It take money, organization, and ultimately votes to win an election. Trump doesn't seem to be able to carry candidates down the line. It will be interesting what his influence is with large Republican donors. If he can't contribute to GOP candidates post presidency his influence within the party will shrink rapidly.

Why would he sign a contract as a backup when it was obvious a couple teams needed a starter? Maybe if he was coming off a bad season but he was in a great position for a really nice contract. He would have been a fool not to test free agency.

Agreed. They tarnished the game. I then flip that around and want to see the Baines' and Buehrles in the hall. They polished the game and made it bright and shiney.
