QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Jun 24, 2016 -> 07:21 AM) I don't know much about the story but is the gist a white girl, with bad grades, sued UT because they denied her admission? As simple and complex as that. (The poor thing had to go to LSU). She was just outside the top 10% of her class so she didn't receive automatic admissions. Then her test scores were sub par. There is also debate within Texas with the 10% rule. Top 10% at a weaker high school compared to top 10% at a rigorous top magnet/private high school is a big difference.

Our system prevents any one person from destroying us. Checks and balances and all. As long as "his party" stands up to his crazier ideas we'll be fine. This is one reason I like having Congress controlled by a different party than the White House. Something we always seem to do during mid term elections. We benefit when we employ the best of both party platforms.

QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Jun 23, 2016 -> 12:28 PM) Be that as it may, it's ridiculous that we continue to have a policy of "race cannot be a basis for making decisions ... unless you're white and then it's fine!" SCOTUS just keeps eroding the protections of the Constitution every time it makes exceptions to a pretty clear rule - no discrimination based on race and equal rights under the law. Justifying discrimination by saying diversity is a goal is just nonsense. I agree. It's just a little odd in college admissions. Having a diverse, world wide representation of students creates a rich and powerful learning environment. As you know most of what you learn in college is from your fellow students. Mixing prior knowledge from around the world, not just from Texas public schools, improves the university. It is also ironic that the woman who first brought the suit would not have been admitted if she were a minority. She didn't qualify academically. I have real mixed feelings on this. I agree that using race in most instances is wrong. About the only area I see a basis is education where it does improve the overall product. It's almost like hiring actors for a production. You know what you want the end product to look like and you hire the actors that make the production best.

I love the Dailymail but it isn't always very reliable. About on par with the Enquirer. But you know they break a real story now and then.

I don't think you get shot. I'll bet $50 you make it to dawn alive.

I would have take 3-1 with Shield going 5 innings and only being charged with 3 runs. Plus they won a couple they would have lost last week, -

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jun 22, 2016 -> 02:51 PM) How often is it that both fanbases think it is a terrible trade? Wow, I was on my patio roof and decided I didn't even want to listen. Shields threw 5 innings and only gave up three, how did he look? -

QUOTE (SoCalSox @ Jun 23, 2016 -> 12:20 PM) Personally, I'm leaving him in there to get it figured out. If you're going to lose, might as well try to get some innings out of him. I'd have him toss 100 pitches. Hopefully that gets him out of the 3rd. -
How do y'all evaluate a repair shop? I thought I needed brake pads (65,000 miles) and went looking at local shops. The dealerships in my area all require appointments. There is a Goodyear shop less than a mile or so from my house. A small looks like it has been there forever shop with lots of cars outside. And a really nice looking independent shop with pretty good reviews.

I'd be happy with 5 runs in 5 innings for this start. Sad but true.

QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Jun 23, 2016 -> 09:56 AM) SCOTUS upholds discriminatory practice of Univ of Texas admissions. Race is ok to consider as a factor. Love the double standard of affirmative action. UT is in a tough situation. The Top 10% rule (any Texas student who graduates in the top 10% if their class can pick any Texas public university for guaranteed admission) really stifles any attempt at diversifying their classes. http://www.texasmonthly.com/burka-blog/the...-rule-on-trial/

It's Hillary versus the Don. What do you expect? The debate has sunk to the same level as the candidates.

QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Jun 23, 2016 -> 11:37 AM) Sounds like the judge had a serious issue with the prosecution continually using the phrase "rough ride" without offering any evidence or explanation for what that meant or what specifically the driver did to make it a rough ride: http://baltimore.cbslocal.com/2016/06/23/o...his-fate-today/ I can appreciate that argument. It still makes me shake my head in disbelief. I assume that the prosecutor was using "rough ride" in the cop vernacular not the standard English meaning. So they would need to define it and prove the definition was used by the cops involved.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 23, 2016 -> 11:08 AM) Everything is lined up against him here. Awful for 4 starts, usually awful at Fenway. Maybe things are so lined up to go wrong, it will be the opposite. That's what I like about you Dick, you dream big! -
QUOTE (Footlongcomiskeydog @ Jun 23, 2016 -> 10:22 AM) Textbook definition of coach-speak by Cooper here. Shields is gonna be fine eventually, but there is no guarantee on when that will happen! Or where

We're the group of teenagers that hears a noise in the creepy basement and goes to investigate. You know it isn't going to turn out well but you just can't stay away. -
Robin Ventura should definitely, certainly be fired today

I'll take a 5.42 today. When one article said they were handing the to Shields I thought he was reassigned as the janitor. Boston's best starter against the current edition of Shields. Too bad teams can't just agree to a result. "Hey, we're going to catch and early flight y'all mind if we miss the game tonight?"

I read this while drinking coffee. I'm going to come back later after a few drinks and see if it makes more sense.

I know that pretty much the entire organization should be fired but I was looking at the beginning of the game and whoever is responsible for cleaning the uniforms should keep his job.
