  1. I was specifically pointing out that a blanket no fourth year shouldn't be an automatic.
  2. I think you have to look at the total contract. Just using some numbers to make the point not suggesting any contracts for a specific player. 3/36 or 4/42 are interesting choices for both a team and a player, especially older players looking at perhaps their last contract. Or to use an absurd example would you rather have a guy for 3/30 or 4/30?
  3. I'm not certain if these guys are selling a dream or parents are buying a dream and found the first hustler. I coach golf and parents hear that there are unused college scholarships for girls. Yes that's true but not at any schools you've heard of and not for the level your kid plays at. No one is offering a scholarship to a kid who can't break 100. Those guys all seem to need a gimmick. Solid fundamentals, hard work, a healthy lifestyle are boring concepts so they sell "secrets" while inflating their accomplishments to willing buyers. My top players all have private swing coaches so I try to focus on the mental side of the game and course management. Every once in a while parents will send their kids to a "professional" who rarely is a psychologist or psychiatrist. At best they may have a MA or a counseling certificate. I laugh when I hear the same themes I've been tell the kids.
  4. It seems like polarizing is working. It builds a loyal army.

    2020 Catch-All

A coaching friend of mine and I did that at Whataburger. Over the course of a season we had one of every burger. Their version of the patty melt reigned supreme.
  6. So how does the civil unrest end? America is becoming more and more polarized.
  7. I wasn't trying to start a new conspiracy, in the old days I would have typed that in green.
  8. At least here in San Antonio baseball is going the way of tennis, golf, volleyball, soccer, etc and private clubs and their coaches are more influential on a kid's training than the high school coaches. In some cases that's a good thing. A buddy of mine from Chicago runs a couple baseball facilities here in San Antonio that provide really good instruction.
  9. That made me laugh. As a high school coach (different sport but the analogy fits) I find myself telling a kid, when you become desperate to save your career you can do X. Until then, let's try the conventional approach.
  10. It's for an enjoyable experience. When people are constantly being pissed off or pissing others off then it's not what ChiSoxfn envisioned when he started the place.
  11. Seems like you could start with the player in a circle as the bullseye and offer a plot on the likelihood he would catch a ball that landed in any given area. I assume some players have a wider range to one side than the other.
  12. Why don't we hit pause on this thread? This is really more Buster territory than baseball.
  13. In that case it's all good as long as it happened to a few whites.
  14. OMG I can't believe how deep the fraud goes! Massive widespread and now it's not going to be fixed??
  15. With hospitals and nursing homes receiving $25,000 per Covid death the deaths here are getting over reported. ???
  16. Plus we have the most comfortable dugout masks in baseball! We'll even fly you and the woman of your choice to Branson for the weekend and throw in a FREE propane grill.
  17. Since I parse words for a living -- "aggressive" could mean making the highest monetary offer, it could also mean they keep calling his agent with a ridiculous low ball offer multiple times a day.
  18. I don't think the market will support that even with a vaccine approved and shipping. I wouldn't be shocked at 4/48
  19. Of course this is the same party that slandered military medals to discredit John Kerry.
  20. You know a better offer is coming, the foodies know a better offer is coming, I'm going to assume Hendricks and his agent know this also unless they don't follow the foodies on twitter. So why would he sign now?
  21. You answered your own question. Hendricks is unsigned because he know as teams with larger budgets lose out on other players they will eventually turn to him and we will get priced out.
  22. Technically Jerry is just one of the investors, the most high profile. IIRC he owns about 20%.
