  1. JR is all in on GME. Once he cashes out he can really load up the roster.
  2. I heard a couple of my students discussing how much they invested. I'm not certain to be impressed or worried.
  3. I've never been interested in counting someone else's money. I don't care if they win with a $100 million payroll or a $300 million.

And perhaps that's another part of Trump's appeal.
  5. Lol. Yeah, that is another crazy twist in this.
  6. Baseball should honor him as an example of the people baseball considers great. Any kid visiting the hall should aspire to be just like him. He's a great example of why baseball is America's game and all baseball fans should be proud to be associated with him and glad he chose baseball. He can stand proudly besides Clemente and Robinson. Here's an idea. As an alternate to fame, open up a hall of great stats. Pick an objective list of advanced metrics you believe a player should reach, and skip the voting. It would also be fitting to keep it virtual only. Leave the Hall of Fame for humans that are actually worth MLB honoring.

The more I think about this the more I'm convinced that income tax cuts for Americans with student loan debt is the politically feasible path. What Republican doesn't agree with tax cuts? More interesting to me. When I cast my first vote for President, Jimmy Carter's failed bid for reelection, the image was Republicans carried brief cases to work and Democrats carried lunch boxes. Blue color versus white color. The debate over student loan forgiveness and the last election seems to strongly refute that premise. There is at the minimum a mixing. Or the Dems are making a strong move with student loan relief to appeal to the professional college grad with a briefcase.
  8. To me the hall of fame enshrines baseball's best employees. They are as close to the ideal person the game can be proud of. If you "owned" MLB you wouldn't think of some of these employees as ideal.
  9. I really wish I could see the 100 or 500 year historical view of my lifetime. We're on the dawn of true mass communication. 100 years from now we'll be better able to analyze the good and bad and I suspect this will be historically significant.
  10. The hall is a marketing tool for MLB. It's a giant commercial.
  11. It is. But continuing to repeat mistakes isn't the answer either.
  12. It's insane.
  13. The hall of fame is an entertainment venue that celebrates the game of baseball. I don't see any compelling reason to honor anyone who disrespected the game.
  14. Dikta doing commercials for Car Shield is oddly sad and pathetic to me.
  15. When I posted we never did this before I was quickly corrected. We did this with the polio vaccine by using schools and churches.
  16. We should have done this like we did polio, through churches and schools. Shut school buildings down and use the school nurses.

You have to click on some questions at the end.
  18. I think it's the pace of baseball that draws fans who are more analytical than say the average football or basketball fan. Although I don't have an fIQS stat to back up my opinion. I enjoy analysis in a lot of areas, and during my business career I poured over a lot of reports. With baseball I haven't noticed a correlation between fWAR and my enjoyment of watching a player or team. I got heavily into the modern stats for a while but they just haven't held my interest beyond a casual look. It may be generational. I grew up in the days of buying random packs of baseball cards, trading dupes, and memorizing a few basic stats. I've decided in the final analysis baseball is nostalgic for me.
  19. Gee I'm shocked that wealthier people will receive the vaccine before poorer people. That may get fixed in a hundred years. We suck at equality and fairness in every situation where rich and poor compete for a limited resource. So if you believe you would be receiving the vaccine unfairly, refuse it until you believe it is the correct time for you to receive it. If enough people do that we may make a difference.

The "counseling" that is required for the government back loans is so easy to click and ignore that I doubt 5% of the borrowers actually pay attention.
  21. I understand what you are saying, but just looking at the total seems misleading. Here's what I'm mulling in my head, and thank you for your input. What does Tim get if we signed him as a free agent this off season? He's getting paid about half of Eaton's contract. Would we have Louis at his contract if he was a free agent? We have some really strong players at cheap prices. That shouldn't be a criticism. I think the criticism I have with this is small today versus what it may be in June when we know where the holes are. That payroll should allow the team to swallow a shitty, over priced contract for a one season fix where the rain comes in.
  22. Depending on where you set the distance it could help the runner or the pitcher. One step off the base and it favors the pitcher, one step from second and it helps the runner. Somewhere along that axis is something that may be fair. The more I think about it, the less I like it for all the reasons you mentioned.
  23. @soxsi75 it's putting on a bandaid but you could limit the lead off distance after a pitcher maxes out. You could change the rules to where the pitcher has to step back from the rubber to make a pick off move after he's reached his max. There are ways to mitigate. I'm not certain I would like any of those changes.
  24. Months? It's been split for years. It never should have been a league by league decision.
