QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Mar 14, 2015 -> 11:41 AM) Yeah, no complaints when they did it to Bush, etc. Time released a statement showing where that effect happened to over 20 different people. http://news.yahoo.com/time-magazine-respon...-162415175.html This list includes former U.S. presidents Bill Clinton and George W. Bush, several popes, actor John Travolta, former U.K. Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher and “Star Wars” villain Darth Vader. Actually I remember very well outrage at Bush's picture as well. Back then it was further proof about the media bias against conservatives.
  2. When you attend a small Div 1 school getting close to an automatic bid gets exciting. Today at 3 on the women's side, my Alma Mater, UTPA is playing New Mexico State with an automatic bid on the line. I wasn't expecting that in my lifetime. If I wasn't familiar with the teams playing a #3 seed playing the #1 would mean anyone could win. With this I feel like it's David versus Goliath and the biggest challenge ever lol
  3. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Mar 14, 2015 -> 08:23 AM) Yup, we need to focus on the bigger problems like rap music and video games. Those are the things that are really bringing society down. Definitely not dumb, hate-filled people, it's Call of Duty & Jay-Z that should be blamed here. I agree, dumb hate filled people are the problem. When they sing about dumb, hate filled things, or celebrate dumb, hate filled things, it's a problem. That was my point. These guys were singing a dumb hate filled song. There are other dumb hate filled songs out there. Listen to a few narco-corridos for example. Which is worse? Singing about murdering people or playing a game and murdering people? The people in the song are representations of real people, so to are the images on the screen. But if you don't believe that song lyrics are a problem, why worry about their song? No matter how they sang their song, put a rap beat behind it or a metal sound, it is bad. Now are those really the only song lyrics that are wrong in our society? People are disrespected all the time in our culture. We celebrate disrespecting people in our music, our movies, and our literature.

So TIME creates a cover that will get people to notice their magazine. Will this help or hurt Hillary?
  5. I was happy to see the punishment was swift. I do have some empathy for what Rock hinted at earlier. The innocent guys who were not involved that were thrown out of their house and are labeled as racist for belonging to that fraternity. Maybe it is deserved, but I never have supported a blanket condemnation of everyone and punishing innocent people. Expel all the people you catch singing, investigate and nail every one of the morons you can, but the innocent people shouldn't be punished. People should be judged by their actions. I also wish we could eliminate n***** from our vocabularies. I especially dislike the current culture that n***er is bad but somehow n***a is ok for some people to say. Many of us older people still hear that as a ugly and violent word of hatred, no matter how you try and hide it. We also have a culture where we cheerfully accept violence when we are watching tv and movies, singing songs, or playing video games. Singing about murdering people by hanging = bad. Cheering as you murder people by shooting in a game = acceptable. There are way more than a dozen people singing narco-corridos which depict the same kinds of acts, and they are tolerated and even celebrated. Gansta rap basically falls into the same line as narco corridos. Violence against people. But if there is big money to be earned or entertainment value for the masses it is accepted. Instead we stop at rooting out a small group of people in Oklahoma and think we've actually done something important to stop this. The problem is bigger and needs to be addressed.
  6. My team shot 84-88-88-94 tossing out the 97. Middle of the pack on a rough day. We'll never catch the top teams that have line ups of 5 guys that all break 80, but we're respectable.
  7. Golf tournament today Two hour frost / freeze delay? Check Thermal underwear? Check Insulting layer? Check Gortex Shell and storm pants? Check Heavy socks? Check Gloves? Check Beanie? Check Cover and heater for golf cart? Noooooooooooooo! I almost, almost, wish I was heading to my classroom.
  8. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Mar 5, 2015 -> 10:52 PM) I guess we know who is the official White Sox whipping boy for the year. Seriously all this Beckham hate for a utility dude who didn't become what we all wanted him to be is a bit overboard. He's just another failed prospect in a long line of failed prospects. He'll either find his niche or be out of baseball soon enough. If he had tried and failed in another organization it would be so much different. But we all have memories or the rise and fall. It's hard to dismiss that. But yeah, treating him as anything more than a utility player and role model is probably too much.
  9. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Mar 5, 2015 -> 04:38 PM) what's the ID #? 17032
  10. What's the story on her name? Is it a family name?
  11. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Mar 5, 2015 -> 12:05 PM) It depends on what you're cooking and how important temp control is. The temp control is very solid on the new electrics. Where gas has it beat is when you need to raise or lower the temp in a hurry. The old coils were not very good at that. The newer technology is better, but still not the same as gas. But for consistent, one temp cooking over time, electric has been fine.
  12. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 5, 2015 -> 02:32 PM) Congratulations! Agree on pictures, also to add, you can never spend too much time holding/snuggling that baby. I always loved the middle of the night feedings. The house was quiet, just my baby and me, rocking and feeding. Plus, you are the greatest husband for getting up and letting your wife sleep. Congratulations dad.
  13. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Mar 5, 2015 -> 11:38 AM) I've never played fantasy golf but I'd be up for trying. Go to http://fantasy.golfchannel.com/ sign up for a free account and look for the league soxtalk password is 2005champs (yeah I know original) The basic idea is each week you will be presented with four groupings of players. You pick one player in each group that you believe will do the best at that weeks tournament. Points are awarded based on the prize money that player has earned.
  14. Pro tournaments are a lot of fun. Fans kind of settle into a couple routines. Pick a spot and stay. You get to see everyone, see how each do on a certain hole, and if the location is great you will have food, drink, and bathrooms close by. Par 3s are popular for that. Next is the pick a player or group and follow them for 18 holes. Watching how they approach the game, etc. is a great learning experience. When I volunteer at tournaments I always ask to be a scorer's assistant (standard bearer) Walking 18 inside the ropes with the players is a lot of fun. A buddy and I use to walk hole #1 with a group, wait and follow the next group on #2, etc.
  15. At Doral my Golf Channel fantasy picks are Rory McIlroy, Jim Furyk, Hunter Mahan, and Webb Simpson At the Puerto Rico Open Jerry Kelly, Zac Blair, Jeff Maggert, and Rocco Mediate Honestly I picked Maggert and Mediate more for sentimental reasons. Would there be any interest in setting up a soxtalk fantasy golf league on the Golf Channel? No cash, all bragging rights.
  16. We have a thread that has been somewhat dedicated to our games, to keep some focus, I thought I'd start a tour thread and see where it goes.
  17. I'm always happy when the choices are not between bad and really bad. This is between two decent choices. FWIW, I am leaning towards Micah. A not so bold prediction, no one will start more than 100 games at 2nd. I see whomever starts the season giving way at some point for a stretch. With viable options Robin will not need to be patient with the starter coming out of spring training. As spring leads to summer the position will finally settle in. I'd also not dismiss Beckham so easily. Baseball always seems to find it easier to give a guy a third, fourth, fifth chance before someone gets an extended 1st chance.
  18. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Mar 4, 2015 -> 02:24 PM) Electric ovens are better (more consistent temperature), which is why many (all?) of the higher end ranges are dual fuel. On the stove top side, though, you don't have that instant temperature control that you get with gas or induction. I've found that the instant temp control just hasn't been as big of a deal as I once thought. You learn to adapt. If I had my choice I would go gas, but it isn't as bad of a trade off as was mentioned.
  19. My daughter forwarded one of her friends posts about their neighbor Minnie and how he would come over and tell stories. They have pictures of them wearing his championship rings. (Did he receive one from the 2005 team? it seems like it). She asked me "isn't that cool?". No daughter, cool is introducing me to your friends and me having photos of wearing those rings and meeting Minnie in his kitchen. This is the same daughter who once called me up and said, I thought you said the baseball season is over. My boyfriend invited me to a Cardinal's game tomorrow? Why are they playing? Should I go, will it be fun? It's called the World Series. Field box seats. World Series. Yeah, it would be fun SMH
  20. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Mar 4, 2015 -> 11:19 AM) It's not high end but we got a fridigaire gallery gas range with four burners and a central griddle burner last year (about $900). We've been happy with it so far. Electric stoves are terrible, a propane camp stove would be an upgrade over that. After cooking 20 years on gas and then switching to electric, I thought that electrics were terrible. Once we put in a better electric, without the coils, and adjustable burners, etc. I've starting to enjoy electric much more. I also have used a propane camp stove for hundreds of meals, propane camp stoves are not even close to a good electric, especially as the propane starts dropping. I especially now prefer baking in an electric compared to the gas.
  21. I have six golf tournaments in 7 school days. So far four of those days have been spent in 40 degrees with mist and rain.
  22. When Presidents make these statements I always hope there is a speech writer that that knows what is happening and he doesn't have to consult wikipedia to offer some respect. I don't expect a President to know everything about everyone and everything nor will his speech writers. This is different. With this statement, I expect the President could have written this himself. It somehow means so much more coming from a legit Sox fan who also happens to be the President.
  23. Damn. He was a great representative of Chicago and the White Sox. In the years when the team had no chance it was guys like Minnie who made baseball special and a reason to go watch the team play. Being a baseball fan is so much more than just watching championship teams. It's watching great people and respecting the traditions. RIP Minnie got to play when it was game not a business. When I was growing up I remember him playing in the 1980s and the newspaper coverage about his career. I remember having his baseball card and looking at the stats. He was lucky in some ways, unlucky he couldn't have hit free agency and made some real money.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 26, 2015 -> 06:31 AM) Daesh kidnaps ~100 local Sunni Tribesmen in the area around Tikrit, seemingly to keep them from allying with the army during any spring offensives. Why won't Obama say that these guys are clearly targeting all Sunni muslims? Their victims are overwhelmingly muslims. The president should be ashamed for not acknowledging that constantly. A wee bit of green in there. I'll stay consistent with my comment that every situation is different and each should be analysed for the best response. No one size fits none approach.
  25. Thoughts? Ozzie would be so excited.
