I can understand that. We'll take the jobs down here when foreign investors are looking to open plants. Everyone of these included tax breaks to locate in their city. That's the name of the game in economic development. When San Antonio was competing for the Toyota plant there were three other cities in the final group.
  3. So what's your cat's screen name?
  4. When I first networked my house, my daughter sent me a IM from her room to being her water. Wireless networking is so cool.

  7. I guess I'm going to hell for that one
  8. But junk mail (bulk mail) serves an economic benefit to everyone. Junk mail keeps our mail costs down. I just went to my mailbox. 9 pieces of mail, 6 were bulk mail. About half the cost of coming to my mailbox was these advertisers. Take away the bulk mail and we would have some huge cost increases. SPAM is different. It increases our ISP costs, not decreasing them.

I think what really is being debated here is not favoratism, but credibility. Yes, some posters here, after making thousands of posts that have proven to be accurate, have less of a threshold to cross to be believed. Put another way. If Rex Hudler, 2003 Soxtalk Baseball Analyst of the Year, makes a statement about the Sox, I am going to believe it. He has thousands of credible posts. If someone making their second post states the same thing, I am going to be more wary of accepting it as fact. You may believe everyone equally, but most of the world doesn't. I would hope you have greater trust in what your best friend says compared to a total stranger. The check isn't always in the mail. And finally, in this specific case a body of evidence is starting to build. A. Among dozens of avid Sox fans, only you heard it. B. Google searches turn up nothing. C. Searces at the Tribune, Sun-Times, and Southtown turned up zero.
  10. Incomm Data and US Robotics were customers of mine. They manufactured modems right here in the good old USA. I dialed into bulleting board systems like The Well in California, running up some nasty long distance bills. I also remember being on GEnie, Prodigy, and AOL when Steve Case went over the 100,000 member mark. I have an old AOL t-shirt from their road trip promotion days. What a pain in the ass those days were. Configuring your modem based on where you were dialing. Tying up your phone line for hours, and 300 baud modems that would lose a connection with the slightest noise.

There would be some exceptions like wars and natural disasters. Currently we owe over $7 Trillion, much of that to foreign investors.

Are you talking about income tax or property taxes and business taxes? It is very common to offer businesses incentives to locate in your town. It is all about being competitive. Most of the Economic Development groups down here will offer land and tax abatements to get a business to move from cold, high wage areas like yours, to down here with our beautiful weather, low wages, and cheap taxes. Cook County Tax Board does not have anything to do with Federal Income Taxes.

The web cam has got to go. Gay or straight, that ain't working. The rest of the stuff is the usual rommy stuff. Believe it or not, and I didn't when it was explained to me, you are learning a huge lesson, even better than College Algebra. Getting along with a roomy that is 180 degrees different will help yoiu when you graduate. I think colleges try and mismatch roomys as much as they can.
  23. I have a ton of respect for those guys as well. They could have shrunk from public view and sunk into self pity. Instead they worked to advance their cause and in turn, are helping others.
