  1. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jun 22, 2016 -> 06:48 AM) I legitimately have no idea what is supposed to go on I'm this thread anymore. It's a complete Trainwreck. Which LeBron acted in and Michael Jordan starred in Space Jam. Much better than Kazaam for Shaq or that film Durant was in. Airplane with Kareem was clearly the better film. More importantly the Executive Producer Jim Abrahams lined up a bunch of celebrities to appear, Lloyd Bridges, Peter Graves, Julie Hagerty, Robert Hays, Leslie Nielsen, Robert Stack, Barbara Billingsley, James Hong, David Leisure, Maureen McGovern, Ethel f***ing Merman, Jimmie JJ Walker, for near minimum scale payments thus generating more profits than Spaceballs. But here is the big difference, he was also one of the directors, along with David Zucker and Jerry Zucker. So not only did he sign those actors, he directed them. You didn't have a situation where the producer could blame the director for not getting the best out of the actors he signed and the director could not complain that the actors that were signed sucked. And when there was a crisis in post production they had the financial flexibility to bring in Bill Henderson and David Hudson to fix the sound. Fortunately they were not under contract with another studio at the time.
  2. You should be licking your chops if you have Boston this week in a 13 run pool. Anybody still do 13 run pools?
  3. Questioning everything is healthy in any organization. What this may highlight the most is how razor sharp the differences are between teams and how well teams in general are at running their businesses. I remember a sales lesson long ago and far away when the guy I was working with explained how you don't have to be twice as good as the next person, just a little bit better.
  4. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Jun 21, 2016 -> 03:00 PM) JR has laughed at those estimates saying that they have no idea how much he really owns. "Reinsdorf reportedly owned 4 percent to 5 percent of the team at the beginning but has gradually increased his stake. Four partners told the Tribune that Reinsdorf now owns 14 percent. Reinsdorf said that figure is "significantly understated" but declined to provide another amount. "No partner knows what I own," Reinsdorf said"" http://articles.chicagotribune.com/2013-07...chael-reinsdorf "No partner knows what I own," Reinsdorf said" Wow. I wonder how the deal is structured that no one knows how much he owns. That seems really strange.
  5. I feel myself getting excited then I think of the ghosts of high draft picks past and sigh. Throw some chips on the table and spin the roulette wheel . . .
  6. QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Jun 21, 2016 -> 01:44 PM) The first is unlikely since someone would have said something by now about another suspect. The second is also unlikely since police procedure is basically public knowledge at this point. Every cable network has some police procedure expert on the payroll. And these were 911 calls anyway. Not sure they included any of the negotiations, but maybe they do. Insensitivity seems like a stretch. I think we all know this was to soften the "another Islamic terrorist" response. I thought they were still investigating his wife and was't there some talk that someone on the inside was helping him?
  7. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 21, 2016 -> 11:06 AM) Trade all major league quality players for prospects. Then next winter sign some minor league free agents to play for the major league team. Have a horrible team that will be lucky to win 50 games, it will be paradise. No one will complain about management anymore. No one will blame the manager when the line up doesn't feature one player that would start on the opposing team. No one will blame the hitting coach when guys who struggle in AAA aren't hitting very well at the major league level. And if the majority of prospects bust, everyone will understand.
  8. QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Jun 21, 2016 -> 10:51 AM) Right, then why censor the transcript in any way? Why isn't it verbatim? I would think either because charges are pending against other individuals or there was some protocol they do not wish to reveal. The first seems possible the second may be more theoretical. Also could it be insensitive to one of the victims?
  9. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jun 21, 2016 -> 07:11 AM) Everyone is shocked that the Senate voted down another gun control bill this week, so soon after this shooting. If very little changed after Sandy Hook, I can't imagine a worse scenario than that to make those politicians change their minds. I was thinking that if we can't look at laws too soon after a mass shooting, when will we? It seems like we've had one every few months for the past few years.
  10. I pay taxes just like the rest of you and tax increases take away bigger chunks than go it. Most of the teachers around me are conservative not liberal. Shall we generalize about all attorneys being ACLU leaning liberals from the upper midwest and east who like to sue Texas oil companies for the environment?
  11. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 21, 2016 -> 12:55 PM) Sounds a lot like the moment I had this weekend...you just weren't aware that your fly was down. I was walking on father's day at an outdoor mall with my son (my wife and daughter were in another store) and I noticed that 3 straight sets of girls were all looking at me. After the 1st one, I sent a text to my wife to give her a hard time, than all of a sudden a 2nd and 3rd set of girls are giving me the eye as well. At this point I figured something must be up and I look down and my 14 month old is busting moves in the stroller to the music that is playing. awesome
  12. Sometimes it takes a really crappy performance for an injury to appear.

    Rick Hahn

QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Jun 21, 2016 -> 12:23 PM) A poster at another Sox web site, compiled a list of positive and negative items in their opinion Hahn has done. I submit it here without comment for discussion purposes since that seems to be a running debate right now. "There are basically 4 things I think Hahn has done well, and 2 of them are contract based. 1.) Sale's contract 2.) Quintana's contract 3.) Sign Abreu 4.) Trade for Eaton The rest of his timeline as GM is a mess. 1.) Chose Flowers over Pierzynski 2.) Jeff Keppinger for $12 million 3.) Traded Matt Thornton (who was still productive last year and has played in the postseason) for no MLB talent. 4.) Traded Jake Peavy (who went on to contribute for 2 World Series champs) into Avisail Garcia 5.) Traded Alex Rios (who went on to contribute for a World Series champ) into Leury Garcia. 6.) Extended Robin Ventura 7.) Paul Konerko's last 2 years for $16 million 8.) Addison Reed for Matt Davidson 9.) Rushed Rodon to MLB 10.) Traded Dunn, Beckham, and De Aza (2 of the 3 having an impact on postseason games) for no MLB talent 11.) Adam LaRoche for $25 million 12.) Jeff Samardzija for Marcus Semien, Josh Phegley, and $10 million 13.) Melky Cabrera for $42 million 14.) David Robertson for $46 million 15.) Todd Frazier for Trayce Thompson, Micah Johnson, and $16.5 million 16.) Mat Latos 17.) Jimmy Rollins 18.) Waiting at least 2 years too long before releasing John Danks 19.) James Shields for Erik Johnson and $27 million 20.) Has refused to fire the coaching staff. 21.) Spent five million on utility infielders Beckham and Bonifacio who did nothing." Feel free to comment on what you think. I agree with some of the items, disagree with some others. Mark Just a few that jump out at me . . . 1. Two evils. I prefer AJ but that is more a 55% 65% choice not an overwhelming mistake. 3. Good move that worked out bad. It looked good at the time. 5. Who didn't want Rios gone? Hell the #1 complaint was he took too long to move him. 7. Probably not his call. Loyalty was repaid. 11. Looked like a win at the time. Everyone was surprised. You make a deal. Usually if the guy performs as expected it's an ok deal. The player performs better than expected the player lost the negotiations and the team won. The player performs worst than expected and the player won the negotiations and the team lost. But I keep coming back to if the guy keeps running into bad luck with these moves, than maybe we need a different guy. William S. Burroughs once said when you hire a lawyer all you buy is his luck. Maybe that's why we hire GMs (Or fire).

Just because a move works out doesn't mean it was a good move and just because a move doesn't work out means it was a bad move. Consensus top draft picks haven't panned out, low round draft picks have had Hall of Fame careers. As a fan we don't know all the parameters that a GM has to work with. Having set that premise I wonder how to accurately judge the GM. So it seems to me there aren't objective data points to praise the GM. So it becomes subjective by the owner. We seem to dislike wins as a statistic that matters. However, if there is one person who should be judged by wins and loses, it's the GM. The more I think about this in a fair and calm manner the more I come to the conclusion that K-Dub and Hahn-man should probably head on down the road and start over with a different franchise. K-Dub has had ten years to either maintain a championship team or to build one and he has failed. Once the new GM and VP Ops is in place they should have an opportunity ti hire an new manager who in turn should have the opportunity to bring in a new staff. Yes, that means that Cooper may be gone. The dominoes just keep falling. But there is a success level that has been established, a WS appearance, and after 10 more attempts it is just time to restart. I an usually the last person to believe a wholesale house cleaning is in order, but it just seems like the time.
  15. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Jun 20, 2016 -> 10:20 PM) That wouldn't explain changing Allah to God. Why wouldn't you translate everything? Either way they would be open to criticism.
  16. Easy prediction. We score two runs in the top of the inning, then give up three in the bottom. Killing this 6 pack.
  17. QUOTE (StrykerSox @ Jun 20, 2016 -> 09:04 PM) Why should we fire Robin? Did Robin make Putnam walk the bases loaded? Did he make Robertson incapable of completing an inning yesterday? Said he make Shields historically s***ty? Robin isn't perfect, but he is not the reason this team sucks. No one person is even 25% responsible. But one of the guys you pay to make the 25 guys who get dirty better is Robin. Swapping that is the one chance to change the other 25. Sucks, but it comes with the job.
  18. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jun 20, 2016 -> 08:44 PM) I think the fact that Rick Hahn is in Boston is a bigger deal than people think too. Could be posturing and adding a little pressure.
  19. But when was the last time a team lost on a foul ball catch in the seats. f*** at least do something different.
  20. QUOTE (sin city sox fan @ Jun 20, 2016 -> 09:02 PM) If he went into the seats, the runner tags and game is ova That too
  21. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 20, 2016 -> 08:25 PM) When it's Jason Coats it really isn't giving up an out. It is making said out productive. Because hoping he'll get hit by a pitch is the only other option
  22. I am so glad I am not following the game on TV. Instead I think I'll just go outside and slam my fingers in the truck door. I usually avoid posting in the game threads and don't read them often, but for some reason I really want to destroy any remaining hope I had for this season.
  23. The courts have ruled that you can say a ton of s*** about public officials before anyone loses a lawsuit.
  24. QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Jun 20, 2016 -> 12:48 PM) Why is the Obama admn censoring out portions of the Orlando shooter's 911 calls? I could think of a couple things. One being to reveal some of the protocol that law enforcement uses in these situations. Another maybe evidence against someone else that they do not want the person to know before a case can be made against them.
