  1. There would be outrage the day after. Then additional outrage a day after his suspension was complete and their team didn't sign him.
  2. I agree. There are very rare exceptions. For example Tiger hadn't had a drink. He was impaired.
  3. I'm not certain how immoral was introduced. What we are discussing is an organized by Soxtalk campaign to get sponsors to drop advertising unless the team fires TLR. I'm against it because it directly harms team workers and will not be effective. A MLB team is a monopoly that can't go out of business. JR will continue to collect his pay as President and the franchise will continue to grow in value. The only guaranteed response to drops in is a decrease in spending on players.
  4. OK, yes I'm certain there are situations that I would be in favor. This isn't one because I don't think it's effective and there are other avenues to punish TLR. JR is a minority partner in a monopoly that will continue to grow in value. The team in which he is president will simply cut expenses. The team rarely makes a profit as they have shown through the years. So this plan to add the additional punishment you want is a longshot at best that passes through some workers who I'm assuming are good people who don't deserve to be harmed by the actions TLR.
  5. A step further comparing wanting one punishment over another for DUI to supporting slavery? What a horrible accusation to make. You act like I want TLR forgiven or something. You rejected without knowing what punishment the courts will give him in favor of a trickle up punishment that will first harm working people and likely won't affect anyone else. When revenue drops JR isn't harmed. The team will simply cut expenses like salaries. So you are advocating for a plan that I believe will not even impact the people you want to have it impact. But it will affect the team's sales representatives who I do not believe are slaves.
  6. Take it a step further? This is a discussion about how to punish someone for a wrongdoing. I believe enslaving people was a much greater issue to society than how to punish someone for a DUI. There is a punishment system in our country. I want him fully punished to the extent if the law. I am not willing to fight a civil war and have millions die because he had a DUI. But I would be to end slavery. I am actually outraged you could even put slavery and DUI on the same level. Edit to add: Now that I understand the point that SS2k5 was making I would like to add his point is valid in that there are situations where workers are being exploited and it is bad the support those businesses. Economic pressure does make sense and I would support protests in those situations.
  7. Actually the opposite. I want fans to complain. I also would love a million letters to the prosecutor to make sure they know the world is watching and wants justice served. I just don't want to sacrifice working men and women in the process.
  8. So what will the team do if revenue drops? The team president will take a pay cut? The team will spend less on acquiring free agents and resigning players? The team rarely turns a profit. The owners have made money on the value of the franchise.
  9. It's interesting how minimum wage got dragged into this. In a sense it's analogous to trickle down economics. Some want trickle up punishment. Wipe out enough employees and JR will be forced to fire Larussa. Sure eventually Larussa will fall, but Larussa will fall on the bodies of working men and women and that cost is too high for me. Lost in all this I seem to be the only one to be advocating for a letter writing campaign to the one entity that can directly punish Larussa, the courts. Why accept they won't punish him for a second DUI?
  10. So don't pressure the courts to stop these lenient sentences. Instead compete with the sales reps from the team? Because if the rep can't make a sale eventually the punishment will trickle up? How about all that effort is placed at the court he's appearing in to make certain justice is served? Minimum wage is load of crap that big business loves. It's a false number. We should be fighting for a livable wage that is established by the poverty rate. I went door to door campaigning in the city of McAllen and we got livable wage into law for the city and anyone who contracts with the city. It can be done.
  11. I'm going to write law makers proposing "Tony's Law" which requires first time offenders to not just complete a one time alcohol awareness class and victims impact panel but complete one annually. Clearly the lessons are forgotten over time by some. I believe it would be a lasting tribute to a Hall of Famer and keep his legacy of drunk driving alive for people to learn from. Perhaps a media campaign to have JR endorse it.
  12. Actually quite the opposite. I'm not for a minimum wage, I'm for a livable wage, which is generally much higher. I'm picking the working class in this and you think I want to shit on people seeking minimum wage. Where the hell is that logic? I'm suggesting we punish the fuck out of Larussa without screwing over the guys working for a paycheck. You want to screw over the working guys in hopes it will punish JR and Tony. Whose fighting for regular workers?
  13. Think Tony is inviting the guys out for a beer to get to know them?
  14. Complain. Keep the media campaign alive. Burn jerseys. But really how about demanding tougher DUI laws? How about doing something to stop DUIs instead of just trying to get a manager you like? Require Breathalyzers for people convicted of DUI. How about all this anger doing something to really benefit society? Making certain that after two convictions he never drives again. Imagine actually doing something for society.
  15. That I was wrong and the company should have fired salespeople and I'm sorry. We will start punishing multiple people at every company someone drives drunk at. or I wanted Larussa punished more severely after the first offense and now fired immediately and at the maximum lose his driving privileges for life or at the minimum a breathalyzer be installed in his car. If six Cardinal employees lost their jobs in 2007 do you seriously think he wouldn't have driven drunk? I believe a more severe punishment for him would have had more of an effect. But I guess you think more highly of his moral character than I do. I don't think he gives a shit about anyone as displayed by him accepting the job. Knowing innocent people lost their jobs won't change his behavior. But I hope you are right. I also don't think JR gives a shit about people. So he won't care either about firing some staff. Behavior won't change and working folks get screwed.

You are 90% correct. It is great you mentioned Texas. With Austin attracting more and more high tech companies and California getting too expensive to live Texas is growing at a very rapid pace. Last estimate the people moving in are about 75% liberal leaning. Combined with a growing immigrant population that legally votes Dem, Texas is becoming a battleground state. It's not homegrown ideology.
  17. What will you tell the advertising sales guys when their income is cut in half or they lose their jobs? Do you want the team trying to keep sponsors and replacing any that might leave? While fans are pressuring sponsors to leave ordinary middle class people are trying to keep those same sponsors. That's who you are fighting with, not JR, not Larussa. You're battling the sales person out making calls for a living. They will be the ones paying the price. But we'll feel better because we did make the decision.
  18. I agree 100% he shouldn't have his job. I believe it is about public safety. People are putting innocent lives at risk when they drink and drive.
  19. Yes it is. A problem that he will solve by punishing innocent people.
  20. SS2k5 here's the link I'm not making. A bunch of sponsors pull out. JR doesn't get punished because the team won't lose much in market value. JR will still have more money than he can spend. Larussa won't be punished anymore than he would anyways by a drop in sponsorships. But a couple middle class workers trying to earn a living, support their families, live their lives will get hurt. I'm tired of the workers getting screwed over by the rich.
  21. Would the sales team be supporting drunk driving by continuing to work for the team and encouraging new sponsors? If the right thing is to pressure sponsors to drop then isn't anyone trying to hang on to them doing something wrong and should resign?
  22. I wish ignition lockouts were mandatory after a DUI. My brother died in a drunk driving crash and DUIs really piss me off.
  23. How am I protecting Larussa who I want fired and to serve jail time?
  24. What is different is innocent people aren't being punished. What I don't want to see is sponsors ending their contracts and the employees in sales and advertising getting punished. I'm not trying to protect anyone who has done something wrong. I am protecting collateral damage to innocent folks
