  1. Most anyone who was raised in the 60s when it was used in the most vile, degrading way. And yes, there are a lot of us still alive.
  2. I was listening to a conversation on PGA radio about pro golfers having coaches or not and it got me to thinking that in an open market, professional golfers can choose the coach that works best for them, not true in team sports. Baseball players for example are forced to work with whomever the club has hired. I wonder if that is really the best for the player.
  3. Damn, I'm sad to hear that.
  4. I don't believe it was originally intended for upper class people but it sure as hell became that way. Grab a stick and a ball and hit it around an open field was the start. Time and expense is killing the growth of the game. Two hours at Top Golf is cheaper and you hit more balls than a round at a decent public course. Swining a Matzee or other training aid can help between buckets at the range. Chipping and putting at a course is also usually free, but I always felt weird not spending money there. Investing a couple hundred in a launch monitor and a net pays off long term, but there is still the issue with up front affordability.
  5. Which is more important to MLB? Airing an individual player's dirty laundry in public, or the fan's desire to know what he said? I don't know the last time someone was suspended, but the first was almost twenty years ago when John Rocker received 73 games for speech. https://www.nytimes.com/2000/02/01/sports/baseball-baseball-suspends-rocker-till-may-for-comments.html
  6. There is always an inequity when an everyday starter is suspended compared to all other players and pitchers. You could say his rest day just comes sooner, etc. I can think of a few language things that could get a player suspended. Racial, sexual, etc. So I'll save any complaining until we know what he said.
  7. Today's patrons saw a wonderful display of golf.
  8. I keep hearing Pink Floyd . . .

While I agree with almost all you wrote, LaFonda on Main would be my recommendation. Actually, I’d send him to Smoke Shack on Broadway for brisket.

    Interesting reads
  11. And my boys managed a win. First school in twenty years to win both in the same year. I’m beginning to think I can coach.
  12. Most of this is behind a pay wall but the free stuff is interesting https://theathletic.com/903675/2019/04/03/chris-sale-isnt-alarmed-instead-his-second-start-looks-like-the-definition-of-going-out-there-and-just-figuring-it-out/

You need soil temps in the 50s, even better in the 60s. I always paid attention to the night time lows and when they would be in the high 40s I'd get some seed down. Soil prep is really the key. Are you filling in bare spots or seeding an entire lawn?
  14. For insurance USAA has been out go to for everything. Amazing customer service. But you need a military connection.

Or a testimony for a form of government where at some point it just doesn't matter. No one elected official really has so much power that anything changes monumentally in any one direction.
  16. Damn . . . I missed it
  17. I can't imagine all the work in rescheduling a game.
  18. So despite their best efforts to give it away my girl's team won their first ever district title. My #1 double bogeyed 18 both days but managed to shoot 69-70 to win medalist honors. Even with rules officials all over the course we manged to have a little drama. Today begins the boys tournament. We are favored to win, but anything can happen.
  19. My school has a cool tradition, opening day is a jeans and pro baseball team jersey day for the teachers and admin. Sadly, I didn't see another Sox jersey but I did see a couple Cub ones. ?
  20. Obviously I'm not certain on the MLB level but when I was playing every direction was through the catcher, that way everyone was looking at the one guy instead of multiple players, coaches, or the manager.

I just finished the return for my deceased ex-wife. That's a really weird process.
  22. I believe that applies to almost every franchise in almost every sport. I love being at a baseball game. High school, college, independent league, minor league, or major. Sometimes its really fun to not have a dog in the fight.
  23. We just returned from an invitational at the course that is hosting our district and regional tournaments and the greens are the worse I’ve ever seen at a tournament course. Bare spots with poa annua everywhere. My boys won by 12 strokes but my girls came in second four strokes back.

I’m paying about the same. I’m using standard deductions for the first time in years. Raising the deduction made my return simpler.
  25. It's interesting how timing plays into a person's career. So often now it's right player wrong time and players just don't have a career in a city.
