He was the keynote speaker and delivered a great speech. Each year there seems to be the man of the moment, comes out of nowhere to appear on the national stage. Sadly, they usually fade from sight in a couple years. I hope he writes a different story.

I am trying to say that not enough people understand that I love America and Israel. Actually if I could just convince one more . . . How did my post show up as CW?? Something is goofy.

The biggest roadblock we place in front of the poor are our public schools. We fund local schools through property taxes. Take a look at the Highland Park, Texas school district. When they hired a science teacher in 2002, they required a PhD. For a High School. Why? Because they could pay a fair salary for one. Greater pay equals better, more experienced teachers using better equipment and textbooks. Poor school districts are working with antiquated technology and old text books. How can we continue to be competitive in the world when so many of our children are going to schools that are working with one hand tied behind their backs? It has little to do with the teacher's desire or teh students desire. Equal opportunity. Stop funding schools by local property taxes, level out the playing field and then we will not need quotas and stuff in our colleges and universities. With companies moving jobs, especially low skilled manufacturing jobs to China and other countries we need to train these kids for productive jobs. We need to encourage companies to employ Americans. So many of you talk about how great living on public aid is, why not research and see what you will really have.

Tell that to a Mexican American that cannot rent an apartment. Tell that to a small business owner with diabetees who cannot get affordable insurance. Tell that to a poor community who is using 1970 era textbooks because they are funded by property taxes while a rich school district down the road spends more on a new weight room than the poorer school spending on books.

Does anybody really believe you can own a three bedroom, take a vacation, send your kids to a decent school, etc. while living on welfare? You are vastly overestimating what welfare buys you. Should the guy making $250,000 have better roads to drive on? Should his calls to police be answered quicker? Should his garbage be picked up more frequently? Again I ask, do you want to live in the America that the poorest can build? If we want everything to be "fair and equal" let's tax everyone the same. If it is decided that the most someone making $18,000 can pay is $1,500, let's tax everyone that and live with the America it can buy. So we have less Troops with worse equipment, our FAA has les money for defense, our roads aren't as nice. At least the folks that make more money can keep it. No one who has worked hard to earn more had their lifestyle get worse because of it. Working hard and earning mroe is still rewarded in America.

Dude, you've been on the road too long. Did that bus have a leaky exhaust If we are going to have this thread lets kick it up a notch Hot Dog: Take a cast iron Dutch Oven lid, flip it upside down over a wood charcoal fire and fry the hotdogs in the lid until golden brown. Place it in a poppy seed bun, add mustard, dill pickle relish, raw onions, tomato, pickle slice, sport peppers, and sprinkle on a little celery salt. Serve with a side of home cut fries. Brats: Simmer in a dark beer for 20 minutes while mesquite coals are being made ready. Grill 3-4" from a medium hot fire until slightly charred. Serve on a small french roll with spicy mustard and grilled onions. Pair either one with a cold beer. I prefer a little heavier, darker beer, with the brat. A nice ale will be fine with the hotdog. Now, anyone for an Italian sausage?

It costs a little more to live in a 1st Class country. We could base our society on the lowest common denominator. Would you prefer a few more begers outside you door? Some more road congestion? Perhaps taking days and weeks to clear products through customs instead of hours? Waiting hours for an overseas telephone line? Corrupt government officials taking bribes to augment paltry salaries? Water that always needs to be boiled? Sewage in our lakes, steams, and rivers? Do you want a US that is based on what the poorest among us can afford, or what we collectively can afford? I do not mind paying more than the average in my income tax. I travel 20 miles west of my door and visit Mexico. I see what cheaper taxes buy.
