  1. Hopefully there will be plenty of good options come playoff time.
  2. Pre gamed a little too much and hoping to stay awake for the game. My waiter / former student / son of the owners, kept filling my glass and bringing food samples. Damn I'm old. Not TLR old, but I have to compliment him on staying awake for late games.

    Student Loan Debt

I just bumped into one of my former students today. His plan had been to save money on his undergrad and then spend on his grad degree. Funny thing happened on the way. He earned great grades, heard his friends who were not going to grad school discuss what will eventually be their payments and decided to again save some money. Instead of applying at the best environmental science schools and accepting what was issued, he targeted scholarships and has almost a full ride set at UWM. He's been told Madison is a cold weather version of Austin.
  4. August is the worst month, just killing time waiting for the opportunity to clinch in September and the playoffs. Yawn. Play around .500 and get folks healthy. How about a Go Fund Me to buy Jose some armor? Bubble wrap Eloy?
  5. I should have been more specific. I wasn't trying for click bait
  6. I was surprised to learn how many deals start from "are you interested in x and what do you have to give?". Not will you trade x for y? And since the Sox ane Cubs had two deals going was one done first because the Cubs had more offers or the Sox had others opportunities? It seems both had to be going on simultaneously.
  7. https://deadspin.com/all-they-had-to-do-was-check-clevelandguardians-com-and-1847403859 Oops. There already is a team in Cleveland named the Guardians.
  8. I hope he's packing, tipping the clubhouse staff, checking out of the hotel . . .
  9. Can you image teams prepping for the Sox thinking about the 7 - 8 - 9 innings? If we were playing against a team like that we'd say there was no chance.
  10. Yet when Stone said Moncada wasn't working hard enough and dogged it at times most thought Stone was crazy. Crystal ball?
  11. I agree. Between the two, I see the Padres with a better team but a tougher path.
  12. San Jose Sharks' Evander Kane denies wife's allegations that he bet on NHL games https://flip.it/4M8A32 It's easy to dismiss this as the allegations of a pissed off wife in a divorce. It's equally easy to believe a desperate gambler facing bankruptcy would bet on his sport and bet on games involving his team. I'm not ready to believe he threw games, but it will be interesting to see if there are any anomalies in his play.
  13. How can a guy who hasn't played a full MLB season be considered an everyday top player for years to come? It seems like at a minimum he should prove he could do it once in his life before receiving that designation. He's played 29 games in one season and 54 in another, had serious injuries in both, and folks want to pen him in the starting lineup for the next five years? 2021 seems like a good year to contend for a title. Maybe 2022 or 2023 with a healthy Nick would have been a better chance. Most of us have watched enough baseball to know things change drastically from year to year. This year is much more certain than next. Go all in.
  14. One of the first friends I made in San Antonio was a fellow coach from Chicago. He's one of the smartest baseball guys I know and now runs two baseball practice facilities ( you can't call these places batting cages anymore) It was really easy being happy for him when they won and he's reciprocated. He even attended a Sox game this year. Being a 1,000 miles away it's so much easier to think of the Cubs being like any other NL team.
  15. Made me forget about that guy who had that really good start in 2021 but finished the season in AAA.
  16. I will reserve judgement until he plays a full season.
