  1. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 28, 2016 -> 03:02 PM) disclaimer: I have the right to my opinion on politics as much as any of you Obama supporters who probably want me banned over this post. Greg, you nicely block trolls from this site thus fulfilling a vital roll. Your posts can unite liberals and conservatives, Cub fans and Sox fans. When you take an interest in a forum, reponses jump through the roof. You are not afraid to make the really incomprehensible, no basis in reality comment to keep the discussion moving. Four of you would make this unreadable, but you entertain. I just wish at some point you will drop the charade and post as yourself. I'm guessing you are really a very bright person because it would take someone really smart and clever to keep up this facade. I also believe you really are a liberal because you set up so many paper tigers which in the end make Obama, Hillary, and the rest of the Dems look good. I have tried to write this without any hint of sarcasm. It is my current assessment after reading so many of your posts.
  2. QUOTE (ptatc @ Jul 27, 2016 -> 03:11 PM) The clubhouse manager does nothing like this. No, it would be the employees he has working for him that he pays separately. Twice removed from the club's influence.
  3. QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Jul 27, 2016 -> 12:57 PM) Agreed. Stupid to say/joke about given Russia IS trying to hack us daily and probably has succeeded, but ultimately I think this is more on the side of Trump being Trump and trying to land a joke about Hillary and her emails, more so than evidence of what Trump will actually do with authority under the executive. And for the record when a Dem says something similar I am not being a hypocrite when I laugh it off.
  4. QUOTE (ptatc @ Jul 27, 2016 -> 01:54 PM) On this we agree. However, this board on politics is just as entertaining as the campaign. How many posts are there promoting a candidate or a position vs. tearing the other candidate down? I think these forums are better than most areas of the internet for decent political discussion. We don't just toss memes back and forth.
  5. Day one I saw three videos "Trump in his Own Words" I only watched Bill's speech last night.
  6. I take that as seriously as I took Perry saying Texas may secede.
  7. Because the US would never try to influence a foreign election. What is fascinating to me is how well this plays for Trump. Clearly people are thumbing their noses at conventional thought. Perhaps looking at Britain we see that this isn't confined to out shores. We've been doing what is right for so long and look what it has gotten us. So it's opposite time.
  8. We would also have to look at the overall audit rates for that industry. It would be nice if being critical of the government insulated you from an audit. But I can see folks in the IRS abusing their positions. I just don't believe it would be limited to political affiliation.
  9. We've killed this topic. But I do find the whole thing fascinating. I can see this 75 years ago. Players weren't making much money, they didn't have Yelp or Tripadvisor. The travel was rough. "Hey kid, here's $3, go get me a burger and shake, keep the change." The players want their money to go to the clubbys, I get that. So the team bills them for 100% of their actual purchases and they are free to tip the staff as much as they like. The team pays the employees a livable wage and they follow applicable labor laws. But in today's world this just seems so silly and antiquated and in need of modernization. It's great that the players want to take care of these people, although my suspicion is more they want to make certain that the team isn't keeping any of the money the player's are paying. (Which is for stuff the team should be paying for anyway).
  10. I think anyone who tries to rank one of these two above or below the other in honesty and character looks foolish. These two are cut from the same cloth. All you can look at are the positions and argue those. But to compare one against the other on any character scale is just scary.
  11. Part of the old system is the CM takes the money from the players and gives it to a restaurant for the food and other expenses. Why is having the team pay the bills through their normal accounts payable system a problem for the players? Part of the old system are quasi team employees not under the direct control of the team. How that has been allowed to go on with modern employment laws, especially for underaged kids, is mind boggling. One article mentioned kids at the stadium at 1:00 am cleaning spikes. That has to be an exaggeration. Get all this on the up and up, allow the players to tip out the clubbys like they want. Have wages, accounts payable and accounts receivable go through the club. It's the most businesslike method of handling it. When the player's leave you can even give them a full accounting of where their money went. If this gets put into the player's contract I can't imagine any other system would be allowed. I'm beginning to wonder what else the players have him buy and do that they don't want teams to know. That is the only thing that is making sense to me.
  12. Where did you see that the clubhouse manager complained? Again, it's a silly system that worked 100 years ago.
  13. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jul 26, 2016 -> 06:54 PM) Rick Sutcliffe wants to make it clear that the Chicago Cubs do not endorse beating one's wife. But if the guy can close . . .
  14. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jul 26, 2016 -> 05:51 PM) There's a couple of ways it could split and end up 269/269, in which case it'd go to the House and we'd end up with President Trump. Well thank you for that little nightmare
  15. What a screwed up system from 100 years ago. So now let's think why the players want to protect the "clubbys"? What else are they providing than food? Personal errands? Arranging dates for the married guys? Perhaps there is more being provided on the $50 per day dues that are collected than above board stuff. $50 does seem steep plus tip.
  16. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 26, 2016 -> 04:30 PM) I think the Dems are going to be WAY more loyal to Hillary, than the Reps are to Trump. Probably at least 2:1, if not a lot more. I sense so much anti-Hillary stuff from my GOP friends that I can't see them paving the way for her. Plus in my lifetime I remember Reagan Democrats but no such reverse situation. I think so many Dems have been burned by the Clinton family that they will look harder than you think.
  17. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Jul 26, 2016 -> 03:41 PM) why do the admins and mods here do so much trolling? I'm honestly asking. It contributes quite a bit to all the arguing and toxicity. Between this post and the trolling by SS2K and Eminor you guys set an awful example. Hard to tell regular posters to behave when the admins and mods can't even bother. You are correct, I should not have posted that.
  18. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 26, 2016 -> 03:50 PM) I don't agree with that at all. What do you set it at? Or how about this, with the Green Party both major candidates will lose about the same percentage tio 3rd party candidates. With historically high unfavorable ratings for both candidates the usual supporters are looking for an alternate.
  19. QUOTE (ptatc @ Jul 26, 2016 -> 03:04 PM) I agree. I just think it will pull more from trump. I agree but more along the lines of 55-45 not 90-10 or something really lopsided.
  20. QUOTE (captain54 @ Jul 26, 2016 -> 03:31 PM) All Sale wanted to get across from the statement was that Ventura wasn't in his corner… "Consider this".. means, keep an open mind before you rush to judgement…..a judgement that as usual, on your part, blindly defends the Sox organization... So you want a manager to back a player who refuses to play and destroys team property?
  21. QUOTE (ptatc @ Jul 26, 2016 -> 03:08 PM) If that's the case then the players should need to for the players to pay at all. This isn't what the mariners are doing. They are taking the players money and doing it as they see fit. Exactly. Like I said they are protecting an antiquated system that needs to go. Actually it could be said the Ms are taking the money and assuring the players are fed. They have hired employees who accepted the position with that pay structure. What we have here are customers refusing to pay because they don't like how the organization is run. Which is fine. Refuse the food, do your own thing. But if you are going to send the guy for food don't stiff the people who paid for the food you ate. For all we know the CM likes the new system. He's not handling the accounts payable for the food or payroll. He's just sharing tips plus he has a higher salary than he would have under their old system. Odd that the players are more worked up than the guy doing the job. Or here's an idea, hire your own guy to get you food in each city. Bypass team employees totally.
  22. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 26, 2016 -> 03:07 PM) Those are the worst jerseys in the history of sports, though. It's not a joke. This is the best pitcher in baseball. Make him pay for the jerseys. Fine him if you must. Pitch him. Now I understand your love for Hillary. Hillary is the best politician in America. Vote her. Ignore her bad behavior. I do admire your consistency across all areas of life.
  23. QUOTE (ptatc @ Jul 26, 2016 -> 01:32 PM) i would think if anything he will pull from the Trump support more than the Clinton support. Normally I would agree. In this case I believe there is a sizable "anyone but these two" contingent that is attracted to any halfway viable candidate that we don't know as much about as these two.
