Well hell that was fun. 70 posts in less than an hour. Too bad we don't have anything else to do until game time. Anticipaaaaation is making me . . . crazy.

Excellent Beastly. This shows some maturity on your part and a desire to do what is best for the soxtalk community. Have you considered doing something really unique and mailing it instead of email? Very old school, but in many cases better.

In this case I do not think either will make a difference. However, in other situations, specific refernces carry more weight than a cannot be proven reference. I know someone who was beat up at the ballpark is not as good as stating I was with Bob Jones on June 5 when he was attacked. Customer Service wants to deal with facts, not vague references. In these types of letters objective evidence always trumps subjective.

So we'll confuse them and write a nice letter and reference soxtalk.com Bottom line, you cannot control who references threads here. The only certain defense is to control what get's posted and delete or close the offending stuff. That's the same for any web site.

Those Sox employees must really be stupid to jump to that conslusion from one letter. Perhaps someone can clue them in that anyone can post on web sites, and all sorts of people from seriously deranged to very inteligent use the internet. Do they ever read the official MLB boards? Maybe they should get with technology and get wired to the internet instead of being so ignorant about what's out there.

Gee, are some people embarassed by some of the threads? To really protect the reputation and everything else, you have to control the content. The thread in question was allowed to continue, what in the thread would be embarrasing? At anytime, anyone, including the people you are concerned about can log in and read the posts. How many "guests" view the posts? How many of them have written letters mentioning things they read here? We may not like it, but that's the reality. Police what gets posted, delete the stuff you find embarrasing, and do not worry about anyone viewing the cite.

Yet another reason we should be diligent in the posts we allow. This is a public forum and anyone can cite what they've read here, same as a newspaper. I read on Yahoo's message boards that Kerry's a douchbag and Bush is an idiot. Does anyone think Yahoo corporation or all Yahoo users believe that? I read on mlb.com massage boards that fans hope Maggs is out for the season. Does that represent all mlb.com users? mlb? Don't sweat it. If you aren't proud to let anyone view the posts, then we have a bigger problem that a bad letter citing the board.

Not specific to Beastley's post but about citing soxtalk.com in general. Media companies deal with that all the time. People quote Time, Newsweek, Sun-Times etc. In fact it would be wrong to not cite your source. Remember plagarizism? Properly cited, anything on this cite has the potential to be reprinted. Imagine the fun the Trib could have with the Kotex Boy thread. You think your embarrassed by Beastley's reference, how about reprinting pages of KotexBoy :fyou or some of our equally intelligent posts. Look how many posts here link to CNN, ESPN, SI, etc. Refernces go both ways.

I agree with all the comments about the final line. I do not believe he positioned soxtalk like he's the board owner or anything. It would be the same as if he said he read it on cnn.com or chisox.com. He named his source. If he wrote suntimes.com would you think he worked for the suntimes?
  11. Hulk Queen Prawn is breaking out of her ties that bind . . . Maybe its a sign from God
  12. My college cross country team had a woman compete into her 7th month. She slowed, but not by too much. Her Doctors told her that as long as this ws something she did before getting pregnant, she could continue. The mattress: He phoned a few friends, said his wife is missing. Then stops by a mattress store and picks up a new mattress, then calls police. Seems strange to me. Especially with her hair found in a nearby dumpster.

  15. Is it ever *not* the spouse? Fess up loser and tell the family where the body is. You are going to jail, this is the last chance to do something decent.
  16. I got ejected from a baseball game for arguing with my own coach. It was after I played on a travelling all-star team for 4 seasons and was talked into playing in the "house" league for one last season. I must have been 14 or 15. We had a runner on third with one out and the coach asked me to switch hit and bat left handed. It seemed strange, but not as strange as the next play. He had the runner try and steal home! He was out by 25 feet. I stood their in disbelief with my .600 batting average. I started back into the box and then walked down to the coach and told him he was an idiot. First of all, you want me batting right handed to screen the catcher if your going to try and steal home. I happen to be a very good bunter and a suicide squeeze would have been better. Then really let loose with what an idiot I thought he was. Next thing I know I was calling my mommy from a pay phone to come and get me.
  17. Buying a mattress is very damning evidence if you ask me.
  18. It would help if we google bombed White Sox Fan Site to get us closer to the top. A few dozen of us start blogs and all link and we could be on our way.
  19. Not me, but a guy I ran cross country with wasn't paying attention, and false started a 6.2 mile road race. He was 25 yards down the course when he realized no one else had started. He tried to look like it was a little warm up sprint, but we knew and a couple hundred people started laughing.
  20. Southsider, are you planning a vacation and looking for couches to crash on? That is so retro 1960s

    Celebrity Justice

I believe the balance is the media coverage. Celebrities are judges more harshly, with no rules of evidence, by the public. The public's judgement is in many ways far more damaging then the court's judgements.
