Are you suggesting there isn’t anyone on any roster you wouldn’t rather have? Unless you know who you are getting how do you know it doesn’t make sense? Now if we start saying things like trading him for prospects, or trading for the most likely trade offers, then I’m inclined to agree. But if some team wants to grossly overpay, then it could, in theory, make sense.

Golf
I know it’s a little late but standing a little closer to the ball will force a slightly more upright swing and higher elevation. But here in Texas we want your ball flight with our wind and dry fairways.

2018 catch-all
At a minimum check for underground utilities. Technically I installed not built, a shed on my property. It was built by one of the area schools and I bought it at a fundraiser. It arrived as four walls, a roof, and a floor. We leveled the floor, raised the walls, and put on the roof. The city told me that a permit was not required but I ran the risk of being liable if it was last acted incorrectly.

James Shields comment...
^this^ and I don't blame him.

Supreme Court lifts federal ban on sports betting
No doubt. What we're looking at is how will spreads being published in the local papers affect the games? Plus, there isn't a lot of oversite on high school coaches and players, not like NCAA and the NFL. Seems like there could be some real temptation.

Supreme Court lifts federal ban on sports betting
The Texas High School Coaches Assoc is already discussing what happens when we have lines for high school games. Don't think it is crazy. You can already bet teenager soccer matches around the globe, why not 17 and 18 year olds playing American football? Several of the off shore books already take action on televised high school games. I image the basketball coaches in Indiana must be considering the implications there.

Awesome proposal story. In other news it hit 102 here in San Antonio today. I just am getting over a bout of diverticulitis and I'm having cataract surgery this summer. I am feeling ancient.

My guess is the brakes pulsate at some frequency to avoid skidding (anti-skid). They probably found a way to increase the frequency. It kind of makes sense in that regard but I'm a little concerned, like you, that it was shipped that way.

Abreu- does he stay or go?
Most contracts favor the team early and the player later. I’ve always looked at the average per year. Deals get structured this way hoping for increasing team revenues not expecting productivity to increase.

I have a feeling we're going to put a little run of decent baseball together
That’s a beautiful thought. I see both of y’all are kind of new posters, welcome to Soxtalk.

Gun Violence in America
I see the pictures of the students and teacher that was killed today then look up from my desk and see my students. I look in the hall and see my fellow teachers. Any of us could be next. That my fellow soxtalkers sucks.

Why not hire Ozzie? Make things interesting.
At his best, I could agree with that. At his worst, which was for a long stretch in Chicago, he is beyond the worst manager in baseball. Average them together and I will take the other two.

I was just looking through some promo stuff Ford sent me on the new F-150. I've been considering the diesel but likely will wait until I retire and have more of a need for a diesel. What caught my eye was they are integrating Amazon Alexa into the truck. I use the hell out of mine at home and I'm thinking it would be great in the truck. Even better would be incorporating Waze navigation into the on board display.

I wish Ozzie was the name that could not be mentioned. He burned bridges that should never be rebuilt. Not just with the organizations he managed, but also for MLB in general.

2018 Democrats thread
Presidents get too much credit and too much blame. One of the biggest contributions they make is being a cheerleader. Trump has a group of Americans cheering that we haven't heard from since the early 1950s. Why did everyone love Reagan? After the scandals of Nixon, the clumsiness of Ford, and the wimpiness of Carter he was a bigger than life cowboy literally riding in on the white horse to save us. Clinton? A sax playing young good looking guy after the octogenarian Reagan and the "is it is mother or wife?" Bush duo. Cheerleading when we wanted it.

Sox vs Cards @ Busch, 7:15pm
One thing I know from many years here, statements like this are almost always correct. I only checked because as an English teacher I enjoy the linguistics. They could right the throw has to beat the runner, which would have one meaning, but they wrote the runner has to beat the throw. Edge to defense, which surprises me.

Isn't one of the underlying principles of our justice system that people can be rehabilitated? What I'm wondering is how is he paying his bills? He has to be in his 60s or close to 70.

PC Culture Gone Mad
While I agree this is over board, so too is the fuck you I can insult anyone I want and if you actually get insulted you are part of the PC b.s. crowd. People once upon a time had manners. Is was considered impolite to insult someone.
