Not WS related but something to discuss since he was a huge part of our team for years.

Sucks to hear. I really hope he comes back strong.

All the talk of the Red Sox letting Sale do what he wants with no restrictions and his subsequent wearing down at the end of each season seems to have taken it's toll. The reports of him throwing harder in Boston than in Chicago seem to have have played a role as well. Some of the articles stating how Boston was going to restrict his innings and change his approach this year were a little too late.

Cooped redeemed

He'll probably be ready for opening day

Sale is one of those guys like Verlander who don't like to come out of games. He's 30 and now needs the surgery. Most guys seem to get the surgery before 30 nowadays so he had a good run.

Well I guess now is as good a time to have TJS as any.

Some are doubting if there will even be a season this year.

He's no Jose Abreu.

His gum lines aren't nearly receded enough from rampant chewing tobacco use. He's got to step up his abuse of chewing tobacco game before he gets on that level.

Apparently Tony Gwynn taught us nothing.

Nobody is suprised

It's not a shock to anyone, including his coaches and Sale. The question is - was it worth it? If there was some sort of a formula that could be calculated how would this score? 5% less effective (innings, stats)  for one more season without surgery? 15% for one more season?

You hate to see any player get injured. Sale though is a special guy ad slways enjoyed his spirit. Hope he recovers soon but I alwats wondered about his arm and he was on the shelf here a time or two with soreness,

He will come back better than before - he'll be able to crush Yeti coolers with his refurbished arm.

able to slash jerseys barehanded

He's angry pitcher!

Sale brought so many good times to us Sox fans. I wish him the best in his recovery.

May be the best pitcher the White Sox have ever had.

Definitely the most dominant.

Nah. Of the top 25 seasons by WAR for Sox pitchers, Sale has zero.

So far, yeah. Giolito and Kopech have a chance to eclipse him.

Sale had his surgery today. I can throw harder than him at the moment.
