QUOTE (Y2HH @ Feb 13, 2015 -> 07:39 AM) That's some serious reaching. In the US we use capital punishment, on a limited basis, in a select number of states for crimes such as raping children and eating them. In some of these countries you're comparing us too, they do it because a female showed her ankles in public, or some other such nonsense. No, it's NOT the f***ing same. No it is not the same. You have placed the US at the top of the moral capital punishment pyramid. Perhaps the US is too lenient on criminals and don't execute enough. Your assumption is the US is the moral perfection on the planet and that anything that differs from ours is wrong. There are countries, a lot of them, that have stopped capital punishment. Where do they fall on your list? Can those countries say that all of the countries that kill criminals are wrong?
  2. QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Feb 13, 2015 -> 09:26 AM) That said- does it even matter whether or not this was a hate crime? It was a triple homicide. I'm of the opinion that every killing is a hate crime. Who really knows with 100% certainty someone's inner thinking? I don't really care why, just prove they did it and lock them up.
  3. Part of the acceptance among fans is someone who has made a career of watching baseball players over 40 years is dismissed as not knowing anything and a 21 year old kid with a spreadsheet can manage any team at any time (just ask them). Just plug in the key factors and use the decision that pops up. Both sides could learn a lot from each other. The fact that it seems you have to chose sides is the craziest part of that.
  4. QUOTE (SleepyWhiteSox @ Feb 12, 2015 -> 08:15 PM) They didn't circumvent them. The adults did. Yet the adults are a vital part of the "team".

  6. Seems strange today. Will the next post be out of order?
  7. Great advice, and I have no f***ing clue what we're talking about.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Feb 10, 2015 -> 04:00 PM) The definition of capital punishment includes the use of "legal process." I think you'd be severely stretching that definition to include "a decision made by a band of terrorists." "The" definition? Who gets to define the word? Legal processes vary around the world. Is the only correct process the one the US uses? Capital punishment is suppose to be a deterrent. The basic idea is if people fear the punishment they will not do the crime. That fear is also called terror. It isn't that much of a threat to call any group that imposes a death penalty as a terror group. We look at the people that are executed in the US and believe we are doing right and it is justified. But when other societies do that for different reasons, they are wrong.
  9. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Feb 12, 2015 -> 09:53 AM) And he liked that noted hate group, the SPLC. Along with a host of liberal websites and personalities. Makes his love of guns seem out of place. Hi Alpha. Sorry if I seem out of place
  10. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Feb 12, 2015 -> 10:21 AM) My view is this...the players accomplishments and what they did on the field happened and the players should feel proud about what they did. They weren't aware of the rules, etc, and the view to me is they played their guts out and earned what they did. However, the rules are the rules and everyone needs to play by the rules. The parents need to step up, take blame and responsibility, and show the kids how adults handle things, but nobody should be blaming these kids or taking anything away from their actual performances on the field. The wins were forfeited but in their eyes they know what they did and should feel proud of what they did on the field, imo, but should also learn a valuable lesson as to why you shouldn't cut corners and how you should handle yourself if you do. Instead it seem like too many are blaming everyone else instead of the parents and the league which was responsible for this mess and throwing out all kinds of excuses, etc, which makes the kids actually feel like they were robbed of something, which they weren't. Agreed. No one is talking about the kids who were really robbed. The kids that would have played on that team who were not judged by the adults who knew them as good enough. They should have had the experience of playing in the tournament.

  12. Great idea. Believe it or not I am still trying to nail down a birth town. The only references are comments he has made about being between two towns. Thanks for the tips.

$5000 credit if you teach in a Title 1 area for 5 years. $10,000 if it is STEM related. There are a couple simple methods for paying off your debt. Pay the smallest bill off first then roll that money into your payment for the next lowest and keep snowballing. Start with the highest interest and work your way down. Either way you go, keep track monthly of your balances. Seeing results is a great motivator.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Feb 10, 2015 -> 02:19 PM) No, see that's the difference. As I said before, at least SA has a "law" and SOME kind of justice system in place. Yes, it might be weak, it might be ludicrous, but it's SOMETHING. Presumably you could, in most cases, not do what is illegal and you'd be fine. Just because Balta can point to a few select cases doesn't' mean it's some epidemic where SA is systematically killing its people based on witchcraft allegations. ISIS is doing that. Grabbing random foreigners, kidnapping them, holding them for ransom and then killing them when they don't get their money (and let's not forget about the mass executions in public). I seriously cannot believe that you guys think the two situations are even remotely similar. Not even remotely similar? They are all capital punishment. They are both holding someone against their will. People are being killed. Other people believe those people should not have been killed. Other people believe they should be killed. There is a justice system in place. It is fast and efficient. That all seems similar. Balta is on his own for the oil stuff.

QUOTE (LDF @ Feb 10, 2015 -> 01:16 PM) oh i don't know, i like the idea of a slow drip, lethal injection with a little acid mix, not enuf to kill, but enuf to hurt. and while that is being applied, start breaking every digit on the hand and feet. ~~~ edit, and since we are talking about ISIS, how bout a little blood infusion with some pig's blood held down with pigs leather. ~~~ edit 2, and since he is strapped to the table, how bout getting some boars testicles and shove it up their arse and sew the arse cheek shut. like this they are really getting screwed, figuratively and literally. good bye to seeing alah. Which again shows how close we are to having the same beliefs as ISIS and the rest.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Feb 10, 2015 -> 09:44 AM) When SA kidnaps someone and beheads/lights them on fire and posts it on the internet, please let me know. Until then, they are not the same. It's not the same. I agree. But what is the same is arguably the most important part. Someone is held against their will, judged as being a threat to that society, and killed.
  20. It has been an up and down down season. We're middle of the pack but with a decent group of underclassmen I could ride this for a few seasons.
  21. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 9, 2015 -> 09:34 AM) I remember when some were predicting 50 homer seasons for Josh Fields. He was 16 short of that. For his career. Well played Dick

The take away I get from Balta's posts are we tolerate the exact same behavior from our "friends" that we condemn our enemies for. We do have some level of hypocrisy on this level. I do believe we would have a greater moral platform if we didn't use capital punishment as a deterrent to acts we find deserving. We execute people people as well but we do it humanely (maybe) and for better reasons.
  23. Great day to day. My team finished second in a decent tournament. Best finish in 10 years.
  24. Zenith of this thread may have just happened.
  25. Texsox replied to greg775's topic in The Filibuster
Capital punishment is capital punishment. Each group has its own laws and ways of carrying out the sentence. Balta, the SA argument should would also apply to SA, (San Antonio) TX. We execute a fair number of people each year for crimes that we find serious.
