  1. I am excited about having a top 3 pick even though I know it's still a crap shoot. Wasn't Jordan a 3 pick?
  2. QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Sep 12, 2017 -> 12:13 PM) Any photogs on the board? I'm debating whether to update my DSLR. I have a Nikon D5000 that I bought 8 years ago. I started reading reviews of some of the newer models and also the mirrorless cameras, so now i'm down the rabbit hole of maybe buying something new. The upgrades seem to be mostly tech upgrades like better autofocusing systems or a touchscreen. Seems like from an image quality perspective there may be a slight bump but not noticeable unless i'm printing off large prints (which I don't do often and when I do they look fine). I'm also debating jumping from Nikon to Canon or even Sony for their mirrorless camera. Problem is I have 3 Nikon lenses so I would have to start over if I jumped to another brand. I take a ton of photos of my kids and we travel a good amount. But I want to start taking more video and I think Canon DSLR's handle that better than the Nikon. I'm also thinking about buying the new Tamron 18-400mm lens. That's an insane focal length range for one lens. This past summer while travelling up the east coast and across Canada we left our Canon DSLR at home and rarely missed it. First time in 30 years I took a vacation without a full bag of camera gear and my picture memories only suffered marginally.
  3. Harvey threaded itself between my son in Brownsville and my daughter in Houston. Her house was safe from the flooding but there was devastation close by. Those that remember FlaSoxxJim might like to know after "camping" without electricity at his house his power was finally restored earlier today. From the pictures he posted he was eating well while cooking on a coleman camp stove.
  4. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jun 20, 2017 -> 11:10 PM) I'd argue it's close down the middle, edge towards Republicans. That tide turned about six years ago on this board. Before that there was a much more active Republican slant to the board. Especially the daytime crowd.
  5. I caught my first bass on a fly and fly rod last weekend. I fished tournaments with Anglers Unlimited in the 80s and 90s. Lots of bass and walleye in the Chain and into Wisconsin. Now I'm near the gulf and well saltwater kicks ass for fishing.
  6. I'm always divided on economic punishment to companies based on the CEOs political views. I can argue both sides with equal zeal.
  7. I really wish Trump would have bought them. Could you image the spectacle?
  8. QUOTE (bmags @ Aug 7, 2017 -> 11:08 AM) And I hope they REFUSE to build something to spec when a reasonable alternative already exists. Don't forget there are pressures from within the community that profit by new stuff getting built. They contribute to campaigns and know how to influence getting stuff they want. An Olympics is a great excuse to spread a little public money into the hands of key supporters under the Olympic rings.
  9. I wonder how the Olympics could be revised to make it lighter and easier for cities to host. One idea worth considering is multiple cities each olympics using existing facilities. You would not have all the athletes in one place at one time, but for security reasons that may not be an issue. I'm thinking TRack and Field in one city, baseball in another, swimming over there, rowing over here, etc.
  10. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 26, 2017 -> 05:27 PM) Yeah, when I've been hitting it good for awhile I then run into lazy habits like last week when I was pulling the club through the zone wide open. Hoping I can get my pro to straighten me out this week. Does your pro have a video locker? Most of the pros here will do a vid analysis between lessons. Great for a quick check.
  11. One of my players verbally committed to a college today. I'm really happy for her. We're avoiding the distractions during the school year. She decided early on D3 so she could play right away and travel. She didn't want to be stuck on campus for a couple years at a D1 school. Plus she was offered 100%, most D1 were going to be partial.
  12. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 25, 2017 -> 09:19 AM) I swear, I play so much better when I haven't picked up a club in 6 months. It's when I'm playing frequently that all the stupid s*** happens. I always played a great round in March when I was living in Chicago. I wasn't overswinging. I would be in balance, making solid contact, and not putting too much pressure on shooting a low round.
  13. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 24, 2017 -> 06:53 AM) So you agree it should be largely (centralized) government-run, tax revenue funded and subsidized? That's where the philosophical problems always begin, which is why I'm to the point where I would prefer to see all the states experiment with their own plans of attack and figure out within 3-4 years what is working so that the best elements can be incorporated into a national plan. And you agree with under 26 provision, no denying for pre-existing conditions, essential health benefits, ceilingson how much you can charge elderly or those with Pre-existing, community rating, mandated fines for non-participation? That last one really drives the GOP nuts, but the House plan directly gives those monies to insurance companies by heavily penalizing those who quit coverage and want to return when sick again. You can't place human rights under corporate profits.
  14. QUOTE (yesterday333 @ Jun 24, 2017 -> 02:06 PM) They are also pulling the brewers out of Helena... which sux for me to see voyagers games. But i wouldnt be surprised to see somebody else put a team here. I think it will be a Rookie League. The AA San Antonio Missions are heading to a new $45,000,000 facility in west Texas, I believe Amarillo. San Antonio picks up the AAA affiliate and plans for a new stadium. 60 years ago the Sky Sox were a Sox affiliate.
  15. QUOTE (shipps @ Jun 23, 2017 -> 04:23 PM) I will never forget the exhilarating moment of trying to create that thread before he noticed he left his account up on the computer. I knew I had a small window of opportunity and he could walk in the office at any moment. This past season a friend of mine and coach at another school went to get something to eat and left his laptop on and logged into his email. While someone was the lookout I fired off an email to a mutual friend asking to be back in the band (he's a drummer) talking about how the guy was his idol and role model, promised to practice more, take private lessons, even willing to play for free. I deleted it from the sent just as he was rounding the corner. It took them a couple more emails to figure out it was me.
  16. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 23, 2017 -> 11:46 PM) I'm just responding to a post. Why don't u guys go after the initial post person and their view of life? I'm not being critical here so please don't take it that way. But since you asked . . . Because you always seem to take a position that places you in opposition to most of the board. Then it becomes a reflex to see a post from Greg775 and assume it must be wrong, and comment. When was the last time you were with the majority in any thread? I can't be the only one that on the rare occasion I agree with you I have to stop and decide if maybe we are both wrong. You are actually a unifier. The only time I see the hardcore Dems and Reps here on the same side of a discussion is to tell you that you are wrong about something. I'm just glad you are so willing to play that role. It keeps things lively back here.
  17. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 24, 2017 -> 12:44 AM) Try to rebut this quote: "It's too dangerous to trust our future to market forces, because these forces invariably do what's good for the market rather than what's best for America, humankind or the world. The hand of the market is blind as well as invisible, and left to its own devices (and with further deregulation looming), capitalism might fail to do anything at all about health care (happening now), the threat of global warming (happening now) or the dangerous potential of increasing artificial intelligence and reliance on complex quantum-computer generated algorithms to substitute for humanistic decisions (soon to occur)" Yuval Noah Harari Parenthetical statements are my contribution... What's to rebut? That clearly supports my position.
  18. Except they are a Brewers affiliate .

  20. QUOTE (ptatc @ Jun 23, 2017 -> 09:16 PM) These are not the same thing. Human rights are very different from insurance companies. Limiting how much profit a company makes is not in the same category as limiting human rights. When a business models needs to limit human rights there is a conflict that needs to be addressed. We already have laws that limit allowable interest on loans. Just one example.
  21. We practice every weekday day from August to May. 120 to 150 minutes. My thirty or so players range from one just shot a 68 in the city championship this week to girls trying to break 120. Some are mental basket-cases, including the guy who may be the key to us advancing to state this coming year. What I try to teach is embracing the process of improving. I talk about how there will be plateaus. My #3 started playing the summer before his freshman year and was breaking 100 by the end of the year. Then he was breaking 90 his sophomore year. That's about a 40 shot drop in two years. He only broke 80 once in a tournament this past year. It was a long frustrating at times year for him. Now that I am coaching my low single digit handicap will probably never happen again. It is really tough for me when I'm struggling to break 90. The worst is the lack of practice has me guessing at distances I hit clubs. Any shaping isn't going to happen. Recover shots are swings and hope. Forget about really reading greens.
  22. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jun 20, 2017 -> 02:59 PM) Daniel Day-Lewis retiring from acting http://variety.com/2017/film/news/daniel-d...ner-1202472766/ There Will Be Blood is my daughter's favorite film of all time. I may just have to watch it tonight.
