2016 Republican Thread
QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 31, 2016 -> 03:10 PM) Unless something new is revealed, the email thing is old news. No need to ask her about it. The FBI saved her on that issue and that's that. It'd be like asking her about Lewinsky and her husband's behavior there. Old news. Clintons survived both without a scar, as usual. Our country is in love with the Clintons no matter what they do. I wish I had the kind of money they have built up. Setting up posts to make Hillary look good. Nicely done. Instead of Trump's money? Trump doesn't know Russian's aggressive advances, he gets a pass. He insults a fire marshal for enforcing the law, gets a pass. Claims a Mexican American judge can't be unbiased in his rulings, gets a pass. Mocks a disabled reporter, gets a pass. Commits fraud, gets a pass. Won't release his tax returns, gets a pass. That's all old news. Hillary does any of that and the GOP will spend a few million on special investigations.

Electric Lawn Mower
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 29, 2016 -> 01:20 PM) My honda was purchased in 1983, still runs. They are the best When I ran the Boy Scout camp we had a Honda and a Deere. Both worked amazingly well. I think I prefered the Honda because it was slightly quieter. The Deere seemed to start easier.

Electric Lawn Mower
The water district here in San Antonio offers $100 towards drought resistance plants to replace 200 square feet of lawn. We have so far replaced about 1000 square feet of lawn with gardens. The area must be mulched to help conserve water. Bonus is we have a butterfly and hummingbird haven. With several sitting areas we enjoy the gardens. Of course this does not work with kids who want to play in the yard.

Rowand will manage AZL fall team
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 30, 2016 -> 10:16 AM) I expect an announcement that Thome (and eventually, AJ) will be similarly involved in the offseason....coaching in PR, Venezuela, etc. Who are the OTHER most likely options out there right now? Sandy Alomar, Jr.? Dave Martinez (again)? I guess we should be scouring the Red Sox, Blue Jays, Rangers, Astros, Tigers, Royals, Orioles, Indians, Cubs, etc., for someone more qualified...and, of course, it would have been nice to see what Renteria could do with this current group instead of letting Ventura serve out the final two months of his lame duck status. Konerko . . .

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jul 30, 2016 -> 11:07 PM) Hillary Clinton accepts 25 million dollar donation from George Soros, the same day she pledges to get the money out of politics. Soxtalk will defend this. The only way to get elected during this election is to accept hundreds of millions of dollars in donations. The only way to get money out of politics is by being elected. So it would seem that you have to play the game, win the game, to change the game.

QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Jul 29, 2016 -> 04:42 PM) Don't forget "white cops will kill you just for walking down the street!" http://www.fathers.com/about-ncf/our-team/carey-casey/ I just came back from listening to Carey Casey address the coaches in our school district. He was a professional athlete, well educated at Carolina, has been invited to the White House with both Republicans (Bush 1,000 POints of Life) and Democrats (Obama). He lives in a very nice area of Kansas City. He had to teach his boys how to interact with the police. He was worried enough as a black father in America to teach his boys that some cops will treat you with disrepect because you are black. How many white fathers have that same fear?

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 29, 2016 -> 01:50 PM) I don't like discussing the slavery issue so I'll comment on this and Hillary instead. Slavery makes me sad and the thought of it makes me sad. At this time I'd rather forget that we actually were cruel enough to have slaves in this country. Disgraceful. Anyhow Tex's post is crazy. Maybe there was a compliment in there somewhere; I'll take it. I don't know how I block trolls. I've said it before. I am fiercely loyal to former Sox who were good, like most members of the '05 team. I feel like most of my predictions have logic in them and many come true. It's no act. I don't like Hillary. But Newt is right. Most people feel America is not safe. You conveniently didn't comment on that surgeon moving his family out of America to his homeland cause he felt our country was too dangerous. That's powerful. Hate to break it to the Hillary supporters, but I just read several reviews of her speech: cliche ridden and not good. CNN.com in fact said people left wanting several other of the speakers to be the candidate not Hillary. Greg deftly moves the conversation past the slave issue and on to other things. A few non sequiturs, new topics, and we move on. Well played. It's like a concert conductor.

QUOTE (BrianAnderson @ Jul 27, 2016 -> 09:53 AM) I'll take the other side. I like it. But I also was one who showed up early to make sure I secured my Sox Hawaiian Shirt back in June. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I don't like the bill, but I'd wear it (which is a sure sign that it is ugly).

Japan knife attack
I did a little checking. I looked at satellite news reports from 100, 200, 300 years ago and I couldn't find any reports of attacks in Japan like this. Anywhere in the world for that matter. Then I watched the Andy Griffith Show for what America was like 50 years ago and there wasn't any violent crime in Mayberry. Otis would lock himself up when he got too drunk. Some times some rowdy kid from Mount Pilot would come screeching through town but Andy could always handle that. People only started being mean to each other and killing each other a couple decades ago.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 28, 2016 -> 03:02 PM) disclaimer: I have the right to my opinion on politics as much as any of you Obama supporters who probably want me banned over this post. Greg, you nicely block trolls from this site thus fulfilling a vital roll. Your posts can unite liberals and conservatives, Cub fans and Sox fans. When you take an interest in a forum, reponses jump through the roof. You are not afraid to make the really incomprehensible, no basis in reality comment to keep the discussion moving. Four of you would make this unreadable, but you entertain. I just wish at some point you will drop the charade and post as yourself. I'm guessing you are really a very bright person because it would take someone really smart and clever to keep up this facade. I also believe you really are a liberal because you set up so many paper tigers which in the end make Obama, Hillary, and the rest of the Dems look good. I have tried to write this without any hint of sarcasm. It is my current assessment after reading so many of your posts.

White Sox players protested in Seattle
QUOTE (ptatc @ Jul 27, 2016 -> 03:11 PM) The clubhouse manager does nothing like this. No, it would be the employees he has working for him that he pays separately. Twice removed from the club's influence.

2016 Democratic Thread
QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Jul 27, 2016 -> 12:57 PM) Agreed. Stupid to say/joke about given Russia IS trying to hack us daily and probably has succeeded, but ultimately I think this is more on the side of Trump being Trump and trying to land a joke about Hillary and her emails, more so than evidence of what Trump will actually do with authority under the executive. And for the record when a Dem says something similar I am not being a hypocrite when I laugh it off.

QUOTE (ptatc @ Jul 27, 2016 -> 01:54 PM) On this we agree. However, this board on politics is just as entertaining as the campaign. How many posts are there promoting a candidate or a position vs. tearing the other candidate down? I think these forums are better than most areas of the internet for decent political discussion. We don't just toss memes back and forth.

Because the US would never try to influence a foreign election. What is fascinating to me is how well this plays for Trump. Clearly people are thumbing their noses at conventional thought. Perhaps looking at Britain we see that this isn't confined to out shores. We've been doing what is right for so long and look what it has gotten us. So it's opposite time.

We would also have to look at the overall audit rates for that industry. It would be nice if being critical of the government insulated you from an audit. But I can see folks in the IRS abusing their positions. I just don't believe it would be limited to political affiliation.

White Sox players protested in Seattle
We've killed this topic. But I do find the whole thing fascinating. I can see this 75 years ago. Players weren't making much money, they didn't have Yelp or Tripadvisor. The travel was rough. "Hey kid, here's $3, go get me a burger and shake, keep the change." The players want their money to go to the clubbys, I get that. So the team bills them for 100% of their actual purchases and they are free to tip the staff as much as they like. The team pays the employees a livable wage and they follow applicable labor laws. But in today's world this just seems so silly and antiquated and in need of modernization. It's great that the players want to take care of these people, although my suspicion is more they want to make certain that the team isn't keeping any of the money the player's are paying. (Which is for stuff the team should be paying for anyway).

I think anyone who tries to rank one of these two above or below the other in honesty and character looks foolish. These two are cut from the same cloth. All you can look at are the positions and argue those. But to compare one against the other on any character scale is just scary.

Part of the old system is the CM takes the money from the players and gives it to a restaurant for the food and other expenses. Why is having the team pay the bills through their normal accounts payable system a problem for the players? Part of the old system are quasi team employees not under the direct control of the team. How that has been allowed to go on with modern employment laws, especially for underaged kids, is mind boggling. One article mentioned kids at the stadium at 1:00 am cleaning spikes. That has to be an exaggeration. Get all this on the up and up, allow the players to tip out the clubbys like they want. Have wages, accounts payable and accounts receivable go through the club. It's the most businesslike method of handling it. When the player's leave you can even give them a full accounting of where their money went. If this gets put into the player's contract I can't imagine any other system would be allowed. I'm beginning to wonder what else the players have him buy and do that they don't want teams to know. That is the only thing that is making sense to me.
