  1. Anyone have a favorite YouTube fireplace with music?
  2. He also stays in a really cool bunker in the event of a nuclear bomb. Life is unfair.

You'd think he'd be mad since they didn't secure another term for him.
  6. Then we would think you're an idiot and we could do a better job. ? Here we can agree with you.
  7. And I probably downplayed winning a WS a little too much. That has to be a dream for anyone in sports. But reality is only one team wins it all. If that's the only thing getting you out of bed in the morning you'll be unhappy. You have to enjoy the process.
  8. Why does anybody leave? I think what is interesting as fans we just see the opportunity to win and believe that every GM should just pick the spot that gives them the best chance to win a WS. I'm not certain everyone thinks that way. Living in Chicago is different than living in Kansas City, New York, or Houston. Liking the people you work around may be important. Of course with limited jobs most people never have a choice. But I believe more people in sports look at the other things more than we think.
  9. One of the reasons I love teaching. So many talented kids walking the hallways.
  10. Negative Covid test, finally back to campus.
  11. There is gallows humor in every industry I've worked in and I suspect it happens everywhere. It's a coping mechanism. My ex wife worked ERs. "How's he doing? " "Pass the bible, he's studying for the final" Oue the hospitality industry in Texas in March. "What's the over/ under on Spring Break deaths this year"? Trying to laugh at something we can't handle has been around forever, it's like whistling past the graveyard. We just aren't suppose to say it out loud anymore. From the reports I read management a couple steps above them put in place a horrible situation that these managers had to manage. Those bets seem more like bitter irony than indifference to me. But I don't know them. This seems like upper management trying to cover their decisions that put feeding people and profits over worker safety.
  12. Wow, I earned a Master's in Literature exactly like this. What did Mack Thomas write and when with a careful analysis. I felt like a stalker. Could someone offer a TLDR:? @southsider2k5 don't you wish your kids paid this much attention to what you say?
  13. So SS it seems like you were trying to corner the crypto market by discouraging participation by others here. You're a mean one Grinch.
  14. I wasn't even talking about any specific player. (Which I put in italics.) Often times it isn't obvious to everyone. Some people skim posts or just repeat things they have heard without really thinking about it.
  15. I was specifically pointing out that a blanket no fourth year shouldn't be an automatic.
  16. I think you have to look at the total contract. Just using some numbers to make the point not suggesting any contracts for a specific player. 3/36 or 4/42 are interesting choices for both a team and a player, especially older players looking at perhaps their last contract. Or to use an absurd example would you rather have a guy for 3/30 or 4/30?
  17. I'm not certain if these guys are selling a dream or parents are buying a dream and found the first hustler. I coach golf and parents hear that there are unused college scholarships for girls. Yes that's true but not at any schools you've heard of and not for the level your kid plays at. No one is offering a scholarship to a kid who can't break 100. Those guys all seem to need a gimmick. Solid fundamentals, hard work, a healthy lifestyle are boring concepts so they sell "secrets" while inflating their accomplishments to willing buyers. My top players all have private swing coaches so I try to focus on the mental side of the game and course management. Every once in a while parents will send their kids to a "professional" who rarely is a psychologist or psychiatrist. At best they may have a MA or a counseling certificate. I laugh when I hear the same themes I've been tell the kids.

It seems like polarizing is working. It builds a loyal army.

A coaching friend of mine and I did that at Whataburger. Over the course of a season we had one of every burger. Their version of the patty melt reigned supreme.

So how does the civil unrest end? America is becoming more and more polarized.
  21. I wasn't trying to start a new conspiracy, in the old days I would have typed that in green.
  22. At least here in San Antonio baseball is going the way of tennis, golf, volleyball, soccer, etc and private clubs and their coaches are more influential on a kid's training than the high school coaches. In some cases that's a good thing. A buddy of mine from Chicago runs a couple baseball facilities here in San Antonio that provide really good instruction.
  23. That made me laugh. As a high school coach (different sport but the analogy fits) I find myself telling a kid, when you become desperate to save your career you can do X. Until then, let's try the conventional approach.
  24. It's for an enjoyable experience. When people are constantly being pissed off or pissing others off then it's not what ChiSoxfn envisioned when he started the place.
  25. Seems like you could start with the player in a circle as the bullseye and offer a plot on the likelihood he would catch a ball that landed in any given area. I assume some players have a wider range to one side than the other.
