  2. The problem we will have if a third party really gained a foothold is our government would grind to a standstill without one party having a majority. Hmmm, maybe that is a good idea It would be total grid lock. Here's why we are in this mess. If you took the US population and graphed their political range, we would have a bell curve with most being middle of the road moderate. Add that to an inexact label of liberal or conservative. A conservative in California could be a liberal in West Texas. So in the olden days a California GOP candidate may be more liberal that a Texas Democrat. Still with me? Now one thing that Americans do very, very, well is marketing. We have Dems vs. GOPers just like Coke vs. Pepsi. Imagine if Pepsi and Coke changed their formula based on markets? Same thing with political parties. Trying to market a range of beliefs across the country vs. getting everyone to support the same thing. So over the past decades the Dems and the GOP divided up issues and positions and have dove to the left and right. Their members individual voting records do not reflect their true feelings and are not in line with the majority of Americans. Combine that with a press that is expected to search anywhere and everywhere for news, the more tintilating the better, we have flawed candidates.

OMG, I thought it said Roker In middle school it was pitching quarters, in HS we played poker by tossing the money into a text book that had been hollowed out.
  4. You have to love the two party system, where the cream rises to the top.
  5. These are two of our greatest men. Either one would make us proud and do a fine job as President. :puke

Jim starting to roam? Maybe having him fixed would be better. Of course he may gain a few pounds . . .
  7. Yall are making me so damn homesick.
  8. I understand, then next off season we'll be complaining we don't have a decent 1st baseman and/or LFer and will need some sort of trade to fill the hole at 1st or LF. When can we fill a hole without creating a new one? :rhetorical question:

fire ants are nasty, nasty creatures. I have 429 bermuda in my backyard. The previous owner was the golf pro at a local country club and grabbed a bag of the same seed the fairways were seeded with. I haven't maintained it to the same standards so I do not have the super tight smooth surface. My front is a drought resistent St. Augustine that I love. Very green and takes almost zero water.
  11. No one can really replace Adam Schiff.

I'd wait until next season's conclusion before making any decisions.

I hope to read a retirement notice on Sandy and an announcement he will be coaching somewhere in the system. I do not mind reloading for next season. Keep Shingo and Cliff.

Many times the stats proved the managers gut. You cannot factor in the human element into a spread sheet. I've also come to dislike almost all pitch hitting. Seems like a guy coming in cold doesn't do all that well.
  15. I think the longer he hangs around, the better his chances. I am also hearing from more and more people who are tired of defending him, are just shutting up or saying they are voting for Bush, but will vote Kerry. I also think Bush could have win handily with a VP change and the Dems could have won easily with Edwards.

what are you planning on putting down? Common carpet grass or something more exotic? Do you have to worry about winter hardiness way up north?
  17. Law & Order is ruined for me with him being on. He is too identified with other characters. They needed someone from no where to join the cast. Perhaps another Broadway type like Orbach. Back to the DVD. In an abstract way look at all our war movies staring John Wayne with Japanese dying, or Indians being heroically beaten back by the pilgrams. What makes this so much more horrific is this isn't a movie, it's real life.
  18. A little independent research on my part for a Scout project. Sitting Presidents Winning re-election Winner Electoral Margin Wilson 277-254 Coolidge 382-136 F. Roosevelt 449-82 and 432-99 Eisenhower 457-73 Truman 303-189 Nixon 520-17 Reagan 525-13 Clinton 379-159 Seems like for most of the past 100 years it's a landslide when they win. All of the really close elections have gone to the challenger.
  19. During the Bull Dynasty (versus the Pistons Die-Nasty) Scotty and MJ susspended in time the relentless path to All-O No-D NBA basketball. From high atop the stadium I watched those two play both ends of the court better than anyone else in their era. I think Scottie was a bit of a head case, but add his D to his O and he's a first ballot, top 20 forward of all time.
  20. I think we should differentiate between "local chains" like Portellos or Lou Malnattis vs. "national chains" like Pizza Hut and Ruth Chris
  21. Why does it seem to me that instead of being happy with a 40/111 guy, we spend a bunch of time looking for a 40/111 guy who is making less to put on the payroll? So far we've wanted to trade every guy in the lineup hoping for some Holy Grail of guys making the league min and hitting .330/40/100 We need to build around guys like Kong, not trade them away. We've been creating more holes then filling.
  22. Starting soon we will be creating a Sox Talk Hall of Fame. The preliminary plans are to induct 4 people this year and two a year there after. These HoF members will not be eligible for SoxTalk annual awards. Currently we are planning to set up polls for voting. On the ballot will be all the Admins who keep the site running and 2-3 "at-large" nominees. Please PM me with your suggestions and nominations. We are also considering making one or two automatic selections. Individuals we feel are 1st ballot shoe-ins making voting unneccesary. PM me with those thoughts as well.
