  1. I can't imagine worst news.
  2. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jul 26, 2016 -> 06:54 PM) Rick Sutcliffe wants to make it clear that the Chicago Cubs do not endorse beating one's wife. But if the guy can close . . .
  3. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jul 26, 2016 -> 05:51 PM) There's a couple of ways it could split and end up 269/269, in which case it'd go to the House and we'd end up with President Trump. Well thank you for that little nightmare
  4. What a screwed up system from 100 years ago. So now let's think why the players want to protect the "clubbys"? What else are they providing than food? Personal errands? Arranging dates for the married guys? Perhaps there is more being provided on the $50 per day dues that are collected than above board stuff. $50 does seem steep plus tip.
  5. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 26, 2016 -> 04:30 PM) I think the Dems are going to be WAY more loyal to Hillary, than the Reps are to Trump. Probably at least 2:1, if not a lot more. I sense so much anti-Hillary stuff from my GOP friends that I can't see them paving the way for her. Plus in my lifetime I remember Reagan Democrats but no such reverse situation. I think so many Dems have been burned by the Clinton family that they will look harder than you think.
  6. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Jul 26, 2016 -> 03:41 PM) why do the admins and mods here do so much trolling? I'm honestly asking. It contributes quite a bit to all the arguing and toxicity. Between this post and the trolling by SS2K and Eminor you guys set an awful example. Hard to tell regular posters to behave when the admins and mods can't even bother. You are correct, I should not have posted that.
  7. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 26, 2016 -> 03:50 PM) I don't agree with that at all. What do you set it at? Or how about this, with the Green Party both major candidates will lose about the same percentage tio 3rd party candidates. With historically high unfavorable ratings for both candidates the usual supporters are looking for an alternate.
  8. QUOTE (ptatc @ Jul 26, 2016 -> 03:04 PM) I agree. I just think it will pull more from trump. I agree but more along the lines of 55-45 not 90-10 or something really lopsided.
  9. QUOTE (captain54 @ Jul 26, 2016 -> 03:31 PM) All Sale wanted to get across from the statement was that Ventura wasn't in his corner… "Consider this".. means, keep an open mind before you rush to judgement…..a judgement that as usual, on your part, blindly defends the Sox organization... So you want a manager to back a player who refuses to play and destroys team property?
  10. QUOTE (ptatc @ Jul 26, 2016 -> 03:08 PM) If that's the case then the players should need to for the players to pay at all. This isn't what the mariners are doing. They are taking the players money and doing it as they see fit. Exactly. Like I said they are protecting an antiquated system that needs to go. Actually it could be said the Ms are taking the money and assuring the players are fed. They have hired employees who accepted the position with that pay structure. What we have here are customers refusing to pay because they don't like how the organization is run. Which is fine. Refuse the food, do your own thing. But if you are going to send the guy for food don't stiff the people who paid for the food you ate. For all we know the CM likes the new system. He's not handling the accounts payable for the food or payroll. He's just sharing tips plus he has a higher salary than he would have under their old system. Odd that the players are more worked up than the guy doing the job. Or here's an idea, hire your own guy to get you food in each city. Bypass team employees totally.
  11. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 26, 2016 -> 03:07 PM) Those are the worst jerseys in the history of sports, though. It's not a joke. This is the best pitcher in baseball. Make him pay for the jerseys. Fine him if you must. Pitch him. Now I understand your love for Hillary. Hillary is the best politician in America. Vote her. Ignore her bad behavior. I do admire your consistency across all areas of life.
  12. QUOTE (ptatc @ Jul 26, 2016 -> 01:32 PM) i would think if anything he will pull from the Trump support more than the Clinton support. Normally I would agree. In this case I believe there is a sizable "anyone but these two" contingent that is attracted to any halfway viable candidate that we don't know as much about as these two.
  13. Let's start an all-time list of players who have refused to play because of the jersey 1. Chris Sale Anyone know of anyone else? In the history of sports?
  14. QUOTE (ptatc @ Jul 26, 2016 -> 12:57 PM) The organization already pays the employees. The money from the players is for the food and tips, but it's not mandatory they do this. I'm not sure if the results are that there is no food for the sox players next time they come to town but the players are under no obligation to pay. There is usually a standing order or a player rep contacts the clubhouse manager to order the food the players want. it's just standard practice. Which was fine 50 years ago when the players rode buses and made workingmen salaries. Now we have millionaires riding in private planes. Feed the players. They don't have to make their own plane reservations, why bother with food like this? Hey guys we're in Texas who wants Whataburger?
  15. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 26, 2016 -> 02:11 PM) You're a very smart guy and successful professional and I've noticed you have strong feelings about this. In the final analysis you are probably right. I have taken the side of Sale on this, assuming he didn't wield the knife near any other human being, just ripped up the uniforms. I will say if Sale had just torn up his uniform and refused to pitch, that would have been more effective. He would have had the hammer of public opinion on his side: "Cy Young candidate doesn't feel comfortable in collared throwback jersey, does not want to risk health of his arm and performance, refused to pitch.' That would have really embarrassed the Sox. Sale should have thought this through. Just destroying his own uniform or throwing it in the trash without a knife incident would have made him a hero. Hey no billion dollar pitcher should risk his arm health if he's not motivated to pitch that day. I guess you are right in whipping out a knife like a madman by the letter of employment law might warrant a suspension. I wish Sale had done it the other way though to embarrass the White Sox. I really feel it is a horrible organizaion. Now everyone take Sale's side so Greg switches This is right up there with Koufax refusing to pitch on the sabbath.
  16. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 26, 2016 -> 12:41 PM) This is where the focus should be. Not only did he cost us a start, but he destroyed our bullpen for the time being, which have seen ripple across the last two days of forcing the pen into a really bad situation and forcing guys to be unavailable to do their normal jobs. If Chris Sale doesn't get that you wear the promotional jersey on a promotional day, I'm not sure what else there really is to explain to the guy. This should be about the most obvious thing ever. If your boss tells you to wear something to work, you wear it. Period. Agreed. Compare this to the "problem" that Jordan had during the Olympics. Puma (iirc) was the uniform sponsor. Rather than be photographed wearing Puma gear, Jordan wrapped himself in an American flag. I wish I could give Sale the benefit of a doubt and say there probably was other things bothering him and this was the outlet. Dunn went a season with extra stress we only learned later. So maybe he's having other issues besides the bullpen blowing wins for him and a uniform that isn't comfortable.
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 26, 2016 -> 12:32 PM) And I thought you were a teacher... Now if the players want to buy me a beer and a hotdog . . .
  18. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 26, 2016 -> 12:31 PM) Seriously. How this is even a thing is beyond me. It's an opportunity to complain about the organization and Robin during a frustrating season. If the team was winning, in the race, and Sale missed a start because he didn't like the uniform he'd be the one getting attacked for not being a team player and hurting *our* chances to win the division.
  19. QUOTE (ptatc @ Jul 26, 2016 -> 12:19 PM) The laundry falls under the entire same system. The scenario is a little different. It's against the law to not pay the waitress. The players to not have to pay here. The players do it to give big tips to the clubbies while understanding that a portion goes to paying for the food. In this case the players tipped the clubbies directly instead of giving it to the clubhouse manager to distribute. It's just a pain to have to find them individually. The article states they pay $50 per day for food PLUS tip. Again, this seems so antiquated. Management pays players so they can pay management's other employees. "I'm going to pay you $200,000 per year. But *you* will pay the IT guy that supports you and the cleaning lady. The company isn't responsible for their salaries. And this is part of a multiple billion dollar organization?!
  20. QUOTE (ptatc @ Jul 26, 2016 -> 12:22 PM) It doesn't really matter. A 20 something year old man shouldn't act like that. There is nothing management should need to do to keep someone from acting like this. It is on him and him alone. He can be mad about it but no one should ever act like this. I'm trying to decide at what age it is appropriate to act this way.
  21. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 26, 2016 -> 02:01 AM) Bernie got screwed so badly the Democrats should be happy he wasn't on the attack during his speech. It's criminal what was done to him by his own party. Cruel. I have no idea why the DNC fixed it for Hillary. Every speaker at the Democratic convention gets high grades. It's the way the analysts roll. This is the time of year they amp it up to make sure Hillary wins in a landslide. OMG the reviews of her speech are going to be "Best speech ever." "Hillary Clinton is one of the finest speakers to ever grace a convention floor. What a speech! Historic (cue tears)." It's easy to predict rave reviews for her speech because she is the best speaker I have heard during this campaign. Powerful. Engaging. It's like predicting critics will love the next Robert Downey or Leo DiCaprio movie. It's not a conspiracy. She alone can bring America together. The Dems have done a great job of pulling together the best and brightest in America and who are effective in sharing their message. Most everyone can see that Hillary is clearly what America needs now. Thankfully the DNC also realized that and helped where they could. Of course the RNC tried to steal the nomination from Trump, as he correctly alleged. His supporters only grew stronger and more resolved until he was locked in. So here's the game. The RNC has to deal with the guy they didn't want and the DNC get's their candidate. Game. Set. Match. Democrats. Sorry Greg, you are losing this one. Kansas may want to succeed.
  22. No matter what Robin did posters here would say it was wrong.
  23. QUOTE (ptatc @ Jul 26, 2016 -> 11:39 AM) Part of it is the management arbitrarily saying that 60% goes to the management for food and only 40% stays in the clubhouse. They may think thats a little light and management it sticking their nose in a players transaction. I'm also sure that the players do care who pays and orders the food as again its a clubhouse activity and it should all stay there. I'm not saying it's necessarily right but from being in the clubhouses, the players get very protective of the clubbies I'm not certain it is arbitrary. It may have been about the amount of the food invoices. It seems like an antiquated system that needs an overhaul. I wonder if the laundry works the same way? Do the players pay someone to do wash their uniforms? And what about this angle? I finish dinner at a restaurant and ask the waitress about her pay. I don't like the answer so I refuse to pay my bill.
  24. Management should be out of the tips. Management should be in the procurement of the food and paying salaries and setting workplace rules. Which is what the M's seem to be trying to do. Why should the player's care who pays the food vendor? Using the restaurant analogy your waiter would be buying the food from a vendor, paying the bus boy, paying the bartender, etc.
  25. Here's an idea if they do make the change. Touchdowns result in the ball starting on the 20, field goals on the 30 or even 35.
