  1. QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Feb 3, 2018 -> 12:18 PM) Let's hope there's not another strike then. Shades of 81 and 94, both times the Sox were rolling, there was a lot of fan excitement and things were looking very promising....then... It couldn't happen three times when the Sox were good could it? Wow, that would suck
  2. What other distraction is as persistent as phones? We've all watched people sit on their phones for the majority of games. The other distractions like vendors are shorter and less intense. Phones are just one, but probably equals all the other distractions combined. Next time at a game add up all the people distracted by vendors and those watching their phones and we'll have the answer. So teams should accept that phones add to our experience at the games and take steps to help fans who are using their phones, and they have. It's a nice positive step for phone users. Why try to shift blame from a device that is a necessity in our lives?

There is a facebook group for hosts. I'm not certain if they accept people considering hosting. Have you considered any of the Dog bnb?
  4. Probably not. But what I want to see is either hey we are cutting X so we can cut your taxes. Or we're going to spend more on X so we are going to raise your taxes. How much support might a border wall get if it was going to raise your taxes? How about jumping into a war with North Korea that will cost you an extra $500 a year? You want to offer junior college to the masses? It will cost every an extra $300 a year. My concern is we have lost all connection between income and expenses. We claim that we are going to be bringing in more money into the treasury after the cuts. OK, who is writing the bigger checks for more money to come in?
  5. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 23, 2018 -> 08:21 AM) https://smucker.house.gov/media/press-relea...nment-shutdowns There are lots of similar ideas out there. On the Republican side, they (typically) want to automatically chop 1, 2 or even 5% across the board if a full year budget can’t be reached. Of course, that wouldn’t affect military spending, only discretionary spending areas. You do realize the last two major shutdowns were GOP-led? I do, but my position will not change if it was the Dems.
  6. I would demand to know what they were cutting. I believe if there is a raise or lowering of taxes there should be an accompanying list of spending cuts/additional programs or costs incurred.
  7. Creating policy with guns to people's heads is a dangerous path. I'd support a constitutional amendment to make it illegal. I don't see a legal way however, to make that possible,
  8. MLB.com written by and for the benefit of MLB. Just a little something I teach my students.
  9. QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Jan 22, 2018 -> 08:59 PM) Yea Brady is in the Super Bowl again. Way. To. Go. Do their fans even care about regular season games anymore? I love watching the White Sox so much on a summer night that I don’t think I’ll get spoiled. I may desire to see them get a bigger challenge though after 4-5 straight championships. Maybe MLB will consolidate the NL into one super team to try to beat the Sox...which will still not be enough, but at least competitive. I shared Bulls season tickets with a couple buddies during the Bulls runs. We told ourselves we would never become Laker fans who only showed up to playoff games. Well 41 regular season games becomes a chore when you start having kids, and it does get expensive going to so many games, and it is nice to help people you know out by selling a few games here and there so they can go to a game . . . Yeah, we basically waited for the playoffs by the third championship season.
  10. You give money back to the poor and working class and it always moves up hill to business owners. Give money to the rich and hope if flows down hill. It seems like letting the working folks touch the money for a moment isn't such a bad thing. I would love to have a law that when taxes are lowered they must list a corresponding list of true cuts in spending. AND When adding an expense, either the tax increase to pay for it, or again the actual spending cut that is happening to pay for it.
  11. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jan 4, 2018 -> 03:32 PM) The Red Sox fan base is probably ten times the size of the White Sox. The Cubs are the same. Anywhere you go in the country, you will find an abundance of Yankees, Red Sox, and Cubs fans. You will not find the same thing with the White Sox. This doesn't really bother me either. When you live away from Chicago you realize that the Cubs are the baseball team from Chicago. And oh, yeah, they have a second team
  12. Live sports is the problem for us. My wife is a big college football fan, especially UT. We can get to a couple of the home games, but the away games are a problem.
  13. From a distance (correct me if I'm wrong) it looked like the Bear's job was a bad deal when Fox took it and he helped, along with player's natural development, into a good to great gig for the next guy. Not quite Doug Collins setting the table for Phil Jackson good, but decent nevertheless.
  14. We cut the cable about a year ago Hulu, Netflix, CBS, Amazon Prime, through Roku has been the main go tos. We've picked up Acorn and similar to binge watch certain series then cancel. I only watch a few hours per week so it really hasn't been much of a problem for me, although I haven't found a way to get the Golf Channel which has been a hassle at times.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jan 2, 2018 -> 04:38 PM) People have the right to do whatever they want. Nobody is saying Colin and the others can't kneel during the anthem. However it doesn't have to be a popular move. Again ... like I said, can the average Joe "protest" while at work? The answer is no. You'd be fired in many lines of work for calling attention to yourself via protest. I support Colin's right to do whatever he wants. I'm saying it's not a great way to protest something in a team sport. You are off on your own island. Why not attack the issue in a more productive way when you are offending military by the method you chose? Also you are protesting on company time so to speak when most people can't lest they be fired? Does the average Joe have the opportunity for this kind of protest? At my work we recite the pledges to America and Texas but I bet I'm one of the few here. It's just not a meaningful comparison. People have the option to counter protest by boycotting the NFL, burning merchandise, etc to eventually force their owners (we need a better word don't we?) to stop the protest. This basically begins the process that you will only have the right to speech that your owner approves of. How's that for freedom? Or every working person can support his right to free speech by NOT demanding the player's owners stop the speech. If you truly care about freedoms, they need to be protected. Monsieur l’abbé, je déteste ce que vous écrivez, mais je donnerai ma vie pour que vous puissiez continuer à écrire or in an easier to understand form I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it. The moderators here have used this phrase many, many, times through the years.

  17. Going independent can be scary and exciting with great rewards while inherently riskier. My hat is off to those daring souls who create,

Basically many patriotic Americans demand the same freedoms that the North Koreans, Russians, Chinese, and various dictatorial nations have to show their patriotism. Funny how so many Americans talk with pride about all of our freedoms while demanding that they not be exercised.

QUOTE (KagakuOtoko @ Jan 2, 2018 -> 10:51 AM) Being a silent c**n and learning his place. Come on now man, it's obvious. Please be careful in your wording. Your post can be taken in a couple different ways, including a couple that are against the rules here. Sarcasm should be in green to help some people out.
  20. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 1, 2018 -> 10:54 AM) Gonna keep repeating that, huh Those guys are powerless against agents like Boras.
  21. Korean basketball? How did you get interested in Korean basketball?

I'm looking at LED strips for my 22x12 covered patio. I wouldn't do the house side so 46 feet of lighting would be the number. Maybe just the 20 feet or so along the yard side. If I run the lights along the beam the rafters will be in the way. I'm not certain how to get a straight line of lights without cutting the strip every 12 inches or so and going over it. I haven't seena channel where I could surface mount them and I don't like the look against the cedar.
  23. QUOTE (oldsox @ Dec 31, 2017 -> 09:26 PM) Now most of the announcers are ex players instead of professional announcers. Sign of the times. I always like Enberg, even though he was a young guy. Which does offer some better insights at times. Like I said, I wish there was a better variety.
  24. QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Jan 1, 2018 -> 02:52 AM) I didn't mean that she couldn't fend him off, I mean that is was a 10 minute long struggle. That's a LONG time to be jostling with someone. It obviously doesn't change the story/outcome, but it was likely more like 1-3 minutes and potentially exaggerating some details will lead the defense/Sano's team to say she exaggerated other things too. It depends on the how it ramps up to a really heavy physical encounter.
  25. I remember paying $100 per year to belong to a "club" and having the privilege of renting movies from them. Buying a rewinder to avoid the wear and tear on the VHS player. Redbox doesn't compare to wanding the aisles looking for something that was available and finding a hidden gem. I believe one the last, if nmot the last movie I rented from Blockbuster was a recommendation by SS2k5, Clerks.
