  1. The minimum really doesn't force any competitive balance. The amount of talent available stays the same. If the Dodgers are paying a player 2x what a small market is currently paying they could continue to offer 2x the small market price and the player doesn't move. Basically for competitive balance the playoff teams should lose talented players to the non playoff teams. The Sox should be selling not buying.
  2. Everytime I read the headline here I wonder if somewhere in the Sox organization did someone say, "damn, there goes that option".
  3. Hopefully the small payroll clubs are forced to be involved. Then we'll see some fireworks. Force a couple of those clubs to add 20 or 30 million to their payroll. Yee haw!
  4. While we're waiting. I like the idea of shortening the season and adding another round of playoffs. With the playoff bonus pool money it would mean less games for the same or more money for players, which is a win. If this CB agreement achieves the goal of more competitive teams the tighter grouping makes sense to differentiate the really good from just good. If every team is between 75 and 90 wins, one injury in June could knock a really good team from in to just out of the current playoff possibility. The who makes the playoffs drama can happen at 154, 145, 158, or 125 as easily as 162. With interleague play there isn't anything magical about 162. The season was lengthened to make more money for the owners. Let's shorten it back to make more money for players.
  5. Usually on the way out banned posters theorize power hungry idiots with small dicks.
  6. Hopefully some players and scientists are getting together and discovering new ways of cheating to save the game like last time. The owners could end this now. Just accept the proposal and move on. I'm looking over what some are suggesting will be the hardest to resolve issues and I can't get excited about either position. Super 2 arb? Great, I'll take either side or anywhere in the middle if it means a settlement. Revenue sharing? Sure, either side or settle anywhere in the middle. I'm pro settle this fast.
  7. Although some new mods would be an easy way to bring in some fresh cash. What's the current price to be a mod?
  8. Basically she is an in house lawyer with a PhD in baseball and baseball operations. Another racial breakthrough first for the White Sox. It's one area the Sox are best in league.
  9. Usually they will oversee all aspects of minor league operations, including evaluation of the minor league system, roster and statistical analysis, budget responsibilities, free-agent contract negotiations, implementation of new development programs and the maintenance of existing programs. 11. The MLB teams pay the players. And I'm certain some team owners are better than others.
  12. Every player and every owner has to honor this new agreement so using generic owner and generic player terminology is easiest.

  14. I hadn't really used headphones since my college DJ years and that wasn't really for listening. The first night I was listening to some classic rock from the 60s and 70s and was blown away by layers I never heard before. Some acts that I thought were ok back then went to the top of my list like Steely Dan. I thought $200 was crazy. With my well earned tinnitus I didn't think anything could sound that good.
  15. Normally I'm all for media sites running with stories. I understand the economics of a scoop like this and I'm certain they felt they were on solid ground with their sources. But I can't help but feel he was cheated out of making the announcement himself. It seems really unfair. Now I hope he sticks around for one more year.
  16. I read this and thought, wait isn't he a mod? Can you believe 17 years here?!
  17. I'm not near them but I think HD 6xx. My son picked them up on massdrop as a gift. The DAC is a Shiit I really liked them both. I've basically been hearing everything I missed in the 70s.
  18. I can't seem to get excited, good or bad, about any of the OC candidates. Those with more knowledge, what will it take to create an offensive scheme around Fields? Is it really that difficult? It seems like you could look at other QBs like him, see what those teams ran, and pick and choose from there. In other words, maybe the OC job isn't going to be as critical as I was thinking a couple days ago.
  19. Seems like a really solid hire. A bit lacking in work level experience, but excellent in life experience and education.
  20. Why haven't MiLB players unionized? I'm thinking about the people who depend on MLB to earn a living and thinking most of them are deserving raises. If we're going to move insane profits from owners to anybody else I would much rather see those profits moved to MiLB players and the rest of the employees. The MiLB players shouldn't be arguing about sharing a room while at home. Pay them a livable wage and not making housing a part of the deal. That's just a way to keep from paying them a decent wage. The same for the rest of the front office, ticket offices, vendors, etc. And stop giving these teams millions or billions in tax breaks. They should be paying to make the communities they serve better. But instead the guys with the union who are already making wages that put them among the elite money earners in the world will grab millions more and all the folks struggling to earn a living stay the same. It just doesn't seem fair.
  21. Which is one of the qualifying traits along with enjoying the power trip that comes with the corner office. Since we jettisoned SL&P the need for moderators has dropped by 83.65%. We receive very few reported posts, in fact weeks go by between them, there just isn't much modin' and adminin' to do around here so no one has been pushing to add some more help. Plus most members prefer less, not more, moderating. Tray, in five years you have won the day twice for having the most liked content. Including this past November. Why not focus on winning the day more often? Honestly great posters are the biggest asset to this place. Being a mod is really overrated. All you can do is occasionally delete a post or use the luxury suite at the park while hanging out with JR and the rest of the front office. Yeah, the players parties are fun at first, but eventually listening to Anderson talk about his Field of Dreams walk off for the tenth time gets boring.
  22. And is something we should do. If folks aren't going to invest those profits back into their businesses by perhaps paying their employees better wages or improving their communities, they should be paying higher taxes. Now to watch you twist that to fit your narrative.
