  1. That is only partially true. They have the widest range of services available for rebuilding a country and supporting the military. However a consortium could have been put together with 3 or 4 companies and completed the task. For whatever reason we made speed a key issue and wrote a bid that only Halliburton could win. Remember the lottery terminal fiasco in Illinoi 15 years ago or so? Bally Gaming (IL) Gen Data, and one other had the capability and expertise in the area. Then Gov. Thompson had the specs written so that only Bally would be able to offer a competitive bid. The state was sued and I believe it was Data General who won. Bally used it as an excuse to move to Nevada where people liked them.
  2. Halliburton is a worldwide player in the energy business. As such they are doing business with some not so ethical individuals in some not so ethical countries, and dealing with ethical norms that seem wrong by US standards. I am not so quick to condem the organization. Disclosure: They formerly were a very nice customer/client of mine.
  3. Congrats on 1,000 posts. Winodj

    realization

Every once in a while I use a dial up connection and stop complaining that RoadRunner crippled the speed from the beginning. They placed artificial restrictions on the connection speed so we wouldn't notice the slow down when the pipe filled.

    Debategate Part 2

I would love to find out how many attorneys it takes to have a Presidential debate? That plsu hair stylist, image guys and gals, political analists, etc. etc, etc.
  6. By the way Congratulations. Nice try, it was close.
  7. I gotta agree wit dat. Except it seemed like we went from EF Hutton to EF Nuttin in a blink of the eye.
  8. WHat an awesome game except for my &^^%# cable went out to start the bottom of the 9th. :fyou Time Warner. Came back in time to watch the next two strikeouts.
  9. Of course this was after we had figured Fisk was washed up as well.
  10. Oops, you wanted why. The Astros are about as close to a hometown team as I get. I've become a big Clemens fan, and love how they came back and played hard and won the wildcard. Cards because of Tony Larussa. Always liked him, wish he was still with the Sox. Red Sox have suffured long enough, and it would piss off the Yankees more than anyone else. Twins because it will destroy that team chemistry when the egos come out and management doesn't show the proper respect (money) and give us a chance. Negatives: Dodgers have won enough. Ditto the Yankees. Ditto the Braves. Neutral: Angels would be intersting. I'm nit certain how it would fall. I would probably cheer Colon, but honestly cannot work up anything else for them.
  11. I'm down to three teams possibly four: NL, Astros or Cards AL, Red Sox or Twins I usually always pull for the AL team, but probably not this year.

Ain't it great. The only problem is, that's your new standard and when those same songs take :55 because of betwork bottlenecks, you'll be pissed. Trust me the speed honeymoon thing only last for a week or so, then you only notice the delays.
  13. I didn't want to trash Jose in the 30th thread, but I would love to see him come back as a backup with a backup salary.
  14. As I understand the rules around here, you're ok as long as none of the Eagles are members here It is aggravating when your team cannot catch a break.

No notes were allowed to be brought in
  16. You would think, at the minimum, the NFL refs could be paid, full time employees that use the off season and M-F to actually improve as refs, not working regular jobs. And no matter how bad they are, death is probably not a just outcome to wish for.

    Presidential Poll

I see in the 45 GOP; 45 DEM; 10 Middle of Road scenario Accepting the fact that pork fat is how we grease the political wheels, those 10 M.O.R. Party members would command a lot of attention. Basically they would be swing votes. I would like to see one of our existing parties move to the center, but I don't see it happening. Perhaps one party will dive so far to the extreme, they will work themselves out of a base.
  18. Astros are up, bottom of the 1st. 0-0
  19. I was thinking Jose right away. Shall we add some other names? Dare I say Frank?
  20. I'm trying to follow the Bears and watching the Astros. I guess the Bears game may be over by halftime.
  21. Next year is critical if the Sox wish to regain the city.

    Presidential Poll

A legit third party, who captures even 10 or 15% of the house seats would result in the biggest log jam in our nation's history as every bill would take intense negotiations to reach majority. Nothing would pass, and they would control everything as the swing votes. Hmmm, maybe that would be fun.
