NASA buying spare parts on eBay
Actually there are semiconductor foundrys that can reproduce older designs for a price. It is expensive, rights have to be secured, the proper wafer production started, etc. Once every couple years we get into an area that I have more than a casual knowledge.

Postseason Prediction Thread
Calling Housfon South Texas is like calling Joliet Southern Illinois. Hell I live 365 miles south of Houston. That's a heap and a holler even by Texas standards. Damn Yankees and their geography

Pension fund bailout on the horizon
That's why I'm banking on the safety and security of US Social Security checks. I cannot wait until Joe Soxpack in Biose can invest his social security peyments. Then we'll really see some bailouts when their investments go belly up.

Who are YOU Cheering for...
1. Agreed 2. Olympic style? After every victory? I think players should be able to select someone on every team they want tested. Top three from every team get tested. Plus some random testing. 3. Interesting. Has some big issues to overcome, especially for the first year. Would you have "wasted" a pick on Takatsu in 2002 or 2003? 4. Nope. NBA rookies always make the roster, and usually play significant minutes. MLB draftees are crap shoots. I don't see enough similaraties.

"Cubs an Embarrassment" according to si.com
OMG, this is so funny and scary. People are expecting the Cubs to win something? This is the first time in my lifetime of really following and understanding baseball. I was a youngin in 1969 and couldn't watch many day games because I wasn't an unemployed bum, instead I was a full time student.

Why are liberals so easily 'outraged'?
I understand it was the teacher's actions when asked about the bulletin board that caused the situation, not necessarily just the picture. One parens described the treatment as rude and unprofessional. The lady went off on a rant and was asked to leave to calm down. There were also conflicting reports as to the size of the picture. There were all these standard same shots then a much larger Bush photo because that was all she could find. There are some very silly rules regarding sitting President's pictures in different location around election time. I believe it grows out of a sense of not giving too much power to encumbants. Still in every classroom, Bush's picture, and that of the entire cabinet, and the Senators and Congressman from that district should be displayed. How else will kids learn? It certainly doesn't warrent as much attention as the pen that Kerry used during the debate. I can understand outrage over a pen. Added: 8:15 am I just heard on my local radio station, allegedly from a parent who wintnessed the exchange, that the teacher was asked why that picture of Bush was up. Instead of stating it was a display of presidents, she went off on an anti-Kerry rant. The decription given was this is a pre-packaged display that was out of date and the teacher (rightfully in my view) added Bush. The picture did not match in size, style, etc. This gets into the thought police area that I despise. Who cares why she out it up? Whether it was a civics lesson, or not so subtle campaigning, or because she hates Kerry, a picture of Bush should be in every public school classroom.

SL&P Visits, Thread Starts
I've been thinking about pacing and what keeps people coming back regularly to an internet site. Fresh content seems like something that would be very important. I've always thought about the person who visits once per day. When they come back I figure there should be a mixture of some hot topics, some day old news, and some new stuff. But always have some new stuff. It seems like some people are quicker to add threads than others. One way we all can keep this site vital and interesting in to bring some of your personality to the overall tone. You can help by starting threads related to what you are interested in. Don't worry if it doesn't get 25 replies, sometimes there are threads that only receive one or two replies but dozens of views. Those are still popular. I would like SL&P to be a "must read" everyday for all our members, but it needs a lot of soxtalk members to make that happen. With the Sox baseball season over, Pale Hose slows down. Bears are once a week, the Bulls are, well the Bulls, and of course, the Blackhosers will be idle for a while. So SL&P becomes a great place to play. Thoughts??
