Golfing Thread
My team shot 84-88-88-94 tossing out the 97. Middle of the pack on a rough day. We'll never catch the top teams that have line ups of 5 guys that all break 80, but we're respectable.

"Best off-season job ever."
QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Mar 5, 2015 -> 10:52 PM) I guess we know who is the official White Sox whipping boy for the year. Seriously all this Beckham hate for a utility dude who didn't become what we all wanted him to be is a bit overboard. He's just another failed prospect in a long line of failed prospects. He'll either find his niche or be out of baseball soon enough. If he had tried and failed in another organization it would be so much different. But we all have memories or the rise and fall. It's hard to dismiss that. But yeah, treating him as anything more than a utility player and role model is probably too much.

Looking for a new Kitchen Stove/Range
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Mar 5, 2015 -> 12:05 PM) It depends on what you're cooking and how important temp control is. The temp control is very solid on the new electrics. Where gas has it beat is when you need to raise or lower the temp in a hurry. The old coils were not very good at that. The newer technology is better, but still not the same as gas. But for consistent, one temp cooking over time, electric has been fine.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 5, 2015 -> 02:32 PM) Congratulations! Agree on pictures, also to add, you can never spend too much time holding/snuggling that baby. I always loved the middle of the night feedings. The house was quiet, just my baby and me, rocking and feeding. Plus, you are the greatest husband for getting up and letting your wife sleep. Congratulations dad.

2015 Pro Golf Tours Thread + Fantasy Golf Challenge
QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Mar 5, 2015 -> 11:38 AM) I've never played fantasy golf but I'd be up for trying. Go to http://fantasy.golfchannel.com/ sign up for a free account and look for the league soxtalk password is 2005champs (yeah I know original) The basic idea is each week you will be presented with four groupings of players. You pick one player in each group that you believe will do the best at that weeks tournament. Points are awarded based on the prize money that player has earned.

2015 Pro Golf Tours Thread + Fantasy Golf Challenge
Pro tournaments are a lot of fun. Fans kind of settle into a couple routines. Pick a spot and stay. You get to see everyone, see how each do on a certain hole, and if the location is great you will have food, drink, and bathrooms close by. Par 3s are popular for that. Next is the pick a player or group and follow them for 18 holes. Watching how they approach the game, etc. is a great learning experience. When I volunteer at tournaments I always ask to be a scorer's assistant (standard bearer) Walking 18 inside the ropes with the players is a lot of fun. A buddy and I use to walk hole #1 with a group, wait and follow the next group on #2, etc.

2015 Pro Golf Tours Thread + Fantasy Golf Challenge
At Doral my Golf Channel fantasy picks are Rory McIlroy, Jim Furyk, Hunter Mahan, and Webb Simpson At the Puerto Rico Open Jerry Kelly, Zac Blair, Jeff Maggert, and Rocco Mediate Honestly I picked Maggert and Mediate more for sentimental reasons. Would there be any interest in setting up a soxtalk fantasy golf league on the Golf Channel? No cash, all bragging rights.

We have a thread that has been somewhat dedicated to our games, to keep some focus, I thought I'd start a tour thread and see where it goes.

Who's on Second?
I'm always happy when the choices are not between bad and really bad. This is between two decent choices. FWIW, I am leaning towards Micah. A not so bold prediction, no one will start more than 100 games at 2nd. I see whomever starts the season giving way at some point for a stretch. With viable options Robin will not need to be patient with the starter coming out of spring training. As spring leads to summer the position will finally settle in. I'd also not dismiss Beckham so easily. Baseball always seems to find it easier to give a guy a third, fourth, fifth chance before someone gets an extended 1st chance.

Looking for a new Kitchen Stove/Range
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Mar 4, 2015 -> 02:24 PM) Electric ovens are better (more consistent temperature), which is why many (all?) of the higher end ranges are dual fuel. On the stove top side, though, you don't have that instant temperature control that you get with gas or induction. I've found that the instant temp control just hasn't been as big of a deal as I once thought. You learn to adapt. If I had my choice I would go gas, but it isn't as bad of a trade off as was mentioned.

RIP Minnie Minoso
My daughter forwarded one of her friends posts about their neighbor Minnie and how he would come over and tell stories. They have pictures of them wearing his championship rings. (Did he receive one from the 2005 team? it seems like it). She asked me "isn't that cool?". No daughter, cool is introducing me to your friends and me having photos of wearing those rings and meeting Minnie in his kitchen. This is the same daughter who once called me up and said, I thought you said the baseball season is over. My boyfriend invited me to a Cardinal's game tomorrow? Why are they playing? Should I go, will it be fun? It's called the World Series. Field box seats. World Series. Yeah, it would be fun SMH

Looking for a new Kitchen Stove/Range
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Mar 4, 2015 -> 11:19 AM) It's not high end but we got a fridigaire gallery gas range with four burners and a central griddle burner last year (about $900). We've been happy with it so far. Electric stoves are terrible, a propane camp stove would be an upgrade over that. After cooking 20 years on gas and then switching to electric, I thought that electrics were terrible. Once we put in a better electric, without the coils, and adjustable burners, etc. I've starting to enjoy electric much more. I also have used a propane camp stove for hundreds of meals, propane camp stoves are not even close to a good electric, especially as the propane starts dropping. I especially now prefer baking in an electric compared to the gas.

I have six golf tournaments in 7 school days. So far four of those days have been spent in 40 degrees with mist and rain.

RIP Minnie Minoso
When Presidents make these statements I always hope there is a speech writer that that knows what is happening and he doesn't have to consult wikipedia to offer some respect. I don't expect a President to know everything about everyone and everything nor will his speech writers. This is different. With this statement, I expect the President could have written this himself. It somehow means so much more coming from a legit Sox fan who also happens to be the President.

RIP Minnie Minoso
Damn. He was a great representative of Chicago and the White Sox. In the years when the team had no chance it was guys like Minnie who made baseball special and a reason to go watch the team play. Being a baseball fan is so much more than just watching championship teams. It's watching great people and respecting the traditions. RIP Minnie got to play when it was game not a business. When I was growing up I remember him playing in the 1980s and the newspaper coverage about his career. I remember having his baseball card and looking at the stats. He was lucky in some ways, unlucky he couldn't have hit free agency and made some real money.

The Beheading
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 26, 2015 -> 06:31 AM) Daesh kidnaps ~100 local Sunni Tribesmen in the area around Tikrit, seemingly to keep them from allying with the army during any spring offensives. Why won't Obama say that these guys are clearly targeting all Sunni muslims? Their victims are overwhelmingly muslims. The president should be ashamed for not acknowledging that constantly. A wee bit of green in there. I'll stay consistent with my comment that every situation is different and each should be analysed for the best response. No one size fits none approach.

mlb network top 100 players right now.
It probably isn't a super accurate way to think of these shows, but on average each team should have 3 players in the top 100. If we place four, which seems a long shot, we're above average.
