One of the interesting developments in the 20th Century was the explosion of technology in the field of communications. Unlike the 18th Century, for example, the later half of the 20th is documented in a wide variety of medias. Movies, and the sub-genre documentaries are just one of those medias. In a sense, docudramas are a new art form, a mixture of fact, opinion, and fiction. Time will tell how they are judged. I wonder how 23rd Century humankind will judge America 2004 based on the surviving records. Will they look at a DVD and wonder how we could be so primitive? Just like we look at stone tools and wonder how they survived.

As I was reading an opinion piece that pointed out, again, that Kerry has voted against any increases in miltary spending, I got a thought. Why not amend the constitution to stop Congress from voting on military spending? With the war on terror and everything else, shouldn't we just give the military everything they think they need? Why subject the military to the idiots in congress that know nothing about running a military. The rest of the money can be used for the other government programs.

Perhaps saying Bush should act isn't 100% accurate. The US is the alpha-leader in the UN. An all out effort to influnce the UN has not been taken and I believe it has not because we are in an election year. I would hope that this adminstration will take a more active role in this starting in about 2 weeks. I know it is difficult for a lame duck President to make major policy shifts, but he should and he should have the backing of both parties. If he is re-elected, then even more reasons to do the right thing. I was going to write before it is too late, but sadly it already is too late for 70,000 people.

I hope he had some good porn stored on his hard drive, since he wasn't getting any.

By not cutting taxes We are at time quick to help those in other countries and can somehow ignore those around us. A hungary Iraqi receives aid if he stays in Iraq, nothing if he travels 7,000 miles to the aid and moves in next door.

I do not know the health history of the guy in Monkey's neighborhood. Maybe the drugs caused the mental illness, maybe he was mentaly ill and tried to self medicate. I believe it is foolish to try and diagnose someone without the skills or information necessary. We voted in leaders who said they would expand Social Security and they did. Social Security Insurance covers a wide array of situations that take individuals out of the workforce. I do not think it was neccessary to create a new government agency when the benefits could be adminstred through an existing agency. Those that disagree with SS payments to disabled people should vote in candidates who will cut benefits. I do not like the vision of America after we stopped payments to all the crack heads and closed the government run treatment programs. I do not see those addicts all donning suits and heading down to the office. I see a tremendous rise in crime, the building of more prisons, and individuals being housed for crimes, instead of treatment for mental illness. Either way we pay. I believe sociaties are best judged by how well the least among them live, not how well the best live. If we judge the society from the top down, Iraq looked very good. No social expenditures for the drug addicts there. Everyman for himself didn't work for the caveman. If it did, we wouldn't have evolved into complex societies. Not everyone takes advantage of all the government programs, but we all take advantage of some. Vegetarians do not benefit from meat inspections, retirees are not sending their kids to schools. Some people only seem to be in favor of the benefits they use. Military, good roads, police and fire, etc. They cannot see the benefits of a greater society. During the Great Depression, millions of Americans saw their net worth skyrocket. Great fortunes were made in buying assets for pennies on the dollar. Some would have proposed no government programs for the starving, let their families take care of them, this is working fine. The could say "look how well these people are doing, why can't you be more like them?" Sadly, some people do not mind the misfortune of others and can watch that. I cannot. Call me a bleeding heart, think of me as soft, but I believe my government, the greatest country on the planet now and has ever been, can care for the less fortunate around us. That is our legacy to humankind and one I would be proud of. I would not be proud to say my country turned it's back on the citizens in need and let them live in cardboard boxes on street corners.
-
Yes, his family should. He should also be getting treatment for his problems. But our society has decided we would offer him a safety net and keep people from starving on the streets. We've decided that treatment is better than punishment, that keeping desperate people from knocking you over the head I know you're a bad ass and can walk past the starving people that winodj and I can not. Bravo! You would love living in thrid world countries where they do let them starve. Why the f*** should anyone without kids in the schools pay for your education? WHy the f*** should someone who doesn't use the fire department pay for some one else using the fire department? Why the f*** should someone who doesn't drive pay for roads?

Let me try this again. If the goal of the system is to stop a couple countries from waging an unjust war over the objection of many, it is a great system for accomplishing that task with that premise. Unfortunately, the same system that makes it difficult to do the wrong thing, also makes it impossible to do the right thing over a couple countries objections. The UN is set up to make taking action very difficult. Like the US judicial system that gives every break to the accused, the UN system is as close to assuring that any action that is taken is only taken after all other options have been tried at least three times. When the UN does take military action, it is clearly the correct course. Just like when someone is convicted in the US, we can damn well be assured they are guilty. And just like the US judicial system that allows OJ free to search for Nicole's and Ron's killer, the UN sometimes lets some bad things happen. Why isn't Bush acting?

Cut off his aid, he'll stops hearing voices, get a nice job, possibly a school teacher or airline pilot, and becomes a productive member of society. No way he starts robbing little old ladies for their pension checks or breaking into your house. And if he does attack a little old lady, we can lock him up in a prison. Cheaper way to go. That billion is in the economy creating jobs. If we didn't give it out in error, we would have had to find another way to spend it.
-
Same principle, the UN would be shooting at the oppressors who are whites, and the US doesn't like to do that. When was the last time we waged war against white people?
-
As could the US, France, or Britian on a permanent basis. Then you have the two year termers like Algeria, Benin, Brazil, Philippines, Germany, Romania, and a couple others. A tiny country like Benin could stop action as well. The U.N. has a great system for making certain that a few countries interests do not wage an unjust war. The down side is that same system also allows a few countries to stop action that clearly must be taken.
-
But this administration has already shown they will take unilateral action, without UN permission. That shouldn't be the excuse. Even it did go through the U.N., we wind up borrowing money to pay for the action. It's not like we have a budget surplus to deal with. So China, etc. votes no to U.N. actions then loans us money to do it ourselves. Nice deal. Bush doesn't want to take action in Sudan and Kerry is using Iraq as an excuse why he will not take action, so whomever wins, the genocide continues
-
Too bad we are too tied up in Iraq to do anything. As it is, we would be borrowing money 25% from some country like China) to go fight the war. Just once, I'd like to see some countries get together and solve this problem without US bloodshed and cost. At the minimum, how about another country covering the financial cost and we'll supply the men and equipment? In my heart I know if these were white victims, we'd have been there 60,000 victims ago.

The Rocket has not done well on short rest, I would rest him and pitch him in the biggest game in franchise history on full rest. Plus the Astros have a lot of momentum right now. Perhaps they could win one without Roger.

He was lights out for a couple innings. Looked very, very good. Then got into a little trouble. Nothing big, just a couple hits. As a starter giving up a run every 3 or 4 innings is awesome. As a reliever in an extra inning game, pitching the bottom of the innings, one run is one run too many. I still cannot get use to him with the Yankee facial hair.

Makes me feel proud to be a guy. It is never a female nurse telling a 92 year old man to take off the depends and let's party!"

Flash gives up the tying moon shot and Loiza gives up the game winner. I thought E-lo looked good for a couple innings. Too bad.

Interesting that you would think encouraging you to go to Temple and raise your children in your faith is a bad thing :headshake A couple thoughts I'd like to share. First from a Jewish couple after reading some of your posts. "He believes the world is out to destroy all Jews, that the world hates him. He has a built in excuse for any failure. Promotions, dating, even if he gets cut off on the Edens. Would you attend Temple if you think it is the cause for all your problems? He has the lowest opinion of what it is to be Jewish." The second from me, one of my favorite sermons when I am witnessing, involves people who are looking for salvation in a Christian Bokstore on a Thursday afternoon, instead of in Church on Sunday.
