service calls from people staring at the blue screen of death.

I wonder if they also aired Saving Private Ryan and risked that fine.

SS reform thread.......
If you are going to limit it to a number of mutual funds, why not just require the government to invest in those same funds? How are you coming up with a worse you can do is 5%? Who is going to give the US Government Seal of Approval on the Mutual Funds? Could you imagine the other funds sitting by and accepting that? Could you imagine companies that would be left out, via a government fund, sitting idly by? Can you imagine what happens when big campaign contributor is in and no campaign contributor in the same industry is left out? Why not invest in the US Government via bonds?

No Boras stance exposes cheap Sox
If Jay was a poster here, you'd be praising him to the heavans for that post. If you build computers, you cannot tell Intel to go screw themelves, and if you want to win a WS you cannot tell the biggest agent in baseball to go screw himself. And as far as overbid/underbid, whenever you sign a free agent you overbid and all the other teams underbid. It's like an auction, the high bidder is the team that spends the most. Sometimes you guess right and the player turns out to be a bargain, other times you guess wrong and he's a dud.

NBC Says Marine Shot Dead Wounded Iraqi Prisoner
Beheading the guy to send a message would have been nice, or possible checking the wounded soldier for a weapon and treating his injuries like all civilized countries have agreed to do. We wouldn't be defending this if we were watching this on Arab TV and showing a wounded American soldier being shot, and I cannot see a way to defend this without being very hypocritical.

SS reform thread.......
First off neither party wants to see SS fail. Both parties know it is the key to the vote of an aging population and will pander to whatever will get them elected. The best quote I've heard regarding politics and SS is it is the "third rail of American politics". Fundemental truths about retirement planning, no matter who controls it. You need income + profit = enough money People are living longer and dying in a more expensive manner People are staying healthier and productive longer No matter who administers your plan, the government by investing in US Debt, or you by investing in the stock market, etc. you need interest and profits on your money. The principle isn't enough. You want investements? The US government spent over $400 Billion more than we took in last year. We pay interest on that money. Our SS $$ are invested in that debt and when it is repaid, your contribution is multiplied. It is one of the few pluses to our innability to control expenses while not lowering taxes. The biggest risk I see in giving people control of their accounts is the question of what do to if their investments fail to pan out. There is no other backup. Social Security should be considered like unemployment insurance, a backup plan, not the main plan. Use SS as part of a balanced approach. Focus on your 401k and other investments, and use SS as a backup.

Bowling
My league high was a 252 on a night when the other team didn't show. It was mixed doubles and the other guy on the team told me to slow down and sandbag a little since we had won. I told him A. I don't cheat B. This is my best game ever. In gym class a buddy rolled 7 straight strikes to start a game but we ran out of time and had to leave. I heard he later rolled quite a few 300 games and is a house pro at some lanes. Three hundred is awesome. The ABA use to come out and certify them and hand out awards.

Really really great!
Once again your faith in Americans is truly inspiring. I would think with the GOP in control you would feel great about SS. Or then again maybe you are more realistic about the GOP than I thought. One of the things I am still amazed is how negative the GOP is about America being successful at anything.

Nice to see you have such high regard for America's abilities to do anything but kill and destroy.

A Must read for GOPers!
LOL, how stupid is that when the GOP is moving the jobs south, not north. Now that the liberal, American job loving, unions lost, business owners can screw high US wages, say Si! to Mexico. By the way, thank you, the second company since 11/2 has anounced plans to move to or expand in Reynosa, Mexico. I am starting to really love a pro-business, spanish speaking president. As a matter of fact, Evil, have you thought of excaping those high salaries and high taxes and relocting to the border? Mexico has a booming high tech and design industry with workers from Mexico and India available for half of what they cost in the US. You can live in a nice gated community not far from Mexico, it's a quick car drive across the border now that Bush's administration has sped up border crossings, no worse than a Schaumburg to Chicago. The workers all learn English at an early age so you will not have a language barrier. 3,500 sq foot homes on 1 acre lots with swimming pools sell for under $200,000. A live in maid will set you back about $80-$100 per week and no more cooking, cleaning, laundry, etc. edit: I changed not to now. Sorry for the typo, I did want to give Bush credit for making my life, and all maquila workers, easier.

After the GOPsters get rid of the Judicial and Press, who will offer the check and balance? Or are you willing to just trust whatever the f*** the GOP wants to do? And most politicians will tell you that once you have been declared the victor, your supporters do not come out. Calling the election for Gore HURT his chances not Bush. There was no need in Florida for Gore supporters to vote, which probably swung the election to Bush. Look at the west coast numbers during Reagans landslide in 84. Dems picked up seats in the west when GOP voters stayed home after knowing Reagan won. edited to add: I told the exit interviewer I voted for Nadar lying all the way. Exit interviews are always skewed. Plus, from my years as an election judge in Illinois, woman vote early in the day and men later, so it would be normal for more women to have voted during regular business hours. More women are stay at home types then men. The men typically vote after work.
